Bobby Akart’s new book immediately takes hold and never gives you a second to relax. Get ready for a ride -from the rodeo in South Dakota, to the ranchlands of Texas, then the venerable buildings of DC, and over to the terrorists countries across the ocean.

There is a great mix of teachable moments along with action that really never stops. Bobby Akart again has made a family, the Armstrongs, into a part of yours. And so typical of Bobby Akart, the sense of freedom rings throughout.  I keep stopping just to take a breath and then right back to the action.

I absolutely loved this book. So excited for the rest of this incredible series. The suspense is killing me already. Well done Bobby Akart!

Just finished Axis of Evil, The Lone Star Series. Great buildup for Book 2: Beyond Borders. I loved the character interactions, especially the Armstrong family unit. Hard working and staunch believers that God helps those who help themselves (my words). That is who they are in this fictional portrayal of the individual spirit of humanity to survive on their own, being self sufficient as a way of life. Can't wait to read Beyond Borders. A definite recommended read.

Fast-moving, very believable and engaging. Characters are easy to identify with. Should appeal to most people who are globally aware of current events and conservative enough not to take anything for granted when it comes to survival.

Another wild ride from Bobby Akart. He crafts a compelling tale from the get-go. North Koreans, Texas, Rodeos, EMPs all come together in a story that is plausible given today's climate. Bobby has a real talent in being able to tell the tale, all the while dropping preparedness tips and creating complex characters and sub plots. Definitely a must read

Another sleepless night thanks to Bobby Akart and my new favorite family, the Armstrongs. Others have covered the basis of the story so I will just say this: can't decide if this is fact or fiction and praying we, as a country, wake up to the seriousness of the threats to our nation and humanity as a whole. Keep up the good work Bobby...and in the great words of Tom Bodett--I'll leave the lights on for you (I hope)!

Ended up being more of a political thriller than a shtf survival adventure. On the political thriller parts, it was pretty good. Characters I liked, and believable story. The rest of it was family drama that could have been summed up in a chapter or two. Also like a quite a few books of the genre I've digested, much of the survival aspects were entirely too convenient and easy on the characters. Not a bad book, but not quite top shelf I feel.

As always, well written with solid character development. Caught between 3 stars and 5 so settled in the middle. Although I understand "setting the scene" [SPOILER ALRERT] the entire book sets the scene and the "lights go out" literally on the last page so if you're more interested in just the SHTF scenario skip to book two (which I am about to find and purchase!)

Author Bobby Akart, is at it again, and totally delivers another hit. Axis of Evil, is the first book of this series, and what a great start it was. The world is gonna find out you Dont Mess With Texas. Duncan, really stirred up a Hornets Nest , and can't wait to find out if he makes it out of Korea. The Ending was Epic, as Bobbys books usually are. Coop, finally gets his revenge on a Bull, that has never been ridden , and as soon as the buzzer sounds. The lights go out. OMG, what a cliffhanger. Can't wait to dig in to the next book. Once again, absolutely loved every minute of it !!!

Bobby Akart takes us on another wild ride, from 2018 to 1820! As he delves into the North Korean threat, he also looks at the political will, or lack of, to deal with perhaps the most dangerous threat America faces today. Through the eyes of one Texas family who have faced diversity with the loss of one son in war and the fear for another patriotic hero, and the strength of character and faith of the three youngest children, the family with the guiding hand of a great father and mentor have prepared them for a future that is looking dangerous and bleak.

Thanks to the foresight of Texas and her can do and won't die attitude, while the rest of America faces collapse and destruction, Texas holds out as the last fortress of freedom! Bobby has the ability to see what this country faces if the politicians keep up their idiotic path of appeasement and failure to confront the problems from countries such as Iran and North Korea. While Washington continues to hope diplomacy will stop dictators who want to control the world and convert her to their misguided beliefs, Texans have taken steps to protect her infrastructure and her people.

Major Armstrong came from a long line of Texas pioneers who faced hard struggles in an unforgiving and harsh land to prosper and raise generations of tough, hard working Texans who continues in the preparations he has undertaken in stocking, training and preparing his children and ranch hands for a future collapse. What will happen may not be pretty and may not be politically correct in the eyes of our current snow flake society, but may well be the only way to preserve our country in a form we would recognize. Without men like Major Armstrong and his children America could well become a occupied, third world country where our cherished freedoms are gone forever and we will be slaves to foreign regimes and misguided radicals!

THANK GOD FOR TEXAS, IF I CAN'T GO TO HEAVEN JUST LET ME GO TO TEXAS, IT'S AS CLOSE AS I'VE BEEN!!!!!

I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. However, I found this book boring even though the premise was very exciting to me. There was little action and too much emphasis on building the family's history and relationships. Hopefully the second book in this series will be more interesting. I see no reason to purchase this first book in the series.

