Mary Lue Finney, a middle school student is assigned to do a journal over the summer. What starts out to Mary Lue as a boreing homework assignment turns out to be the story of her sorrowful, frustrating, romantic, mysterious, and outragious summer vacation. I rated it 8 only because I enjoyed Sharon Creech's, "Chasing Red Bird", and my favorite, "Walk Two Moons"books more, but this novel is still a masterpiece.

Absolutley Normal Chaos is definatley the best book ever. It is REALLY funny, and the Main Character, Mary Lou gets into trouble just like normal teenagers
Absolutley Normal Chaos tells the story of a girl named Mary Lou Finney. She has a large family, and each of them get into their own twists and mess ups. In her journal, she tells of how her cousin Carl Ray adds to her soap opera summer. It is really really funny and really really good. I reccomend it to anyone!

Absolutely normal chaos is probably one of my all-time favourite books. It's about a regular girl, Mary Lou Finney, 13, who lives in a house with her 3 brothers and her sister. Needless to say, there is never a moment of peace, and her summer seems to be becoming as boring as ever. Yet, her luck seems to turn, and we are told about her wonderfully exciting summer in a journal that she is told to write for school. She has no idea how to do it, but she ends up writing about her weird cousin, Carl Ray, who knows the Odyssey inside out, Her "best friend" Beth Ann, and her permanently pink Alex Cheveey. So what starts out as a boring summer turns into a thrilling time!
Adventure, fun, and a bit of romance, this book is one that you will definitely not be able to drop! I recommend this to everyone, even those who don't like reading!

Recently, I completed reading Absolutely Normal Chaos. The book was interesting and showed how comlex life can really be. I would reccommend this book because it teaches how life is when you are a teenager. It showed the reality of life and was an excellent book.
In the beginning Mary Lou Finney is supposed to write in a journal for her new English teacher, Mr. Birkway. Mary Lou's cousin, Carl Ray comes to live with the Finney's so he can find a job. Beth Ann, Mary Lou's best friend, starts going out with Derik the devine. Beth Ann starts ignoring Mary Lou. Then Mary Lou gets a boyfriend and knows why Beth Ann ignored her. Carl Ray gets money from an anonymous person. This ends being Carl Ray's real dad, who had died. I liked this book because it taught me an important lesson, not to judge people before you really know them.

This book is wonderful. Sharon Creech never ceases to amaze me in how she writes. She always finds a way to touch you in whatever way it is, and this book is a wonderful example of it. Mary Lou Finney, the thoughtful, clever, and just plain normal in all aspects main character, is going through her teen years. Add expierences to that such as death, a best friend crisis and a crush...you get this touching and well thought-out book.

The story takes place during the Second World War, from 1938 through 1945. In Winterswijk, close to the Germany border. Annie and her dad listen to the radio a lot to hear about all of the news that's going on. Annie's mom and dad argue a lot. Annie is eight years old in the beginning. Rachel, Annie, and Sini are all sisters. They are also all Jewish. After the war started Annie and Sini go live with the Oostervelds, and they stay in their upstairs room for two years. While they were there their mother died. The Oostervelds are Opoe, Johan, and Dientje. I liked this book because it explained how the war was back then, and a lot of details.

Mary Lou Finney and her best friend Beth Ann plan to spend the whole summer together-but plans change. Her cousin comes to her house from out of town. Mary Lou's family assume that hes looking for a job but there's something he's not telling them. Ride along with Mary Lou Finney and her CRAZY adventures to find out the truth about Carl Ray. If you've ever read any of her other books I would say Absolutely Normal Chaos is the BEST! I gave it five stars because it was an exciting, mysterious, great book and I recommend it to everyone!

Mary Lou Finney is assigned by her English teacher to keep a journal during her summer vacation. She thinks that her journal is going to be boring, but before she knows it her life turns into... Absolutely Normal Chaos. The author of Absolutely Normal Chaos is Sharon Creech. This book takes place in Easton, Ohio. Mary Lou's summer starts off boring, but gets interesting when her cousin Carl Ray comes. Carl Ray is a 17-year-old from West Virginia. He came to Ohio to get a job, but later in the book you find out that he has some secrets that hes keeping from the Finney's. Mary Lou's best friend, Beth Ann, becomes boy crazy and has no time for her anymore, but Mary Lou develops her own boy problems. This book shows how one teenage girl grew up in just one summer. This book was very good.

