Very disappointed! I'm a fan of The Parasol Protectorate and Finishing School series, but this novella failed to match the wit and inventiveness of those. The majority of the novella was taken up with soft-porn encounters. The Parasol Protectorate has included steamy sexual content, but in a full novel it was more incidental to the story than in a novella where it became more of the focus.

I first met Preshea in the Finishing School series. I didn't love her or hate her. This novella showed her in a different light and I loved meeting this version of her. I also really liked the romance. Lots of warm feelings.

Love everything she writes. What a creative mind! And her newsletter to give us a little something in the interim...forget about it!! What a great idea. Ever read books and want to hang out with the author ??‍♀️
The Forgotten Beasts of Eld :: and a Silver Bustier (Pyper Rayne Book 1) :: A Supernatural Society Novella (Volume 2) - Romancing the Werewolf :: Blameless (The Parasol Protectorate) :: Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate)

After reading her other series I was excited and thrilled to read poison or protect. Gail carriger has fleshed out a truly amazing side character to this amazingly romantic hearthrob of a book. This is not suitable for anyone who is genteel but I found it sexy and imaginative.

I very much enjoyed this story and thought it was well paced and exciting. I enjoyed the more adult content of the story but was surprised by it. It doesn't fit with the paperback stories and could be a less pleasant surprise for the parents of actual young adult readers.

Poison and Protect allows us to catch up on Preshea Buss, one of the students from the Ms. Carriger's Finishing School series. I thoroughly enjoyed this foray into the romance genre, and learning more about Preshea's background and motivations. A fun; but lamentably quick, read!

As someone who does not normally get novellas, I got and loved this one. It was sweet, fun, and interesting. Preshea was not one of my favs in the Finishing School series, but I really liked the adult she became. I don't want to spoil too much, but I definitely think it's worth getting if you enjoy this world at all. It's pretty lengthy for a novella as well. There was even a cameo from everyone's favorite vampire.

Gail Carriger is one of my favorite authors and consistently delivers well written, fun stories with strong, female lead characters who have interesting side kicks. What I like most about her characters is that they are like-able and they say the wittiest, laugh out loud things.

Absolutely loved this novella. I hadn't read a Gail novel for a while and had forgotten how much I love her wit! Gail states in the beginning that this is written for us, her fans. It really did feel that it was written for us.

Gail Carriger's Finishing School stories are my favorites. Poison or Protect is a story about one of the characters from that series.

An excellent story. Well written. The mood is "light-hearted" in a restrained way, not a silly way. I wish it was available as an audio book and a printed book.

Fine writing from Ms. Carriger once again. Delighted to be reacquainted with Preshea Buss (from the Finishing School Series). Never thought I'd empathize so much with her. An intriguing premise and engaging prose kept me up reading this until I finally finished at 3am. No regrets.

If you like the other Carriger books you'll enjoy this one. Preshea as heroin was tough to swallow at first but she grows on you. A fun short story with intriguing new characters and a romantic streak.

A great addition to the world Gail Carriger has created. It actually made me LIKE PRESSIA BUSS! OMG. I definitely enjoyed it, and as usual, loved how the story was woven into the stories of other characters you may have met in her novels. I hope for more novellas about other characters as well.

I have enjoyed Gail Carriger's books for many years and 'Poison or Protect' did not disappoint. A wonderful diversion, just the thing to pass the time at your country home when counting the days to the start of the season back in London.

Lady Preshea Villentia is a highly trained spy and assassin and also a widow 4 times over which has earned her the nickname "The Mourning Star". She is now set up to live her life as she pleases, being no longer under any obligation to anyone but when Lord Akledama invites her to a secret meeting, she realizes she is bored and the task of keeping a Duke safe while under the guise of working for him to break up the relationship between his daughter and an unsuitable suitor seems like just the thing. She wasn't counting on a Scottish soldier to truly enliven things for her.

Set in the world of Ms. Carriger's Parasol Protectorate and Finishing School series, Preshea is a character from the Finishing School who always said that she was more interested in murdering her husbands than cohabiting nicely with them. It seems that what she really needed was someone who knew her worth and was content with any affection she choose to show him. The courtship was sweet and the book a fun, fluffy read.

Excellent novella with old favourites and new. Miss Carriger once again takes Victorian sensibilities, turns them on their head, adds a few supernaturals and produces a story full of emotion, laughs and imagination.
