How someone can spend this amount of time writing a book and have it published with so many glaring mistakes amazes me. Another author I read recently stated that mistakes "take the reader out of the story" and that is so true. That is what happened to me very early on when Dan suggested he might have to rappel from and Apache helicopter. Really. The safety "switch" on a gun, a 5.56 Sig 226. He falls off a ladder flat on his back with a gun tucked in the back of his belt, a 737 Jumbo jet? The list is endless and this book was a waste of my time. Unfortunately I cannot not finnish a book and this one was a time bandit. What a shame, all that effort......

Mick Bose’s “Hidden Agenda” is my first novel by him and it does not disappoint. If you enjoy fly by the seat of your pants international conspiracy thrillers that start with a bang, stop here.

Likes: Points above to “international conspiracy thrillers” and says, oh yea. The main character, Dan Roy, and yes, I kept picturing Cruise or Damon in the role, which helped as I was reading the story because the characters were coming to life for me.

Pet peeve: I’m a huge pace of story sort of person and did find that the sequence of shorter sentences were a bit jerky for me at times (sort of like trying to drive a manual transmission without knowing how). So, I ended up skipping over the end punctuation and lengthening the sentences as I read so the speed of the story wouldn’t become a hindrance.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. The action was continuous, the story was compelling, the suspense was the reason why I stayed up last night to finish reading it. In case you didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of stories like these, particularly when there are more.

Many thanks to the author for the copy of the story. I do enjoy reading newer/Indie authors, which I often don’t come across unless I happen to spot an advert on social media somewhere.

Simply Superb. This was such an easy and enjoyable book to read, and so well written. Mick Bose has certainly caught my attention with this very worthy Action Thriller. Dan Roy is a great character that has the skills and background from a Special Forces background, and he’s certainly a character that I would like to read more of in the future. Dan Roy managed to get away from Intercept, the CIA and his previous life in the Delta Forces. As far as he was concerned he was officially retired from that life. So it was quite a surprise when his former boss and handler Major John Guptill turned up asking for Dan’s help. Intelligence was pointing towards a possible attack somewhere in Europe. After Dan is almost killed in London, he agrees to the mission, and travels to Afghanistan. Unfortunately it doesn’t take long for him to realise that something in not quite right. Now someone is also trying to frame him, and get him and his boss out of the way. Then he comes across the Major’s daughter Chloe Guptill, and she’s also being targeted. Now they will both need to find out what’s going on, and try to stay alive at the same time. If you enjoy thrillers that are full of suspense, action and a very clever plot, then you will certainly enjoy this book.

Hidden Agenda: A Dan Roy Thriller: Dan Roy Series Book 1
By: Mick Bose
5 out of 5 stars

The story Hidden Agenda: A Dan Roy Thriller: Dan Roy Series Book 1 by Mick Bose is a thrilling suspense book. There is a global conspiracy that is taking form and Dan Roy uncovers the plot. Now he and everyone around him is in danger. Will he be able to take down those responsible or will he be too late to save the world from destruction? This story is a real page-turner. Once you start you can’t help but wish you could read faster. There is so much action and intrigue you will find yourself getting lost in the story. Once I was on the last page all I could say is “WoW!” Dan Roy is an awesome character. He has the skills to keep foiling any attempts to take him out. He reminds me of the character Jason Bourne. He is lethal with both weapons and his hands. This is the first book I have read by the author and I can say that this is a series it will not be the last. The attention to detail in this book is off the charts and must have taken a lot of time to research. This is a book for anyone who loves thrilling reads that have you on the edge of your seat, dying to know how it all ends. I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited and voluntarily reviewed it.

The author provided this writers addition of this book. The following review was not anyway influence by the manner that I received the copy.

The main two characters are Dan Roy and Chloe Guptill and surrounded by a plethora of scumbags and ex-scumbags. Dan Roy, previously a Special Forces type, now works under the radar in covert assignments. Chloe Guptill is a reporter and daughter of Dan’s mentor. Chloe lost her father early in the book and that is hpw Dan and her meet.

The author drops these characters in well written and captivating mystery involving illegal arms. The mystery has plenty of actions, clues, and red herrings. As Dan and Chloe escape one danger, assassination, after another as they make their way to the final solution.