Absolutley Normal Chaos was a great book. It was about a 13 year old girl who struggles with boys, family, friends, death, and herself. The reason I liked this book so much was because I can relate to how the character feels and what she goes through. I think any girl who reads this book will feel the same. All girls of all ages should read this book

I have recently finished reading the book, Absolutely Normal Chaos, written by Sharon Creech. While reading this book, it gave me a sense of what lay ahead in my life, the life of an adolescent girl. It also provided a strong message to me that you should always "be yourself." However, Sharon Creech has written better.
It all began with a young girl named Mary Lou, fresh from seventh grade with an assignment to keep a journal over the summer. First, her cousin, Carl Ray, comes to stay with her family for a while. Then, her "best friend" Beth Ann gets a boyfriend. Next, Mary Lou gets a boyfriend. After that, she goes to Carl Ray's house for a week. Thier neighbor, Mr. Furtz, dies. Carl Ray gets sick. Then he gets better. And on and on and on.
I must admit that even though it's theme was not week, the rest of the story dragged on in my eyes. It wasn't a book where anyone in our class had the urge to read on. Simply said, it wasn't the best novel in the world.

Absolutely Normal Chaos, By Sharon Creech is a story of a family of 7, and their not so normal summer in South Euclid, Ohio. The main character, and narrorator of the story thinks she is going to have an easy summer, that is until she receives an assignment at the end of the year to keep a journal about all of her summer experiences. Now, most students Mary Lou's age would have jotted down a few pages here and there about vacations and what have you, but not Mary Lou. See, Mary Lou had a very eventful summer. In one summer she learns about death, relationships, getting along, and how to deal with her 3 brothers, 1 sister, best friend Beth, her messy cousin Carl Joe, and her parents without going absolutely haywire.

Sharon Creech does an exquisite job at portraying the life of an adolescent girl, who's stuck somewhere between childhood and adulthood. Creech gracefully shares her wisdom, by teaching 13 and 14 year olds how to deal with some of life's less pleasant issues, and on the other hand, life's more pleasant issues. This journal style novel is definitely a page turner, and will have you wondering what is going to happen next in the absolutely normal chaotic world of Mary Lou Finney.

I've read Absolutely Normal Chaos over four times because I love the main character, Mary Lou Finney, so much. Mary Lou's wit is sharp and her outlook is amusing and honest. Mary Lou is dismayed when she has to keep a journal for a school project. She had no idea that at the end of the summer, the pages would be filled with details of the most exciting summer of her life! From her weirdo cousin, Carl Ray, to her first romance, Mary Lou (or should I say, Sharon Creech) is a skilled writer that draws you in. At the end of this book, I felt like Mary Lou was real, and I cared about her. You will love this book! I promise! Sharon Creech has yet to dissapoint her avid readers.

The writing in this book was all together refreshing (sounding just like thirteen-year-old girl) and the characters are interesting--both strange and exciting at the same time. But...there is something wanting, like the author accidently forgot to put something in. I don't know...maybe Creech's award-winning book "Walk Two Moons" put my expectations high. So maybe I should have read this one first, maybe that would let me see the full charm and fun of this book. Instead, I was just constantly comparing it to "Walk Two Moons".

Absolutely normal chaos is one of my favorite books! It has so many fun characters I can really relate to. Although it gets a bit dull when all Mary Lou talks about is Alex Cheevy. Don't get me wrong! It's fun to read about. I reccomend this book to girls ages 11-13.

Sharon Creech is one of my many favorite authors, and I think this book is no exception. Very well-written and a completely realistic description of how a 13 year old's diary would look like. Many new surprises arise, which makes this also a sort of suspenceful novel. This is definitely for preteens and teenagers.

This book is about Mary Lou Finney, her best friend Beth Ann Bartels, her cousin Carl Ray, her Aunt Radene and Uncle Carl Joe, Alex Cheevey and the Furtzs'.
This book is in journal format. It has romance, tragedy, and everything else that a book should have.
Mary Lou is writing this for her new english teacher, and this takes place during the summer. If I could re-rate this book, i would re-rate it 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars.
I found out about this book by finding it in my teacher's bookcase. I reccomend it to anyone who likes really good books.

