Report on The Wanderer By: Sharon Creech
Do you dare to sail across the ocean? Sophie, her three uncles, and two cousins sail across the ocean on a sailboat to Ireland seeking their grandfather, Bompie. Along the way they stop at cool places, where they explore and discover. They also meet neat people who tell them incredible stories about their lives or scary stories about the island they were on. And they find out things about each other they never new before, like what happened to Sophie's parents and that their uncle Dock wanted to be an artist before he went to college. I give The Wanderer five stars because The Wanderer is a great book and the writing style is very unique and neat. This book is set up as two dog logs Sophie and one of her cousins wrote on the sail boat. I think that the way the book is set up makes it more fun to read and more exciting. The Wanderer is my new favorite book!

I really like this book. It was really boring for the first half but everything tied together in the end. It is also VERY complicated, but it wasn't confusing. It was so complicated I don't know how anyone could explain it. However you must understand that I gave it 4 stars only because the first half was really boring, not because the book itself was only ok. I recomend this book to everyone it is so easy to understand, and yet it is mysterious at the same time. So the only thing that is left is for everyone to read it and understand it yourselves, trust me it is for your own good.

The book The Wanderer by Sharon Creech is a great book. It is a great book because in the story when you read it you really feel like you're in the story. My favorite part in the story was when the characters stopped on their way to visit people. Something good would always happen. When you start reading the book you can't put it down. This book is about a girl who is adopted but she is really happy with the family that she has. Her dream was always to go to see her Grandpa and one-day her dream comes true. From then on the adventure begins. I would definitely give this book five stars and would highly recommend it for a person to read!

A Young girl becomes enthralled with the sea.. a trip with her relatives to go see her grandfather. Stories they don't think she could ever know about him - she does. Yet Her own story she doesn't know - and the adults seem to be reluctant to tell it. A trip they don't think that they will survive they do. Each with a story to tell.
The book told from journal entries by two of the main characters is an effective way to tell it. You get to see what each is feeling - what they think the others are feeling... How they react to what each one does - the different points of view of the same events.
The big storm they survive through...
The lost loves discovered and then lost again?
The secrets of the family revealed and solutions found.
This book I would put at the top of the reading pile by the side of my bed. Finish what you are reading and be sure to start this one next. I've read it twice in the past couple of days to make sure I caught all the details... All the thoughts and all the feelings.

This book is wonderful!!! It follows the journey of Sophie, a 13 year-old girl,as she takes a somewhat perilous boat trip with her relatives, and comes to terms with some difficult times in in her past. Another great thing is that part of the book is written in the point of view of her cousin, Cody. This adds a fresh quality to the book. I really enjoyed it, and I won't tell more of the plot, and ruin it. Though that would be hard to do! I am a little older than the age for this category, but I couldn't put 14.I think that if the book is good, who cares what age it's written for!!! Bravo, Sharon Creech!!!

The Wanderer is about a girl named Sophie who goes with her cousins and uncles on a boat trip. They have to get to England to see their Bompie. While on the way to England they endure many obstacles. One obstacle was when "the wave" came. It was a huge wave that crashed on the boat and made Sophis and Cody hurt themselves. At the end Sophis and everyone else got to Bompie and took care of him.
I would recommend this book. It had a lot of details. Some parts were funny and others were serious. It was a great book.

this book had a little excitement in it. the charecters are bompie, sophie, uncle stew, uncle dock, bompie, uncle moe, brian and cody. this book had absolutle nothing in interest to me i like the more action books when there is action all the time!!!
this book didnt have that At all.
they were on a boat for like the whole book and in the middle of the book they were in a huge storm the sale brakes and cody gets hurt then like 1 hr later when you read like 40 pgs until the end they get to england were bompie is. Sophie is an orphan so cody moe and dock and even cody make fun of her they think moe is a lazey guy but hes not! he paints pictures for sophie, cody and brian the thing in this book i really didnt like there are so many pages there are like 300 pages and there can be more action in this book so if your an auther i think it would be better if you actualy put a little more action in the book you write.
this is very weird hard to figure out what the heck is happaning book in the begging and i liked that about it thats why i rated the book A 2 but other than that the book would have just been a wast of time reading it! so may i suggers you not pick up this book and read it it truly is a wast of time. <><