I was interested in this book because of a previous series but I had to trudge through this first s t book. I love this author so I am surprised that again, this is a very wealthy family with unbelievable assets to use to prepare for disaster and isolate their ranch from interference. ignore the Fox news references as I know conservatives are frantic about the idiots that lie their way through made up "news" so they can flame the fans of intolerance. I will give the next book a try as I want to know about the fate of the kids. Hopefully it will be a little more informative about preps for radiation.

The author's task is multifaceted. Develop characters, settings, background stories, plot, twists, sacrifice. As you see the author is tasked with the whole nine yards to deliver just a book. What delivers a Great book? Mr. Akart has devotion to his work and you will see this in his works. If you follow his fan base you will also see this in his fan's devotion to his writings. You can see in his Facebook followers that Bobby Akart not only responds to his fan base he enjoys the interface.

How is this relevant to producing a great book? Well first this goes back to the devotion and the love of writing. In Axis of Evil I saw an author who shows his talent on political themes. He masters the back room, dark side political rivalry. The weaknesses, the foreign power structures, the interface of special ops with political agendas.

Reader, you will find yourself wishing for that next book intensely! Mr. Akart does not disappoint his readers, the next in this series will be released on a short interval. Already his readers are in the can't wait condition.

Oh yes that includes me. DO not miss this series.

Great author who has really turned out some good books. It's obvious he's done his research as he talks about the different countries and their weapons and eqiupment. Edited well as I found almost zero grammatical errors. Mr. Akart's writing still is smooth and flows well allowing you to really get involved in the story without being hampered by bad grammar or editing mistakes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in a few hours; had to put everything else on the back burner! I was pretty disappointed to learn the rest of the series isn't out, but somehow I'll manage to wait. ;)

Very good book. If you're a fan of this genre, I'd highly encourage you to read it.

I love dystopian fiction, especially when it combines prepped type information. The fact that this book is largely based in my former home state of Texas is a huge bonus. Bobby definitely does his research when writing and this book is no different! I love seeing names and places that I personally know, makes it so much more real for me. This book covers what could happen in the event of an EMP, in this particular case warfare using an EMP. The characters develop well, the story line is riveting, and as always Bobby writes a cliff-hanger like no other! You won’t be sorry you read this book. You’ll be entertained and educated. Can’t wait for the rest of the series as Bobby definitely leaves you wanting more!!!

Bobby Akart does it again! Are you ready for the better than an 8 second thrill ride? I promis that too is included. Wow what a first book of a series. You'll feel the gentle west Texas breeze through the mezuite as you load up for the rodeo. And every twist, hop and turn of the bull ride so resin those gloves real good when you sit down with one of the best reads you've ever treated yourself to. In the mean time get ready to lean forward with...well, I'm gonna let you find out when you read it! Enjoy! It's boots 'n saddles thrill ride in Bowie and Steven Austin's Texas, are you ready to decide which side of the line in the sand you'll stand on?

So glad I discovered Bobby Akart. I have read all his previous series with great enjoyment. This beginning of a new series promises not to disappoint. The characters are again strong and likable, the premise is all too real and smacks of authenticity. This author, in my opinion, seems to expand upon the apocalyptic theme with different slants. While the event may be an EMP or some other familiar catastrophy, the societal effects and settings are fresh. That's probably not a good way to express it but words tend to escape me. Suffice it to say if you are a fan of this genre, you can't go wrong with this author and certainly not this beginning series.

With everything going on in the world today, Mr. Akart once again touches on the heart of what could happen...North Korea, China, Iran are but a few of the countries that could reach us with an EMP or nuclear bomb...Enter Mr. Akart with a story about an EMP......This story is about one family in Texas that are prepared for anything that can and will take place...I always feel that I am right in the mist of what's taking place in the book...Once again , a thrilling first book in a series about Texas and what happens when an EMP strikes the United States..Well written and very strong characters

Kim Jong-Un, backroom Washington deals, assassination teams, this is a work of fiction.... isn't it? This author has a habit of making you think for a split second "did I pick up the book or the newspaper?" with a kick to the gut.

Bobby Akart always comes through with not only a well research topic, but a cast of characters you can't help but fall in love with! And then to have an 8 second ride end like that? Calgary will never be the same.

With Texas as the only electric grid left standing, will they now come under attack? From whom? How will Major and Lucy protect their family from the ever growing list of dangers while our nation falls apart around them?

The worst part? Now I have to wait for the next book!

Bobby Akart is a superb survival fiction writer. His plots and characters are well drawn. As you read, you can't help getting swept up in the story. I like the fact the books of his that I have read have been without explicit sex and low vulgar language. Such a wonderful flow of companionship and emotion comes through in the story that you can't help routing for them.

I have read quite a few non-fiction post apocalyptic books that provide valuable information regarding how to prepare for potential disasters. However, although I have enjoyed them all, none have provoked such thought as this. The level of detail regarding politics and the military were on par. I felt almost as if I was reading a history book. Realistic settings and everyday characters you can't help but adore made this a five star read for me. I am eagerly and not patiently awaiting to next installment. In the mean time, I'll be pondering current world events.....