Don’t worry, with a manly man and young woman there is that fever that bubbles near the surface. After coming together to relieve the fever, the manly man turns tail and blasts off into the sunset leaving Chloe behind to recover from her unquenched fever.

Even though this book is a well written mystery, I can only give it a Four Star review because of the gratuitous violence. If you do not care about the violence, I would strongly recommend the book for your enjoyment; violence etal.

What I liked most about Hidden Agenda was that the story got straight into the action without much time reflecting on what had gone before. Dan Roy is a special operations soldier who works for an elite secretive organisation that brings justice to the bad guys wherever they threaten the lives of good people across the globe. Sounds familiar? And if it does that is exactly what Mike Bose went for, because I see his books appeal to readers, like me, who thoroughly enjoy all the tropes of the genre. Bose really understands what fans of espionage action thrillers wants, and then delivers page after page.

The story starts with a full on military skirmish in the Talibanlands of Afghanistan and the discovery of a secret missile site. I didn’t realise until I was about a quarter of the way through Hidden Agenda that this was a teaser story, an appetiser before the main event. Kind of like a Roger Moore’s James Bond opening pre-title action sequence before the main movie that has nothing to do with the main plot but gets you in the mood for what is to come. I was struck with the level of detail Bose goes into about military methods and arsenal, even though it appears he doesn’t have a military background. I really felt drawn into what was happening ‘outside the wire’ so to speak.

The main story fast forwards to about six month after the intro story. Roy is in London burnt out after too much killing and too many betrayals, but like all good action heroes, the past catches up with him. Soon he’s coerced and manipulated to undertake another mission inside Afghanistan where he is framed for weapon smuggling. Returning to London to clear his name, Roy runs his own ops to find out who set him up and what nefarious schemes the bad guys are up to.

Nicely balanced with investigations and actions, Hidden Agenda is a great introduction into the Dan Roy series. I really enjoyed this one.

When special operations soldier, Dan Roy, seconded to a super-secret black ops agency, stumbles across a secret cache of American weapons in Afghanistan while hunting a high-value target, he’s accused of working with the enemy. When people around him start to die, he discovers a plot to attack America where it hurts. Then, his best friend and mentor is killed, and, working with the dead man’s daughter, Dan sets out to thwart a plot that, if successful, could start World War III.
Hidden Agenda by Mick Bose is a fast-paced action thriller that pits one determined man against sinister forces with a deadly hidden agenda. The action starts white-hot from the beginning, and never lets up until the final pages. This could be a superior action novel, but for the many grammatical and typographical problems throughout. Even with the problems, it’s a fun story for action junkies.
I received a free copy of this book.

Writer is so inaccurate regarding equipment as to kill the story. A "snub nose" with a "suppressor", and a Sig 226 that shoots a 5.56. Oh..and a small suppressed handgun that shoots NATO 7.62. So obviously wrong that it messes up the entire story.

5/2012, Afghanistan Jalalabad Airbase FOB Fenty. Major John “Jonty” Guptill (SFOD-D Squadron A, Afghanistan), & Lieutenant Colonel Jim “Fighter” McBride (JSOC, Ft. Bragg, NC.), were going to have a briefing with Dan Roy (Intercept, retired US Army Ranger, Delta Force, Iraq, Afghanistan).
Mr. Burns (Intercept) was also in attendance.
Dan was accused of holding classified military intelligence materiel.
He exited the DC-10 at the Royal Air Force base in Brize Norton.
Panjwayi (Helmand, Afghanistan). Commander Fatullah Zalaf (former Taliban leader) greeted Mr. Robert Cranmer.

Robert informed Fatullah they never received the vaccines that were aboard the Living Aid truck
Chelsea, England. Dan went to Paradise Walk #32 where Major Guptill lived.
His body was on the bedroom floor.
Later Chloe Guptill (daughter, London Herald journalist) was getting shot at.
Dan managed to get her to safety.
Chloe went to see Simon Renwick (CIA).
Dan had found Simon, he had been shot twice & he might not make it.
The forklift operator was slowly lowering the container # PV 346756 that had arrived from Karachi.
The forklift transporter was fast approaching it.
Will Dan get there in time?
Chloe was making sure Simon got to Chelsea & Westminster Hospital’s Accident & ER.

