Actually, it is when sociopaths who act on their tendencies fall in love, it probably isn't love. It is probably lust mixed with control issues. I know my heart just went pitter patter. SPOILERS:
The Hero is a very bad man who takes the heroine and her two children as payment on a loan. The H admits to being willing to kill innocent women and children to make a point. He tortures a man in front of the h, which made no sense if he was trying to win her over. He seemed to enjoy it. I am sorry y. The book lost me with the killing of innocents, and the torture was just the gravy on my disgust for the H. I did not see love in the story, but I did see Stockholm Syndrome which is kind of like love....maybe....oh, who am I kidding? So, why give the story two stars? Well, I think the author can write, I just did not like the story. I went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars because of that, but the over feeling I am left with is that it is a dismal story. Unlike other dark romances I have read in the past, the author did not convince me as to why the couple were in love and why there was a HEA in their world.

This had a great beginning. It was very intriguing and gripping. We got a lot of Matt/Lucifer in his business dealings so I didn't get as emotionally invested in him and Lily as a couple. I wish there was more time with the two of them getting to know each other so I could feel more connected to them. But if you love powerful, ruthless criminal who take possession of their women this is for you.

I loved this book.. I enjoyed tha action the most.. it was dark and suspenseful. Loved the connection Lucifer and Lilith had. Really enjoyed the strength and possessiveness Lucifer portrayed .. great book!!

Keeping Lily delivered some great romance moments but at times I did struggle with some of the connection between Lucifer and Lily as it felt really rushed but the sex scenes were enjoyable. Lily has a strong need to feel protected based on her background story so you can overlook her rapid need for Luifer and his magic touch but other times not so much.

Lily’s children are an interesting side story and Lucifer’s interaction with them did soften my perception of him and it made me forgive him for his other brute actions.

My main complaint with this story is that towards the last few chapters I actually stopped and I did a kindle search as I was reading this at 10pm at night and all of a sudden a major story line was thrown in and I was like – Back the freakin truck up – did I miss a chapter? When did that happen? How did they not talk about this? Was it mentioned and I missed it when Lily was out shopping? Then BOOM we are at the Epilogue a few months later – I kind of thought I missed a moment in the relationship!! I actually searched twice as it has done my head in and I feel like I missed a major moment in their emotional and physical relationship which could have helped me connect to them in a more romantic way.

There is also a fair bit of violence and lots of names thrown around with different gangs mentioned which must lead into the next book.

The Disciples series I believe has that something, it is dark and a little bit dirty. I have already bought a copy of Stealing Amy (Disciples #2) which I am looking forward to reading.

This book was absolutely great to read, except it left me wanting more. It’s filled with violence, gore, sex, compassion, and most of all.....love. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys romance in a darker setting.