Action+whirlwind+fun= The Wanderer. This was an incredible book. Sophie is a thirteen year old girl that loves the sea, but has horrid dreams about it.
The book starts at her house right on the ocean. Later on in the book, Sophie, her two cousins, and three uncles are going to set sail across the Atlantic Ocean all the way to England. They are going to England to find their grandfather named Bompie. On the way they hit some major problems with the boat and the sea.
This is my favorite book that I have ever read. This book was hard to put down with all the action and fun. I'm not a bookworm, but I have to give this book major props. So go get this action packed book and read it.

This book immediately pulls you in with its imagery and simple, yet poetic prose. The story is a well-paced adventure story about a girl who joins some family members (uncles and cousins), on a sailing trip from the US to England, to visit her grandfather. Very quickly, we realize that all is not as it first appeared, with Sophie and her place in the family. As the crew faces the hardship and adventure of the journey, more of Sophie's past is revealed through the log entries of Sophie and her cousin as they journey. The story is richly layered and deals with some sad components but in an age appropriate way, and promises to have a middle-school aged reader exploring some of the bigger questions of life. Beautifully done.

Sharon Creech wrote an excellent story in The Wanderer, which is filled with much adventure and excitement, which makes it an exceptional book. It is a well-written novel that tells of the joys and sorrows of a sailing voyage, told through both the eyes of a teenage boy and a teenage girl.
Being on a sailing voyage is different for everyone who is on board. Some find it boring; others find it an adventure, like Sophie did. She always hears the sea calling her name. Sophie and the rest of the crew, Mo, Dock, Stew, Cody, and Brian embark on a voyage across the ocean, filled with adventure. They embark on a journey that brings them closer to each other, and closer to themselves. Sharon Creech beautifully tells of their amazing story in The Wanderer.
The excitement and adventure in the storyline is part of why it was such a good book. It was exciting and adventurous because there were a lot of plot twists. There are a few big surprises at the end of the book. I cannot speak of them now, but I can tell you that it was very exciting, and it really grabs your attention. There are a lot of thrills in the book. For example, on the boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the weather brings some excitement to the story. I would recommend this to boys or girls in grades four through seven. This is a pretty long book, but it is written in a way that makes it easy and enjoyable to read. I would also recommend this to an advanced reader who is looking for a book that they could read easily and quickly. In my point of view, it is a daring and inspiring story, and a worthwhile book to read.
To sum up my thoughts, this is a great book. It is filled with all of the adventure of a sailing voyage, but with two points of view. Sharon Creech gracefully tells of their extraordinary story in The Wanderer.

I like the way the author had delevolped the characters in the story. She put the characters in a lot of situations that they needed to handle. There arealot of adventurous things that happen in the story and I like stories that are like this. Sophie is my favorite character because she is always in charge of a situation. The story started out slow but it got better. They stopped in many places because Uncle Dock was looking for Rosalie and it was the stops along the way that made the story intresting.

The Wanderer has to be my favorite book of Sharon Creech's. If you love the sea, sailing, fishing or swimmming, marine life or any sea animal then you'll love this book. The book has Sophie's and Cody's journals of their journey on the sea. It is especially neat to see what Cody writes about Sophie and what Sophie writes about Cody. Everyone in the story has a distinct character. This book is a must read! It is also not very hard to get through, the print is rather large and I read it in only two days! It really shows the ups and downs of a sailor's life!

