An overall enjoyable book that presents a selective view of American history. As all authors he picks and chooses his source material and provides a meaningful exercise in detecting liberal bias however subtle. A lood read but caveat emptor if you are looking for an unbiased work.

This book is absolutely spectacular in showing the truth about a lot of historical myths that too many people take at face value. Davis doesn't seem to write from any particular political viewpoint, in my perspective, but lets the facts speak out. I suppose this is why some people think he has some sort of political agenda - but if the truth is considered "liberal" or "conservative", then perhaps the bias of the reader is showing!

Great book, we kind of read it on american history on high school, and i always liked it, but we just read a couple of chapters on it, never the whole book, but since this was the latest version, i decided it to get it, is a great book to read and you learn things and the chapters are well done.

Dont know much about History does pretty much what it purports to do; fill in certain blanks in US history in a concise, almost too concise, manner. It is quite objective and makes no attempt to re-write history to promote a particular political leaning - until the final chapters. Then it is fairly clear that Dr. Davis leans a bit away from the status quo. This poses no real problem, as most of the Viet Nam generation are quite negative as to how that was handled. Now, the next edition of this book, which will of necessity deal with Irak, will be a very interesting read.

A very good book for the history buffs out there. Well written and easy to understand. If you are willing to listen to things that are not "main stream" knowledge and can picture yourself in some the stories you will enjoy this book greatly. A must read for the history buff but not an easy read for the casual reader. The book arrived before its due date and in excellent condition.

Look, is this an in-depth dissertation for the phd historian? No. Is it a great, entertaining, knowledgeable read for those to want to brush up on their history because they didn't pay attention in school, or just have a renewed interested in the topic? Yes.

It's broken up into sections/questions, so it's a great read in terms of getting bits at a time - or if you want to dig in for the long haul, you can do that as well.

I'm a 30 year-old college grad who wished he paid more attention in high school/college, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and now feel smarter than all my friends!

Want to really know what happened with Columbus, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Nixon, Bush, Obama? Want to get the highlights and facts and important base-line knowledge? Check this out! It's worth it.

Excellent condition and so inexpensive. Thanks. I hate it that schools require books that are not available in ALL school libraries, and if they are, they are checked out already. This is the way we go from now on.

History with a twist. Any opportunity to color a conservative in a more negative light is done with extra time and detail in this work. Overall, there are some interesting "facts" presented but this seems to be more of a liberal leaning Opinion Editorial than a accurate historical account of the selected topics in American history. After a few subjects, you can accurately predict which angle he is going to take or which "facts" will be emphasized before he even gets there. He does do it gently, though. I'd love to see this guy go head-to-head with a more unbiased historian. A good example of how subtle bias can be infused into history - and here be presented as historical "fact".
