This book is essential for everyone with children. I've been reading this to my son since he was about six months old. He's now 18 months old and brings this book to me each night to read and loves to point out the moon on each page. There are endless books out there about colors and the alphabet and such and this book is completely unique and whimsical with its content--you won't find another like it. Another thing I love about this book is its excellent use of poetic devices; each page contains at least one device and this contributes greatly to the beauty and fluency of the text ("I took the moon for a walk last night; It followed behind like a still summer kite..."). I'm an English teacher and have used it as an exemplar for how to incorporate poetic devices into writing. I also love the fact that this isn't a "baby" book; I'm confident that my son will enjoy this for many years to come.

There is an enchanting quality to the moon for both young and old, and what could be more magical than taking the moon for a walk? The fresh and imaginative text written in smooth rhyme lends a quality of romanticism that spans the ages, and the illustrations enrapture you with their unique beauty. It's a tough choice, but this may be my favorite children's book.

We bought this book when my daughter was about 15 months. For about a month, we read this book to her every night before she went to bed. She still likes reading this book and checking out all the details that are not captured in words (e.g. moon's shoe falls off and the next page you see the dogs of the town barking. If you pay close attention, you will see the shoe in child's hand but the child is not totally in the picture - just a clue. The next page shows the child holding the hand of the moon and now the moon has its shoe back). My little one loves reading books and we have quite a library. Out of all those books, this one would definitely make my top 3 list.
The Wanderer :: Absolutely Normal Chaos (Walk Two Moons) :: Dirty Rowdy Thing (Wild Seasons Book 2) :: Wild Thing (Winnie the Horse Gentler, Book 1) :: Chasing Redbird

I bought this book having bought "Picture This" which was illustrated by Allison Jay. My 22 month old loves it!! I like the fact that there are only a few words per page and the story has wonderful rhythm when read out loud. My daughter now tries to say the words along with me and tries to read it to her doll "Dolly". The illustrations for some reason arouse a feeling of nostalgia in me, and my daughter loves to point out the moon, the cows, the swing in the park and the various other wonderful pictures. Well worth a look!

So I accidentally discovered this book. It quickly became one of the favorites as I read for the preschool classroom where I worked. Now I have my own daughters that love this story. On it's own, the pictures tell a beautiful story. I've read this too many times to count and would recommend it to any book lover.

BEAUTIFUL PROSE, WONDERFUL PICTURES. My two-year-old son LOVES this book. The assonance (vowel rhyme within the words) in the prose makes it flow much like a poem but much more sophisticated than the popular, "Good Night Moon." The first line: "I took the moon for a walk last night, it followed along like a still summer kite, high in the sky through darkness and light, when I took the moon for a walk." Animals and people appear from page to page with wonderful landscapes that reward readers when closely examined. I am a librarian and this book should be on a list of BEST CHILDREN'S BOOKS, EVER.

My daughter just loves this book. She loves following the moon on his walk and she loves the pictures in it. The rhyming is simple and the pictures have tiny little details (like the couple walking their dog in the background). She loves looking at the playground scene with the little toy boat in the pond and the swings and the bridge and the church in the background. It is short and ends with the little boy sleeping in his bed as the moon watches over him. The perfect ending to a bedtime book.

This book is beautifully illustrated and the prose is wonderful. This is a favourite of everyone in our house. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. My son is 2 1/2 and will find joy reading this for years to come. The illustrations are magical. A must have.

Parents, longing for a bedtime reading book that is well-written and beautifully illustrated, will find "I Took The Moon for a Walk" a delight. Lyrically written, and with factual information on the moon at the end of the story makes this more than just your ordinary picture book. A great choice for a gift!

My 19 month old daughter revels in this book. She knows exactly where it is kept, and insists on having it read to her at least a half dozen times a day. The pictures are lovely, full of little surprises that you catch each time you read it.