Mary Lou Finney is assigned by her English teacher to record her summer in a journal. Then her dad makes an announcement that her cousin Carl Ray will be coming to visitor find a job, but is really coming to find his real father, Mr. Furtz. Mr.Furtz ends up to be Mary-Lou's next-door neighbor, and while Carl Ray is visiting Mr. Furtz has a heart attack and dies. Carl Ray was very shy and quiet so Mary-Lou didn't like him. When she's forced to drive back to Carl Ray to West Virginia she recognizes that he was homesick and she was acting just like him. What Mary-Lou thought would be a boring summer ended up being a blast.

This book of exciting edventures with Mary Lou Finney was a blast to read. When I read this book, I felt like I was the one writing the summer journal. At first, I didn't think it was going to be interesting, but I loved it. After reading this book, I enjoyed reading.

If you want a book full of excitement and fascinating events then I strongly suggest that you put this book down right away and go get another book. But of course if you want a predictable, boring, and obvious book then go read on. A girl name Mary Lou (13) must write in a journal for the summer for a Language Arts project. Mary Lou is a boy crazy, writes way too much for this assignment, and has according to her a dull family. Her cousin Carl Ray (17) has to come for the summer. His lazy, irritating personality just lies around the house for a while claming to be "looking" for a job. Eventually he gets one at the hardware stare; mysteriously the owner dies a day later. Mr. Furtz, the dead hardware store owner, is also Mary Lou's neighbor. Some how Carl ray got five thousand dollars from an anonymous person. This part of the book was so predictable that a half drunken monkey would have been able to figure it out. This book every single event had absolutely no meaning to it. But, of course if you want to read about a girl who goes on and on about the same thing over and over again, and also who has no life so she just writes about other people then I strongly suggest that you read it.

This is a great book! It has romance, comedy, family, almost everything! Sharon Creech has outdone herself again. The main character's diary is the book and it captures hilariously how being a teen is! Great read!

Absolutely Normal Chaos is about a girl named Mary Lou Finley. The book is her journal over her summer. Lots of things happen like somebody dies, her cousin comes, she meets a boy. The cousin's name is Carl Ray. A lot happens to him--he came to get a job because where he lives is small. But later Mary Lou finds out why he really came. Mary Lou also meets a boy that keeps telling lies to see her. Mary Lou didn't even know he liked him. Things happen!
This book was a pretty good book. I like this book because it was about a girl our age.

I enjoyed this book. Mary Lou has her first crush and kiss. Her friend is boy-crazy. Her cousin comes to visit. A neighbor dies. Lots of stuff. And, in the end, it is all tied together neatly. With, even, a perhaps not necessary serious accident.

Here is my big question and surprise. I kept checking and checking to see when it was written. Published 1990. But it reads like a Beverly Cleary's Ramona time period. Just not modern at all.

A fine read, though.

This story takes place through one summer. It is about a fourteen year old girl who tries to cope with her large, loud, quirky family. I love the characters, they are wonderfully imagined and yet people that everyone can relate to.
This story is about Mary Lou's process of dealing with her first boyfriend, her best friend and her first journal.
I reccomend this story to 11 to 14 year olds.

I chose three stars because I thought that while it wasn't the best book I've ever read, I definitely liked it.

I liked the storyline; I didn't like how it spoils the Odysseus or whatever.

I would recommend it to girls ages 10-15.

Sharon Creech is an excellant writer. Although she has many books out, I think this was her best book. It shows what a normal kid's life is like and how hard it is to be a kid. Summer to a kid is just like a vacation and Sharon Creech really captured that. I love her books and hope you will like them too.

The book "Absolutely Normal Chaos" is a great book. This book has a mixture of Genres. This book is interesting and a book you can't put down. The book makes me crack up. For example, Carl ray comes to live at the Finney's house. So, Mary Lou has to do his chores for him. She has to do his bed and to do house-service. It also is about Mary-Lou and her family having a crazy summer. This book is a funny book that you could read at least 5 times. I would recommend this book to people who like to read about peoples live and how a family can get closer. If you like diary's you will love this one. I would rate this book a five.

The narrator of the book is too much the stereotypical girl. I would suggest this book to girls 9 and under but not any older. She tried to make the book funny but it didn't work. I don't suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a worthwhile book with good humor. Don't read this book.

Absolutely Normal Chaos is one of the best books I have ever read. It has a great concept to write about. I like how Sharon Creech wrote from a kids point of view, and not in a grown-up point of view. She really knows what being a kid is like. The book tells about being a pre-teen, and the book uncovers mysteries that you would never expect! I recommend this book to girls because it tells about having a boy friend and explains about being a teenager by writing letters in a summer journal. I highly recommend this book!
