A very intriguing book that gradually draws the reader into the 1920's world of bootleg gin and the relationship between two young typists in a NYC police precinct. A taste of the Great Gatsby with murder thrown in on the side. Worth the read.

The characters simply jump off the page. Will definitely look for other books by this author. Couldn't put it down. Very believable; however, still want to believe there is more goodness in human kind than these characters depict.

I enjoyed the story of two women, from very different backgrounds and with differing personalities, who work and play together during prohibition. The ending, however, was confusing and thrown together.

This book was recommended to me from a fellow booklover with similar reading interests. I was completely taken in by this book! Not quite my favorite, but enjoyable read and I have recommended it to other book lovers.

I enjoyed the timeline of the story. Rose narrates the story with edible details that make you want more. What a life and by contrast her own. I got a thrill when they would enter the speakeasy. It's hard to imagine as a woman in 2014 that it would be so scandalous to partake in the decadence of smoking and drinking behind closed doors. Enjoy the journey!

Did not like this book at all, but suffered through as it was the book selected by our book club host for the month. Poorly written, did not like the setting of 1920's and in a police station; too much continual jumping around with the story line; so much wasted dialogue and continually over describing every single room setting, character clothing (just weird)... The characters were very strange, and unlikable start to finish, a young woman ridiculously infatuated with another woman, and with a policeman in the station, rather creepy. .. couldn't wait to get this book done!

The characters were interesting and is the time period. I could just imagine being there. The ending was a bit confusing to me. What did I miss? Couldn't put it down. I may reread the last 2 chapters to really understand the ending.

Fast pacing novel, with plenty jazz age details, although I found it somewhat disturbing. I felt myself descending into an inevitable abyss of madness and obsession, with no one character with whom I could identify or even just like.

I really enjoyed both the writing style of Suzanne Rindell and the surprises in the plot. The story seemed to slowly unfold and become more odd with every page! Great read and good sense of humor in the style, also.

I enjoyed reading this book, but am surprisingly disappointed in the ending. Not sure what it says about me, wanting it tied up w a bow -- but I'd like a bit more detail: who was who, who became who, or who of the two was the greater influencer... interesting and thought provoking--disappointing in the final pages. ***