I thought The Wanderer was an awesome book! I love all the Sharon Creech books exept for Pleasing the Ghost and Absolutley Normal Choas because I haven't read them yet. I always get so hooked up into Sharon Creech books like the Wanderer and finish them in one or two days. It is an interesting adventurous book!
I like how Sharon Creech makes the words in Cody's dog log and Sophie's journel. When you read The Wanderer you just can't put down the book. The one person in my 3rd grade class that I convinced to read The Wanderer says it is is his favorite book!

This latest book by Sharon Creech is my favorite one of her books. It's kind of like her other books since it's about self-discovery, but the setting is very different. The main character, Sophie, is interesting and unique. She is sailing to England on a boat with male relatives. Along the way, there is humor. Even though this book is vintage Creech, it is also different. If you enjoy the other books Sharon Creech wrote, you will enjoy this book. I also recommend it to pre-teen girls.

This is an awesome book about a girl named Sophie traveling on a boat with her 3 uncles and 2 cousins(all boys). She shows them that she can do things besides cooking and cleaning and makes them eat thier words. She travels with them across the ocean to 'Bompie' thier grandfather. Along the way she learns new things about her fellow sailors that she never knew. It is an amazing book about a girl and her journey to meet her granfather. I would highly recomend it to any teenagers or older people.

Sophie, an orphan loves to sail. But is going to England with her three uncles and two cousins too far? Traveling the sea brings back dreams and a few stories about Sophie's mysterious childhood. Then there is Cody, Sophie's loud mouthed strange yet interesting cousin. Travel through the twists and turns of the adventure, through their journals as they struggle to prove themselves to the rest of the crew. This is an exciting book in which you will immediately attach to the characters.

The Wanderer
In this book there is two main characters; Sophie and Cody. They are cousins but of different gene pools. Sophie was adopted when she was little. She's what you would call a three sided person. One side is dreamy and romantic, another side is logical and down to earth, and the other side is hard headed and impulsive. Cody, on the other hand, is very frivolous. He always was fooling around and didn't take things seriously.
Sophie was always dreaming of sailing across the ocean. When her Uncle Dock (Sophie's favorite) told her that she could go with him on a journey across the ocean to see his father, Bompie, Sophie plead to her parents. Her mother decided to let her go knowing she would be safe. When Sophie set off, she didn't know what she was dealing with. On her trip everybody had to teach the crew something. Sophie told stories that she heard from Bompie when she was little. Cody, the knuckle head, showed juggling. Everybody else (Sophie's Uncles and other cousins) taught sailing. But nobody knew about the fierce storm ahead.
I find it very unique that Sharon Creech writes the book from a different point of view. She had you read from Sophie's and Cody's journals. Sometimes things are repeated but I like her style because it's different. I would recommend this book to anybody. It is exciting and you'll never want to put it down. I usually don't like these kind of books but this was great.

Can you imagine sailing on "The Wanderer", watching the graceful dolphins pass you by, with your cousin Cody joking about every little thing? By you are on a journey, a journey to visit Grandfather Bompie across the ocean.
But in this book, it all comes together. With a wonderfully written novel by Sharon Creech, no doubt it shouldn't have earned the Newberry. Its got extreme spunk that every kid of all ages will read and enjoy. It's got adventure and it all comes together. Sharon definitly has flair when she writes. Through Cody and Sophie's dairy's (or logs)you can actually feel the wind in your hair or the rain on your face.
The book is mainly based on Sophie,an extremly realistic child that I felt I really got to know during the novel. She is accompinied by her three uncles and two cousins, as they sail across the ocean to be ruined with her grandfather, Bompie. But as they do so, Sophie's past becomes unfolded. This book will make you grasp on to your chair for dear life, and clutch the book until you find out what happens next. I definitly recomend this book, it's a Sharon Creech masterpeice.

This is an interesting book. It explains Sophie and her feelings and thoughts. It has a little bit of humor in it but it mostly describes the trip from the U.S. all the way to England on a boat with five other men and JUST her! When you read it, you picture all these images in your head and you kind of make a little movie with the things she describes in the story. I think its an amazing story for all age groups!