The Royal Military Police were guarding his room.
As Dan watched on as Robert Cranmer (CIA, aka Michael Burns, aka Felix, assassin), & Yevgeny Lutyenov (Robert’s associate, Russian Spetznaz) get in the truck.
What a surprise they are going to have!

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written global conspiracy thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great global conspiracy thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued? There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

No, Dan Roy doesn’t use steroids, but his toughness and stamina make it seem so. He’s a former Delta Force operator who now works for a clandestine U S Government contractor that isn’t as constrained by the same oppressive rules of engagement that the regular military is. It isn’t that Dan isn’t careful or doesn’t care about collateral damage—he’ll back off when it looks like innocent civilians are in jeopardy—but he doesn’t lose much sleep over accidental operational calamities. As for my Matt Helm reference, Dan is more like the one in the novels, not the Dean Martin movie version. Unlike Dino, Dan is pragmatic and persistent instead of suave and amusing. If Uncle Sam needs something blown up or people killed (it seems like there’s never just one bad guy to contend with) Dan’s your man. Sometimes he works with a team, though, which once made me wonder what he was thinking when he pondered whether they’d be transported on a Black Hawk or an Apache helicopter. I’m thinking it’d be a team of one if an Apache, unless the pilot was also a teammate. I do believe that the eBook I borrowed was from an older version, so perhaps this was corrected.

But I digress. Dan stumbled upon something that only the treacherous bad guys were supposed to see, and was subsequently framed for something else to get rid of him. But Dan, like the Terminator, is hard to get rid of. The descriptions of various small arms and other military weaponry are abundant and for the most part seem accurate, but I question whether either the USAF or the RAF would keep missiles for MiGs on hand. Another foible was when Dan’s borrowed Toyota morphed into a Nissan and then back again. It happened so smoothly that I barely noticed, though. And one-hundred pounds of C4 seemed excessive for what Dan used it for, but what do I know? Despite the picayune technical flaws and occasional typos, which may have been corrected on the later version, it’s a rollicking, action-packed thriller that is well worth reading. I enjoyed it immensely.

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it is a very solid start to a new series (although there is an introductory novella, Hellfire, this is the first full-length novel)
Dan Roy is a great character and his character is extremely well developed in this book, I do really like the fact that although he is a heroic figure, there is still humanity and he isn't as seemingly invincible as some thriller lead characters are!
The plot is clever, although I did struggle a bit with Dan's opponent's motivation (I won't put his name as it would be a bit of a spoiler) and quite original. The action scenes are great, with real 'heart-thumping' moments regularly occurring, and there are plenty of twists and turns.
I am very much looking forward to more books in the series.
I did originally receive a free copy of this book, but I have no other affiliation with the author and voluntarily wrote this review based on my own opinions, but I then bought the book anyway.

Really fun, fast paced book. Dan Roy takes quite a beating in this book and still manages to come out on top.

This was well plotted, well written and fun to read. When a story moves at this pace, it's easy to slip into stereotypes and this story avoids it.

I'll definitely read the next one

This second book took off with an explosion. My cousin was a Green Beret. I never knew how dangerous was his life. Intercept what a spellbinding twisting group. Loved how the story kept you right there.

3RD book. Like the action, they all need more care with editing, Here is sample>

He held the shoe tightly in his hand, and walked over to the groaning survivor. His head was blown off, and his left leg was missing. He would not survive long. Dan had done this before, but today it made him sick to the core. He rolled over a few bodies. It was horrible work.

A chilling story of greed, terrorism and betrayal. Dan Roy finds that his retirement is not an option as he is drawn back into another operation. The writing is crisp and keeps the suspense up while providing all the necessary information. Dan has to use all his capabilities to survive, and eventually uncover the traitor in his organization. The story is thrilling right up to the end, and probably worth another read, even if you know the ending.

Two stories in one here. Both starring a covert ops expert. Dan is the baddest dude out there when it comes to kicking butt and taking names. His old boss and the only person he trusts ends up in a bad way. Dan takes charge along with an unexpected ally and wreaks havoc. Great Read !
