This book has always been one of my favorites and I've always been really touched by the story. Yes it's kind of unlikely that the mother takes a ladder across town and does a B&E into her son's window- BUT I still find this to be a really beautiful story especially now that I have my own little boy. And actually I probably wouldn't have any qualms about breaking into my sons house (if he weren't still a baby). If you can suspend your disbelief over that one part and take the whole story for what it is-a story of a mother's love- then I think you could find it very meaningful. I especially love to tell my son the phrase that the mother in the book repeats to her son "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, My baby you'll be".

Very sweet book that I bought on recommendation from a friend. It was a great story, but just the *tiniest* bit weird. It speaks about a mother driving across town in the middle of the night to sneak into her adult son's bedroom and rock him like when she did when he was a baby. Complete with a picture of her driving over to his house with a ladder strapped to her roof. As I said, it's a very sweet story, and the weird parts will probably go over children's heads. Very poignant tale of the love between a mother and child.

So touching, so sentimental, so absolutely true. It is the most heartfelt and heart warming (and well as heart melting and tear inducing) book I have read to my child. Call me biased but it reaffirms my belief that the only constant and unconditional love in this world is that of a parent for their child. Just as it speaks to me about my love for my child, it also makes me re-remember my parents immense love and care for me. Such is the book! As for those who think it is creepy, I am sad you miss the point. Its not about the transiency of the action but about the constancy of the emotion and that is nothing but beautiful and angelic !!!!!!
P.S. I Still Love You (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) :: The I LOVE YOU Book :: Guess How Much I Love You :: I Love You Through And Through :: Buried Prey (The Prey Series Book 21)

This book is a classic. I remember reading this book as a kid, and identifying with the baby boy in the story. Now that I have a kid, I’m identifying more with the mom. I still tear up by the end of the book, but it’s still a wonderful story.

Picture book with a sweet message. A mother watches over her son from birth thru early adulthood as she peeks in on him every night. Eventually he marries and has a child of his own and the pattern is repeated for his child. When his elderly mother calls him one day and asks for some help, he is seen carrying her to her bed as he repeats the refrain from the story:
I'll love you forever.
I'll like you for always.
As long as I live
My baby/mother you'll be.
I've loved this book for years and love reading it to my own elderly mother.
I'll love you forever.

A classic book for children and parents. Actually more for parents becsause it addresses the circles of life which children wont understand until they have aging parents. Parents-expects a good cry. your children will grow into this timeless story.

I dare you to read this without crying. Every. Single. Time. Seriously, I thought after the first couple of times that I was off the hook. Nope. I cry every time I read this to my little honey.
Honestly, I remembered this book because it was featured in a season of friends (you know, the one with Emma's 1st Birthday party?).
It's an amazing story about the unconditional love of a mother...and the role reversal of that when our parents age.
Maybe order a box of kleenex to go with this...

Okay, this book is something I take out and read to myself or to my 8 year old son whenever he is feeling a bit down in the dumps. This book starts off with a mother telling her baby she will love him forever ... and this theme continues when he is in grade school, a teenager, then off to the real world. The mother still shows him she loves him forever. Then the mother gets older and this time it is the son who tells her he will love her forever. And she gets old and frail and he holds her in his lap telling her he will love her forever. Then he goes home to his newborn and tells his child he will love them forever. Get out the hankies. Beautiful story.

I purchased this book for my girls, because I remembered reading it myself as a child. It has quickly become a favorite of my five year old, and she has me read it almost every night! As a mother, you can expect a lot of emotion from this book, as it brings you through a mother raising her child, and all of the trials and errors of such an endeavor. All throughout the book, you are overwhelmed with the feeling of motherly love, and, although the ending is a little sad, it will make you feel like giving your kids a deep hug at the end.

What a sweet story! My 2nd grader brought this book home from school as part of his reading assignment for the week. I got teary eyed reading it. I bought this hard cover version so that we can have it in our family and read it every night (if possible). Some day, I hope my son will read it to his kid(s).

So thankful this book is still available, as friends and family are now having their own children. This is a classic book even if it relates to a little boy in the story if fits my daughter, also. I love you forever is what we all carry in our hearts for our kids. I have had a version of this book for over 20 years for my own 2 children. Wonderful it is still in print! Bought 2 extras - just in case!

Reminds me how strong unconditional love for a child can be. Love this book, so simple. I use to read it to my Son when he was younger; now, since 5 years of age, he insists on reading it to me. Love it!

Who could give this beautiful book a bad rating? I purchased it as a gift to my mother with a hand written note in the cover. It was the book she read to me growing up, and she really loves the thoughtful gift. The book was shipped fast, and it was a great deal! Whether you are here to buy this for your kids, for yourself, or for someone else, just do it. It's such a beautiful story.

This has been a favorite story in our household for more than twenty years. Such a sweet story. My oldest and I often close our correspondence with "Love you forever, like you for always." Bought two copies to give as gifts to first-time-parents.

Listen to the author read it aloud on Youtube. My husband thinks the story is creepy, but I think it's sweet. But I do wonder--where is the baby's father as he's growing up? And then when the baby is a man, where is his wife--he has a newborn... I've read it so many times that I've come up with theories.

What's not to love about this childhood classic? I always loved this as a child and so of course, I had to get a copy to share with my own children. I recently read an article about how the words to the book started as a song which stemmed from actual events in the authors life. The book is now even more richly meaningful to me. http://robertmunsch.com/book/love-you-forever

My husband bought this book and wasn't paying attention and accidentally ordered the soft cover, but that is our fault. We have small children and they are still too rough with books, but my husband loved it when his mother read him this book and now I read it to his boys. So we just put this book up high so they can't rip it up.

First of all, the people who are saying this book is "creepy" are taking it way too literally. It's a sweet sentimental message that parents are going to love their children no matter what- throwing things in the toilet, moving away, etc. My mom read this book to us throughout our childhood, and I never suffered any emotional trauma from it. On top of that, she gives it as a gift to expectant mothers we know. The book flips views at the end as the son goes to be with his mother when she can no longer come to see him.
To this day my mom signs cards and letters to the three of us with, "Love you forever, like you for always, for as long as I'm living my baby you'll be."
