I really like this story. I'm a follower of Jesus and I didn't find anything objectionable in it. It teaches girls that they are unique and to be thankful for the different qualities they have been given-like freckles etc- that makes them them. I talks about emotions too. I really like where it says something like if something doesn't seem right to just say NO. You can look on YouTube and find where people have taped themselves reading the book. I did that before purchasing for a neighbor girl.

It's a decent book, we like it.... Buuut there are a few pages talking about wearing w/e clothes she wants & having her hair however she wants & also having "wild looking" friends....I believe it says "there's no rules about what you wear or how you have your hair" something like that, buuuut really, there are rules in some situation's. And, there are people out there that aren't so great to befriend.....

Love the actual content of the book. Every little girl should read this to boost their confidence and help them know it’s okay to be different or be adventurous! However, a little disappointed in quality, as one of my pages, the print is almost not readable. I would’ve given 5 stars had it printed properly, as I really love the story!

Lovely book with a wonderful message for my girls but mine (recieved today Jan 31, 2018) also had the exact printing issue mentioned in other reviews, so unfortunately I'm sending it back. I hope the publisher corrects this issue so I can reorder it to join all the other AKR books we have in our home library.

My eight year old daughter loved this book. She read it multiple times in a row and insisted on bringing it to school today to show her teacher. It's such a lovely book with a great message for girls -- so I was thrilled that it resonate with her.

Delightful book with encouraging message for our girls. Interspersing humorous pages amidst the more "serious". I LOVE the message. I even gave one to our granddaughter for her 15th birthday and it resonated with her as well. Lovely illustrations as well!

Dear Girl is an adorable book. However, I'm only giving 3 stars because the ink on one of the pages was almost completely illegible. So disappointed as I was planning to give as a gift. Would love if they sent another copy.

I want to love this book and bought it for my 2 preschool-age daughters. But it is so bland, as are most of Ms. Rosenthal's books. Only a few words per page. Tries to say a few deep things, but so much of it is kind of "meh".

Very sad, I ordered this book way in advance of the event I was attending. It was a gift. When the recipient looked through the book, one of the pages was miss printed. What are the chances of this occurring? So embarrassed.

I LOVE this book and will be purchasing 2 books.for my daughters. Amy Krouse Rosenthal died in March of 2017 of ovarian cancer. Amy was going to write this book alone but started getting ill in 2015. She asked her daughter to co-author so that the message could come from both a mother a daughter to better reach a wider audience. Dear Girl, empowers girls to be brave, silly; Just themselves. Always, always never forget their mother is there for them. Powerful.

I am absolutely SICKENED by the ink issue! I have been an the store customer for a very long time and this is a first for sure! I am a first-grade teacher and mother of 5. Our oldest child and only daughter is graduating this year and I thought this book was a wonderful tribute to her authenticity. I was thrilled when this book arrived and became shocked when I saw how pages had nothing more than smudged ink marks instead of words. How very, very sad! I am sharing my situation with every teacher I can in my district. We purchase a large number of books from the store and this is unacceptable! I will look for another gift. I still cannot believe that no-one from the store will help make this wrong right.

This book is outstanding for all girls out there! While it is short and sweet, it has a great point of view on each page, the lesson that you wish every girl (and child) would know. It's okay to be exactly who you are, even if you are different. It's okay to not get invited to every party - that would be exhausting. As a school counselor - I love this book to empower children, to share these sweet words of wisdom, to help them feel comfortable in their own skin. To know - it's going to be okay. Share it with every girl you know. If someone is grumpy about the content - they must not have ever needed these beautiful words of encouragement and support. It's spot.on. The only thing I didn't like is that it identified itself for a very young age group - and it's fantastic for girls of EVERY age. I hope you consider giving it a chance. It's truly wonderful & I hope my young girl grows up to hold onto these sweet words of wisdom.

I bought this book for my daughter for her 11th birthday. I read it to her at bedtime on her birthday. :) She loved it, and I know it touched her heart and told her things she needs to hear. She was smiling, cuddling up, laughing, and her feet were wiggling the whole time I read it to her. This book tells her things that I tell her all of the time, and these things you cannot be told enough or in enough ways. So yes! Buy this book for that girl in your life, no matter if she is young or a teenager or beyond. She needs it.
P.S. Amy Krouse Rosenthal is one of my favorite children’s book authors. (I am a teacher.) Definitely check out more of her books!

Girl Power! I think every girl needs to read this children’s book. What an uplifting and wonderful novel celebrating us females! I can’t begin to express how enlightening and empowering this novel is. I am definitely going to be buying a few copies of this novel and sharing them.
This novel is basically made up of an assortment of two-page spread entries which begin with “Dear Girl,” and tell the female reader that they are okay, they are special, they are unique and loved. My heart was bursting after my first reading. I immediately had to reread it as it hit on so many different strings that girls address as they are growing up, that now, on my second time through, I stopped and really enjoyed each and every page of the novel. Girls, it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to be alone, it’s okay to ask all kinds of questions, to say no and it’s okay to dress different. I loved the illustration of the girl; her simple style went well with the novel. I enjoyed the illustrations and I liked how they didn’t overtake the novel’s objective.
I really liked the pages that said, “Dear Girl, You won’t be invited to every single party on the planet. (Which is really okay- can you image how exhausting that would be?).” This page hit home with me, this page covers many topics that individuals face with growing up. I can’t tell you how many times as a substitute teacher I have had to deal with issues of girls not being accepted by their peers. It hurts to see this happen but like the other pages in this novel, it tells girls that it is okay. This novel tells girls that it is also okay to find people that are different, people that are not like them. As a parent, these pages speak volumes. This is a wonderful, fantastic children’s book! I highly recommend checking it out and perhaps buying a few copies: one for your own child, one for your teacher or giving one away as we all know, we should empower others.

This mother/daughter writing team offers down-to-earth advice and reach-for-the-stars inspiration for girls, encouraging them to be true to themselves while also being brave, strong, curious, and thoughtful. Each short love letter is highlighted by Holly Hatam’s simple yet lovely illustrations, making this a great read.

I purchased this book elsewhere (and overpaid) because I was looking for a last minute gift for my adult daughter's birthday. I gave it to her in lieu of a card. She read it aloud to the family at her birthday lunch, and was in tears at the end. It was very touching. I hope to be able to read it with her daughters someday.

This book is a must read and purchase for all the girls in your life, young and old. Girls can always use a little reminder to be brave, confident and know they are special and loved for who they are. Amy Krouse Rosenthal is one of my favorite authors, get all her books. She was a gifted writer and an inspiration.

I'm disappointed this book gets high reviews, I find it to be mediocre at best. The language is clumsy and the messages very superficial. There are a couple of empowering pages, but mostly focus on physical appearances and individuality through appearance. Kids need skill based identities and this book missed the mark. The bar is simply set too low and feeds into stereotypes.

Beautiful book that I happened to stumble upon. I will be gifting this book to all my 4 daughters on their 10th birthday along with a letter inside. Very relatable, and encouraging book that I hope my child takes to heart and treasures forever.
