A Longmire Mystery (Walt Longmire Mysteries Book 8)

Craig Johnson is the best kept secret in mystery books. Thankfully the Longmire television show lead me to his books and each one of them captures you and takes you to Absaroka County. I am a strong reader but still find that I can reread this group of books, learning more and enjoying it all over again. Don't miss Sheriff Longmire's stories of murder, love and life.

Can't wait for the next installment of this wonderful story about real Americans.

So glad the plot line remains constant and true to the spirit of these solid, strong, (and sometimes not so strong) people. I feel like I grew up with them and not down in Texas where only the scenery has changed.

Mr. Johnson has quickly become one of my favorite authors. His characters are excitingly fresh, the story line keeps you reading until the end, and begging for more.....much more! He's going to have to write faster or I'm gonna have to read slower. You really should read his books before attempting to try the tv series, as they are a great disappointment. His stories really are that good....boy howdy!

Excellent. You need to revise a little if you read a chapter per night. You never know quite what is coming, but Walt comes over very well and iss obviously much liked and trusted in his county. He has good sidekicks - quite feasible ones.

I really enjoy the Longmire series. The characters and geography are interesting. There is enough almost factual description of the social culture of Wyoming, the mixture of different Indian/first Nation tribes, white cowboy and Spanish descendants to keep this different and exciting.

Thanks to reruns of the TV series "Longmire" I was introduced to the work of Craig Johnson. As the Crow flies was my first reading of his books. Al I can say is : "don't miss this book" it is one of the best of any books in this category I have ever read, no foolin!

I really enjoyed this new installment in the Walt Longmire series. I really like Walt. He's truly a nice guy. Flawed, but nice. Johnson's true strength is in creating memorable characters. Even the bad guys are sympathetic. You want to head out to Wyoming and have a bite to eat with these folks at the local diner. He always delivers an intriguing mystery. Can't wait for the next one. Would love to have more of Vic in that one.

One of those series where the characters become your friends. Craig Johnson detail of the outdoors, and of the inner thoughts of characters just pull you in. Going to be sad when I’ve read through them all.

This series installment. Is primarily set on the Reservation. Trying to help Henry organize Cady s wedding, Walt gets sidetracked helping a Lolo Long, new head of the Trabal Police, so be a murder. Interesting to watch Walt give "sheriffing lessons" to this new character. Lolo starts out rather abrasive, but becomes less so as we get to know her.

I have read and enjoyed all of the longmire stories. I feel like I know the characters and love the descriptions of Wyoming. A story about today that feels like the past. Love the simplicity of the settings.

I was hooked with my very first Walt Longmire book and each additional one just gets better and better. I tried to keep them in pretty much chronological sequence of the lead character but even if you don't each book is a great read. This one is no exception and I strongly recommend it to any reader.

I picked up a book, and was immediately back where I grew up at: Wyoming. Mr. Johnson has it down. Lakes, Rivers, Counties, Highway Patrol, Cheyenne, Rawlins, abutting states, where everything is relative to each other in the state... And, it's a great Mystery / Detective Book at that.

Another great book by Craig Johnson. Doesn't matter if you read them in order they were written. Junkyard Dogs was my first, I fell in love with the way he writes. You almost feel as though your there with his wonderful descriptions of time and place. Suspenseful and humorous, couldn't ask for a better read. Looking forward to reading more.

Walt Longmire and Henry Standing Bear are a welcome departure from the wise-cracking, crime-fighting partners so common in today's popular media. They use their magnificent humanity to avert violence and their equally magnificent physicality only as a last resort. Craig Johnson breathes life and color into this modern western in a way unparalleled by other writers in the genre.

I love the Walt Longmire character, first of all. This is a very human story, great complicated plot, but it's definitely dark. It all ends well for Walt and he unravels the murder, but it goes to some very interesting and often sad places before you get to the end.

This is another Walt Longmire mystery story by the very talented Craig Johnson. Those that have read his first book, The Cold Dish, know that it has been made into a TV program that wasn't too accurate and wasn't nearly as good as the novel. I would recommend that all first time readers start with The Cold Dish and read the following books in order. He develops the characters in each book and each book follows the preceding one. As The Crow Flies is his Eighth in this series. Craig Johnsons' dialog is crisp, funny and his knowlege of literature and history is included in Sheriff Longmire's background, unlikely as that would seem
for a small town Wyoming Sheriff. The cast of characters are wonderful and new one occur as the reader goes from book to book.

I love these novels they are all great. You wonder how he can keep coming up with such great stories. It seems like you are part of the story as it goes along and you try to figure out how he will keep his family on the right track, plus figuring out the crime too.

I love these books. The characters are so well defined and the humor is great. Also, the descriptions of the Bighorn Mountain area are so vivid. I hope he writes more full books, rather than short stories.

Craig Johnson's series only gets better with each novel. The plot always has something to keep the reader guessing. The characters are interesting and very real. I am developing a serious crush on the sheriff.

Stumbled onto the Longmire TV series by accident, and now we are addicted. These books are good, quick reads. It is refreshing to see that the series, while changing the backstories of some of the characters, has remained true to the spirit of the books.

Craig Johnson always delivers the goods. I really enjoyed the character of Lolo Long as the new rez sheriff. She seemed a little brittle and uncooperative in the beggining, but sure came around when she figured out that Longmire was really trying to help her. As usual I was kept guessing to the very end as to who killed the young lady and why.

A good read. Well constructed, and a good series. It seems a lot of modern writers are trying to get into the series business, but few turn out to be as entertaining or long lived as John D. McDonald's Travis McGee books. This one might.

I love how he writes his characters; no "He said" or "She said" stuff. It just flows although, occasionally, I have to go back to see who is speaking.
This book has believable characters and paints The West accurately.
I'm hooked.

This author is awesome. I love his books. His characters are deep, thought out, involved and funny.
There just isnt anything I dont love about this series... but that there arnt any books of his that I havent read yet, lol

All the Longmire books are excellent! I could hardly put them down while reading. Loved the characters and the writing style and the adventures. Much better than the TV show. I like the characters and stories much more than on TV.

A complex insight into life on  the   reservation.          

When a  young woman appears to jump from a cliff the investigation reveals there is so much more to be  learned.
Another great novel by Craig Johnson looking forward to his next one.

I bought this book mainly because I loved the Longmire tv series that was on over the summer. The book is great. Love the story going into detail about the area and about the American Indians and some of their customs. Good read, well worth the purchase.

Book was well researched and well written. It had a lot of action and suspense. I live in the area where this was written and I greatly appreciate how he gets the details of the country and the way of life almost to the exact "T".

I saw Craig Johnson interview on the Charlie Rose show and knew I had to read his first book.... I have now read all of his books in the Walt Longmire series and can't wait for the next one. I hope they keep the "Longmire" show going on TV..

I really enjoy the Longmire series on TV and then reading the books puts a face onto the various people. I have ready every single one of this series and truely enjoyed every one of them. I may read them again simply because I like the way the author writes.