Get ready for another intense read from Bobby Akart! This hooks you from the start and leaves you begging for the next book in the series. Axis of Evil is a fictional story based on events that could actually happen in todays world.
This series has the promise to be better than Akart's "36 Hours" series.

This is going to be another great series. This starting book brings a lot of current world conditions into play, and how they effect the main family. I enjoyed meeting the characters. The skull-drudgery the shadow government is up to is well presented, and believable depending on your world view. I did try the audio-book this time, and it was well read and allowed me to keep up with the book and get other things done. The voice is easy to listen to. I do recommend this series.

As a big fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, where it concerns an EMP, Solar Flare/CME, and/or nuclear attack, I've managed to read hundreds of series by dozens of authors. This is easily the best, hands down. The author manages to interweave the story from several vantage points: a family, local government, state government, the Federal government, and governments of the various enemies: an Arthur Hailey-like rendition, except even more expanded in scope. Details and facts are well-researched and realistic, the book is proof-read well, I didn't find any discontinuity or "holes" in the plot or storyline, and the characters are well-developed and believable. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I recommend this series to those who are fans of the genre as well as those who are interested but haven't gotten involved. The Kindle prices are very reasonable, and Kindle Unlimited subscribers read for free (the author still gets paid by the store).

There are many things going on in the world today and Bobby Akart brings them to life in his novels. Axis of Evil is another one of Bobby's 5 star reads. There are so many things in it that will make you think. The volatility of the time we live in is scary. Be scared and be prepared.

I've been concerned on this topic since working with nuclear armed missiles in the mid 1980's. Having read Mr. Akart's Boston Brahmin series and enjoyed them very much I now have another series that I WILL read. Thank you in advance, Sir!

BUT right now, it's impossible for this "Independent" reader to ignore the books not so subtle underpinnings-it smacks of fear monguring & will absolutely validate some readers very real and very current, fear based paranoia; while at other times, it simply reads like propaganda. This author is using his abundance of God given talent, to stoke up & encourage peoples fears in such a way that it simply goes unnoticed-fears & beliefs are affirmed subconsciously. For what it's worth, MY opinion is this.....IF in general, you're not afraid of this big, beautiful, ever-changing and growing world we live in, and tend to be aware of yourself & those around you by making an effort to never.....or at least hardly ever…go around assuming that your grip on reality is the firmest, or that you have that coveted, inner & firsthand knowledge of what is right vs what is wrong-and obv's love "end of the world", character driven fiction-than this well written series could very well be for you! On the other hand....IF you really do use the term "Deep State" in your everyday life, and in your heart of hearts you simply fear what you don't completely understand & are truly unsettled by certain "demographical"changes....than perhaps you shouldn't hop on this particular "train"-in other words....maybe read a different book from a very different genre for relaxation and entertainment;)

It is great to see a talented, emerging author like Bobby Akart use his craft to address a serious subject like EMP readiness. This is a subject near and dear to my heart. Another famous author contributed a quote to an information paper that I authored in an attempt to resurrect the EMP commission recommended actions via a prominent Congressman's Military Advisory Group.
Keep fighting the good fight, Bobby!

I really enjoy his writing style. His books are well researched and very well written. I always know when I pick up one of his books that it will be very hard to put down. In the past I've spent the weekend reading his other series. I have recommended his books to family and friends and this series will be next on my list. Thank you for sharing your talent.

The story about Duncan is just what I expect from POLITICIANS, COVER YOUR OWN ASS!!!!!!!
This book is definitely good reading for ALL AGES!

Another Akart work that grabs you up and leaves you with sleepless nights. Finished in less than 24 hours, couldn’t turn off my iPad. What I like most is the incorporation of the knowledge and data from his nonfiction titles smoothly into the text. What I dislike is the whole month wait for the next volume! I live in Georgia and plan a trip to Black Creek for a Daniel Defence Christmas present...OK, maybe Easter!

Just finished the Fifth Column, book 5 of the Lone Star series and have one regret. I read it too fast! Been a while since I have read a series of books where I wanted to read fast to keep up with all the action, at the same time hating that each book ends and I have to wait nearly a whole month before I can read the next part! Loved the Boston Brahmin series and some of Bobby Akart's other series but I do think the Lone Star series is the best yet! I love action stories and this has that and more. Plus it involves a close knit family rather than political entities, which it has those too but the family part is the draw for me first. Can't wait for book 6 later this month but going to be sad when the series ends. Love this series and I am not even from Texas!

Others have commented on the slowness of the book, to me it was not slow at all. In this genre, you need a setup/background info for later books, it is a series! Most readers understand that and accept it. I did, this book is well written and well thought out. I prefer accuracy in descriptions and not an authors assumption of the setting. Bobby Akhart did his research for this book. I’ve been to the “set”, if you will and he is spot on. I found the book entertaining and hard to put down.
