This book is a typical Walt Longmire book. I bought it because after reading previous books in the series, I want to own the complete series. I really enjoyed reading this book. Craig Johnson always has a complicated plot, and Kindness Goes Unpunished doesn't lack a tiny bit in this department. I can whole heartedly recommend this book.

After being introduced to Walt Longmire on the television series, I couldn't wait to know more about this intriguing character.
I have already read 6 of the books and each one has been everything I could as for in a novel. Compelling, hard to put down and a deep sense of disappointment when it is ended. So i read the next one! Could read about Walt forever!

For those who became familiar with Walt through the TV show "Longmire" ... this mystery gives you a new insight into Vic's character. It is a must read for all the surprises included ... enjoy a different view of the TV characters.

Craig Johnson's third entry in the Walt Longmire series takes us to Philly, where Walt and Henry are visiting Walt's daughter while Henry shows off his historical photo collection. But then Walt's daughter is found comatose, her skull fractured, and a body is thrown from a Philly bridge. Someone is following Walt, then tries to kill him. Moretti flies out to... uh... take care of him. Oh boy, hang on to your hat and your gun. This one's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Craig Johnson has a knack for description and for telling a story. I could use a bit less of the Indian mysticism, but IMHO he's the best new talent to come on the scene in the last few years. Keep 'em coming, Craig.

Walt Longmire is a great, true to life character. I loved the TV series it's first season and this book doesn't disappoint either. If you haven't read one of these books you don't know what you are missing. All of the additional characters are well written and having seen the TV show, I can picture them all while reading the new books.

Twists and turns that you will not see coming! More excitement then there are trees in the Northwest, and you can tell I am hooked on the Longmire story. The characters are realist and absorb pain like you and I. I feel like I am standing in the snow or hearing the bullets whiz by as I read these novels. You just gotta try them....

Sherrif Longmire is such a wonderful hero -- boy howdy, how can you not enjoy reading about the way he handles his job. The author demonstrates through his characters a true understanding of the meaning of justice. His language is often poetic. All of his Longmire books are hard to put down.

As always, Craig Johnson spins a great story of Walt Longmire and his way of solving crime. This time he is in Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love, where Walt encounters the darker side of the city, its people and a crime that comes too close to those he loves. Highly Recommended!

The 5 star ratings I am giving the Longmire mysteries are because of:
the stories themselves. Good contemporary subjects.
the character development and the verbal/mental interplay of the major characters.
the way the author ties each successive novel to the preceding one.

I picked up a book, and was immediately back where I grew up at: Wyoming. Mr. Johnson has it down. Lakes, Rivers, Counties, Highway Patrol, Cheyenne, Rawlins, abutting states, where everything is relative to each other in the state... And, it's a great Mystery / Detective Book at that.

This was another good story told very well. The reason I listed the headline as "Disappointed" was that it took place in Philadelphia. I prefer North-East Wyoming as the setting for these books. If Tony Hillerman had set one of his stories in Los Angeles, I would probably been disappointed in it also.

I liked the other stories much better, I have not read all of them and am not sure that I will. I was totally turned off by the romance of Vic and Walt. It makes it soap opera-ish. The rest of the story was okay but not his best. I love the tv show which is how I started to read the books. I guess I sound like a prude but I am not a fan of complicated relationships involving boss and employee. Takes away from the plot lines and acts like a filler. Just my opinion.

I do enjoy Longmire books and each one gets better and better. I do hope others will find a very good read i this and other Longmire books. I also enjoy the tv show and in some ways there are bits and pieces from different books in the show. Everyone read and enjoy.

I love these books. The characters are so well defined and the humor is great. Also, the descriptions of the Bighorn Mountain area are so vivid. I hope he writes more full books, rather than short stories.

Johnson's clever dialog make his novels come to life. While I much prefer the stories set in Wyoming, the change provided him the opportunity to further develop his well-crafted characters and introduce a few new ones. "Kindness Goes Unpunished" is a winner for Johnson, as are the other books in this series. They are entertaining and smart reads.

This is another excellent story by Craig Johnston, this time set in Philadelphia instead of Northern Wyoming. His main characters, Sheriff Longmire, Henry "Indian Nation" Standing Bear, Cady, Longmire's daughter and Vic the "Holy Terror" are all there, as is the wry, tongue in cheek humor. It's an excellent story that tugged at my heart, what with the Sheriff's daughter in the hospital in a coma due to a head injury, mainly because I could relate to his pain having a daughter of that age myself. But, this is an excellent story with the action paced events, the plot twists, the piecing together of what is really happening, and the exciting finish. It is all there just like Craig's past stories. One thing that I would recommend, for those readers new to Craig Johnson's books, read his other books first. Otherwise you may get lost at the beginning, and get turned off. I can't wait for Craig's next book.

It is no wonder that the author wins awards. These books are going to be classics. I have read the first seven titles in series and as of yet I have found that my "spare time" in totally "reading time."

Every book in this series is absolutely the best reading ever. I can't wait to finish the one that I am currently reading so that I can get to the next one. I wish the series would return to TV as well.

This book was amazing. I was unsure about the Longmire books after having read the first one, but this novel clinched it for me--I love Craig Johnson's novels. His writing style, the attention to detail, the glimpses of emotion . . . fantastic.

Craig Johnson continues to thrill with Walter Longmire and his circle of marvelous characters...best friend Henry Standing Bear, daughter Cady and deputy, Vic take on the city of Philadelphia with one heart-stopping scene after another.

After reading the first two books in the series I felt compelled to continue, and I wasn't disappointed. This installment was both intriguing and far fetched at times, but that's what good fiction should be.
I will continue to read on and hope that Johnson will out do himself, but that seems like it is getting harder to do. I will just have to stay tuned and so will you. I hope

Walt Longmire is such an admireable character and the interaction between the characters is always great. I am always waiting to see what will happen next. The American West with all ists Indian Lore is as much a part of the book as the characters.

I could empathise with the love and feeling the main character has for his daughter and the lengths to which he goes to protect her as well as helping find the person who was responsible for injuring her. Good story and well worth the read.

As always I have enjoyed Henry Standing Bear and Sheriff Longmire, as well as Vic Moretti, I always look forward to the next Sheriff Longmire book. Unfortunately I have read every one and must now wait for the latest.

I didn't know anything about this series of books before the TV show had at least 4 episodes broadcast..That said, I really like what the production company has brought to the game, otherwise it could be dangerously close to being a Western clone of theJesse Stone movie series..THAT being said, I'm rationing myself to one book per month (they are EXTREMELY addictive)because the stories make sense and feel realistic (I personally live in the high desert of Idaho, so the temperatures & climate are authentic)

I so enjoyed this book as Walt waltzed into Philly and didn't change a thing about himself ! He was still the Sheriff of Asaroka County ! I enjoyed the softer side of him as he dealt with Cady and the tragedy there. Good read.

Story takes place in Philadelphia instead of Wyoming, but is really good because it defines most of the characters in the Longmire stories. Explains the relationship between Walt and Vic. Tells of Vic's family.