This was the best book I have ever read. Sophie, who is the main character, is really a really neat kind person. She loves the sea, and is a good sailor. She sails across the ocean with her uncles and cousins, and lots of interesting things happen along the way. I won't tell you what they are, you have to read for yourself. I just finished The Wanderer a few minutes ago, and it is very definintly the best book I've read in a while. The story is told in journal form from the point of view of Sophie and her cousin Cody. They, Uncle Mo (Cody's father), Uncle Stew, his son Brian, and Uncle Dock set out across the ocean in their ship, The Wanderer, to visit Bompie in England. A lot of things happen along the way, and as they help Sophie find herself, her family finds themselves as well. This is a beautiful, beautiful story, and I also liked the black and white illustrations at the chapter beginnings.

The Wanderer by Sharon Creech is a very exciting book. You can feel the waves and the wind hit your face as you sail along reading this book. Sitting there you feel as if you are in the boat rocking along. But then you look up and only see your bedroom.
The Wanderer is about a young girl named Sophie. She loves the sea and has dreamed about going on a sailing trip for her whole life. The opportunity comes up to go with her two cousins and three uncles, and of course she is going to say yes.
They are heading to see Bompie their grandfather who is clear across the ocean. It is going to be a very long trip. No one knows what could happen out there in the deep blue sea. They don't even know if they are going to make it to grandfather or if they are going to die.
This is a great book. It is intense and the author is very descriptive. You can see the boat out on the ocean or in the harbor. You can also feel like you are right there with them trying to get to Bompie. I really enjoyed this book and hope you do too.

The beginning of The Wanderer was slow. It admit that at first I thought the book was boring. A bunch of brothers and cousins fixed a ship and went out to sea. Well, after I got about half-way into the book I realized it was much more than that. Sharon Creech describes the ocean, how it feels, how it looks, how it smells, so well, you actually feel like you're on the ship yourself. As this book is told from diary entries of two teenaged cousins, it is not hard to follow. Reading the two cousin's descriptions of life aboard the Wanderer, their ship, is very interseting as they have extremely different personalities. Toward the end, when the ship and its crew finally reach their destination, it is more emotional than any other part of the book. It makes the reader realize the plot and the history of one character that was a total mystery until now. The wonderful descriptions and extrememly moving experiences for the characters and the reader make this book an incredibly wonderful and amazing read for any book lover.

The Wanderer is about a girl named Sophie and her uncles Stew,Dock, and Mo and two cousins Brian and Cody. They sailed from Conneticut to Grand Manan and on there way to Nava Scotia a huge white foam wave went over the ship and nobody could see it coming because it was so foggie and then the wave hit and Sophie coudn't find Dock or Cody. So does she find them or did they go overboard? You'll have to find out.

Creech does a wonderful job of telling the story of Cody, Sophie, and their family as they make the difficult journey across the Atlantic in a sailboat. Written with confidence the alternating first person narrations works extremely well as we see both the inner-turmoil that each of the characters face as well as how events were pecieved by another. Occasionally telling the story of Bompie, the grandparent they are going to visit, the whole book is written with wonderful language and imagery with numerous suspensful moments that help to keep the reader involved throughout the story. Capturing the feelings of these adolsencents well this is a book that would be better served by a different cover as boy should enjoy this book as much as girls.

Maybe you shouldn't trust my review because I was too bored to read the whole book. I only bought it because I saw it was a book about the ocean. Sophie, the main character, is very unrealistic and quite annoying. Cody, another major character, was pretty realistic and I liked him better. I was disappointed to see there is more of Sophie's diary that Cody's. And like another reviewer said, they're crossing the whole ocean just to visit their grandfather? The author could've done a better job on that. And the way I understand it, this book is mainly about family. I personally consider that to be kind of boring. From what I hear, Creech's other books are better, so read one of them instead.

