We bought this as training material for a nurse in a developing country who could read English as well as her native language. It came highly recommended to me. It looks very comprehensive, but I admit I thumbed through it, then immediately gave it away in the training pack we made.

My 10 year old daughter started her period, and even though we had discussed the topic a little bit ahead of time, I realized that I had one chance to really get it right when I talked to her about it. I ordered this book and a couple others; I read this book first (I wanted to read it on my own before reading it with my daughter to make sure I agreed with everything written - it's a very easy, quick read, I finished it in a day!) The book is fabulous! Very informative, covers all the basics, and is written in a child friendly way that is not scary or intimidating, which was the most important thing to me. The other books I ordered along with this one can't begin to compare. I highly recommend this book and will definitely tell all my mom friends about it when the time comes for them to tackle the subject with their daughters!

"The Period Book" is an excellent resource for young girls. The book has very clear and complete information about menstruation, and how to use pads, tampons, etc. It is written in terms that are simple and has illustrations that help clarify. This book helps lower anxiety by telling young girls what to expect. It is a wonderfully helpful little book to which girls can continue to refer. This book was definitely not what I was looking for... I feel like it was more about sex and reproduction than about the facts I wanted her to learn about her period. I didn't even give this to her to read... I didn't feel like it was preteen appropriate like the description had said...

This book is GREAT for preteen girls (11-12 years) to teach them about how their bodies are changing and what's natural, what's not. I read this book when I was 12 (got it as a birthday gift from my mom) and it helped me build my self-esteem, body image, and boundaries. There is a new section at the end for body image to better prepare girls for the adult world and the pressures they may face from others for how they look.

I would recommend this book for any mother that wants her daughter to be completely informed. I would not recommend giving this book to a girl without first reading it. I crossed out a paragraph that i felt just wasn't necessary information. My daughter was grateful i had policed it and she thanked me for the book and a small makeup bag of things she would need like a few different sizes of maxi pads, perfume, leak proof panties, senceables disposal bags, wet wipes, things like that. She read half the book the first evening. There is more than a little talk about sex included in this book - I am not against this for such young girls because there are so many girls that are sexually abused and its difficult to talk about whats happening to them when they don't know anything about it in the first place. Education is a far better place to be than sorry and ignorant.

Very useful helping to explain what a young lady goes threw when her body is maturing. I brought this for my daughter and she was only 5 at the time, I figure the earlier the better. Plus she was asking questions so soon for her age, I didn't want to brush her off and let her peers give her the wrong information. So parents get this book and read along with your daughters!

My daughter entered puberty at 9, and I bought this book for her at 10. We looked through it together, and the pictures and small sections (easy to read, short) prompted many questions from her. Because the book has short chapters and small, easily identified sections within chapters, a young girl -- who may not have the attention span of an older girl -- can skip around, just view the pictures and read shorter sections to get just enough information to satisfy. I had on hand a few different mini and maxi pads, which she then wanted to 'try on,' giving the information and pictures in the book a more realistic dimmension.

GREAT book for any young girl hitting the double digits. I would read it first as there was some things that I had no clue happened or when. There are some sketches pictures of girls and boys, but I guess it's all to teach the difference.

The book is great for young adolescent females who are coming into their own and are curious about their body. The animations in the books are fun and informative and each chapter is very detailed. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a daughter age 10 and up

This seems like a great, informative book, especially good for the girl who doesn't want to discuss ANY of it with you, even though you've offered and made yourself available! :P
I read it all, cover to cover, before bestowing it on a 12-year-old who would rather eat glass than discuss anything personal with anybody, and she was immediately engrossed!

My daughter was thrilled at the new level of confidence she gained from reading these books. I recommended them to other mothers of her friends and they too purchased the books. These books gave my daughter a way to supplement our talks with answers maybe she was too embarrassed to ask me. Parents should talk to their children about such matters but giving them additional "fun" material such as these books offers additional benefits.

This was purchased to prepare a mother, who raved about it. She said it greatly reduced her anxiety about anticipated discussions with her daughter. They read it together and satisfactorily reports her daughter feels agency referring to it.

Bought this for my 10 year old daughter before she started her cycle to kind of give her more detailed information. I'm one of those parents who reads books before I give them to my kids to make sure they are appropriate. This book appeared to be really good until it gets to tell about body parts of girls AND boys, with naked and very graphic pictures of each. I thought the pictures in the book was a bit much for very young girls, such as my daughter. I believe they could have left the male pictures out and still conveyed the message it needed to. So I decided to wait to give it to her until I figure out how to either rip the pages out or cover them up. All of the other info is pretty well written.

I bought this book for my 9 year old grandaughter. It was way more information than was needed for a 9 year old. I had conformation from her mom (my daughter) that the book was not age appropriate. So it has been placed in the top of moms closet awaiting a couple of years to get back down and see if she is ready for all that information. It was a big disappointment to my grand daughter as she was anticipating reading "The Period Book". We explained, and she understood...but still...
