I enjoyed the pace of this book and particularly liked the characters. Some of the phrasing I found a little juvenile and some typos the proof readers missed were annoying but overall a good read and I'm about to go buy Book 2.

Warning: spoiler! that said, I wish this had been on the front cover:
Spoiler:
It's about vampires. Dunno why maybe I'm just closed-minded but I can't stand stories about 'em. The rest of the writing is fantastic and engaging, so might not really be an issue for you but for me it's a non-starter. Like the other 1 star I should have read - covenant should have given it away.

Engaging book that pulled me in immediately. Only downside is that finishing it the same day I started - looking forward to next in series. Will definitely be checking out more from this author as well!

It's curious that the Outworlders call themselves Outworlders. They are a group of worlds independently governed who surround the Republic that seems related to old Earth, and is pushing against the Outworlds to expand its Empire. There is seething animosity between these groups. There is another group called the Covenant that seems allied with the Outworlders, but maybe not. So we follow the adventures of Cage who is a Republic soldier with special skills who is wrongfully accused of a crime for which she is sent to Hell, a penal colony. She escapes with friends with a mission to find out what is going on. On the way she gets special powers from the Covenant which give her some spectacular abilities. End book one.

Good character development. Decent, believable dialog between characters. Enjoyable surprise twist that didn't telegraph itself until the end.
I have ordered the second book and read it next, out of my reading que. For me, that speaks very highly of my enjoyment.
Would like it to reference Saddler's Casca rather than where I THINK its going. Thats just a personal favotites wish.

Not overly original but well written. The tech is reasonable and not overly sci fi or unbelievable technobable. The characters are interesting and not too much foreshadowing so you don't know how it ends half way through like some of the other recycled space series.

Cannot wait for the next story. Pulls you in and you don't want to put the book down. Does a good job in building up the characters so they are not traditional stereo types. (well at least explains how they get to be who they are)

A fantastic read! Fast paced, with excellent action and intrigue. The characters have some depth, and while you're definitely guided to chose a side, the author goes out of his way to make sure nobody is purely good or evil. The 'bad guys', are only bad in the sense that they find themselves struggling against the protagonists. They have their own motives and beliefs - which guide them into thinking they are doing the right thing. A fun, light read that I can not recommend enough.

A good read, with soldiers, loyalty, betrayal..., & the start of redemption. I really enjoyed this, finished it after working 12 hours in the Emergency Department, and I'm going to start on Book Two now. Recommended!

Wow, just finished reading and find this an unexpected pleasure. The writing opens a world of good, bad, and somewhere in between. I cannot wait to see where this story goes next, and what happens with the 'rejects'!

While this book gets off to a slightly rough start it ultimately delivers an exciting adventure filled story with hilarious Pros.
World building and character description could use a little more detail. But once you really start digging into the plot it's difficult to put down. Solid four star.

The beginning lacked some explaining as far as the different aliens but it got sorted as I went a long. It reminded me a little of Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with Star Wars. I was so into the story line that I didn't notice I had neared the end and it ended kind of abruptly. I can't wait to get started on the next book!

What starts out as a fairly standard military sci-fi gets some serious plot twists. The tech seems beliavable (for what its worth in sci-fi), and the plot twists have good explanations. The characters have good depth, and moments of introspection. I'd like a bit more depth to the villains, but I'm hopefull this will be forthcoming in the next installment.
But more important, I enjoyed the read and want more. When the book ended I was impatient for more.