I was really looking forward to reading this book since it's by the author of my favorite book and because it got really good reviews. After I got through with it though, I didn't see what the big deal was. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. It was a simple story, with "suspense" built in, but the so-called "mystery" was easy to figure out. And I got sick of reading, the sea, the sea, the sea at the beginning of every chapter. I will say that Sophie was a great character, very refreshing, and the main topic of them sailing across the atlantic was also refreshing. I've never read a book about sailing before. Well maybe some of you out there will like this book, and maybe the reason I didn't like it very much was because I'm getting too old for it(15), but hey, this is just my opinion.

I just finished Sharon Creech's book The Wanderer and it was great!!!! I really enjoyed Sharon Creech's book The Wanderer because it was funny and an adventure. They talk in their journals only. If your looking for an adventure Sharon Creech's books are the ones you are looking for, because they go on a boat trip and don't see land for a long time. Girls need to read this book.

The Wanderer by Sharon Creech, is a good and exciting book. It is about a thirteen-year-old girl named Sophie and her cousin Cody who is the same age. They travel with their other cousin and three uncles to England on a sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean. They do this because they want to visit one of their uncle's fathers. This is a touching book about friendship.

Once again, Sharon Creech tells her story in the shape of a journal. In fact, there are even two different points of view: Cody's and Sophies. You know instantly there's something strange going on, which makes you want to read until the very end to find out what. It is also very funny, and I would definitely recommend this book to any Sharon Creech fan.

The Wanderer by Sharon Chreech. This book is about a thirteen year old, Shopie, who is the only girl in the crew of the Wanderer. The other crew members are her close three uncles.Uncle stew,Uncle Mo,Uncle Dock, plus her two cousins,Brian, and Cody.
They're going to England so they can send it back to their gradfather. But first they have to go through the courageous
Atlantic ocean. Shopie's cousin Cody doesn't know why his father took him on this trip. Everyone, including his dad thinks Cody is a knuckle head doofus. Cody wants to prove to his dad that he's not a knucle head doofus. Sophie wanted an adventure and she got a GREAT,GREAT adventure. Newberry award winner made a courages book and I love it. I think this book is for ages 8 and up.

Great for any reader who likes adventure. This book is filled with emotions and a great adventure. Not very many people would go on such an adventure but she had to and she did. Must Read! I loved this book and so did my child!

The Wanderer, by Sharon Creech, is a very good book. I'm 11, and it's one of the best books I've read. Sophie, an ocean lover, takes an adventure to England to visit her grandfather, Bompie. They encounter clams, tidal waves, and dolphins. I rate this book a 5 STAR!

I have read two other books by Sharon Creech, Love That Dog and Absolutly Normal Chaos. Both very good books but I enjoyed The Wanderer the most. It is about a girl named Sophie who will soon be taking a trip on her Uncle Dock's sail boat called "The Wanderer" with her cosin's Brian and Cody and Uncles Stew,Mo,and Dock. You read the whole story from Sophie's jornal and Cody's "Doglog." Reading it that way makes it very interesting. Its hard to stop reading since each chapter or jornal entry is short and there are many of them so its not to short a book still. All together it was a amazing book and I would advise anyone to read it.

If you like to watch movies like Castaway, the Wanderer is the book. It was about a 11 year old girl, 2 boys 2 grown ups. They were going to Ireland to see Bompie, Sophie's Grandfather. I thought it was a good book and I think you would too.

The wander is a very good adventure story about traveling across the ocean in a boat. Unfortunately it is very hard to get into. I had to start it twice before it got interesting.
It is about Sophie and her cousin Cody. In the beginning it tells about how Sophie always seemed drawn to the sea and how she was so happy to get to come on this transatlantic voyage with her uncles and cousins. Sophie and Cody write in there journal about there impatience to leave and get to England and see there grandfather. It ends with a surprise about Sophie's identity.
If you cannot get into boring books I wouldn't recommend reading this book. If you can, it is an exciting story.
