This is an outstanding book for validating introverts. I've searched for years looking for answers concerning issues I've had. This book wraps things up in a very nice package for explaining how and why. I am disappointed at the title as many others seem to be in these reviews. In other words - Where's the advantage? I understand why I do things now and I can work better with my extrovert co-workers, and understand they're side. Before it seemed more of a shot from the hip and no thought other than to beat someone else to the punch with an answer.

So, All said and done - I like the book. I was disappointed that the website in the back of the book in no longer up.

Good luck!!

This book really takes time to help the reader understand the how and why of introverted people. I would recommend it to anyone especially those that new to the concept of introvert/extrovert, those managing people, and most couples.

At times the terminology is hokey but that aside it is well written and organized nicely.

I absolutely "found" myself in this book! I identified with so much & understand myself so much better. It has given me the freedom to say "No" to situations that I know will overstress & overwhelm me. Thank you, thank you for writing this book!

So many a-ha moments, so many explanationans to things ive pondered on or that have subconciously bothered me. This book is a blessing to us introverts because it helps us accept ourselves. And turns our *disadvantages* into a powerful weapon of mass destruction!!

Okay, maybe not mass destruction, but the point is: this book can turn a confused dreamer into a person that has large goals in life, and who pursue these with wicked persistence. And it can turn the socially awkward into a crucial part of the coctail party.

If youre introverted, read it. It will improve your life, one way or another!

This book was very interesting at first but I still don't understand the real tools or advantages to being an Introvert. I did like the part about taking a deep breath and re-centering when you feel overwhelmed. The validation of my reclusive behavior was also nice.

The content in this book is really helping me understand myself more as an introvert. It is a real eye opener and can be helpful for both introverts and those who spend a great deal of time with them.

Not everyone is given to exuberance. Some people are overwhelmed by noise and congestion. This is a very helpful guide to understanding why introverts are different and valuable to a society and a culture.

Wow, this book has changed my life and my marriage. After 40 years my husband understands why I do the things I do and I understand him. It has added a deeper level of mutual understanding. We have a better awareness of each others life patterns something that has confused us. I recommend this book for anyone. It is amazing and helpful to understand a little more of why people act the way they do and how to work or live with them in harmony.

Thank you, Marti Olsen Laney! I opened the book, read a few pages and realized that you had captured my essence perfectly. What a relief to know that my "weirdness" is completely normal and that my introverted nature can actually be used as a position of strength. I've made this a must read for my extrovert husband. No doubt it will shed light on a few perplexing behaviors.

The book is full of information that supports and explains introvert behavior. It's a book every person should read because it helps workers understand their differences and it encourages introverts in an extroverted world.

I've wandered around not really understanding myself and how I've dealt with things. This book has changed all of that, I as an introvert now recognize the signs of being overloaded and have learned much better energy management. Its even helped me better communicate my needs and issues with loved ones.

If you want insight on how introverts think and why they do what they do, this is a great book for you. It also talks about different relationships between introverts and extroverts, for example, an introverted child with an extroverted parent, vice versa, introverted spouse married to an extroverted spouse, etc.

Marti Olsen Laney helps the introvert understand more about themselves than they ever understood before. This book is a real eye opener and excellent for anyone who has ever wondered why others have more energy than they do, why they never seem to completely fit in or why it is that they love people but find being around them for long periods of time becomes exhausting.

I wanted to better understand my temperament, and this book provides some great insight on introverts. The book is designed so that you don't have to read the chapters in order, and it also provides some great tips on navigating relationships and interacting with people that have helped me not feel so guilty about the way that I am.

27 years ago, I married an introvert and several years ago I read this and understood him much more! As a high school teacher for the past 30 years, I have lent this book to both parents and students who were struggling to understand introverts. It is wonderfully thorough and uplifting for introverts who feel odd or alone. This is an extraordinary compilation of introverted facts combined with inspirational quotes. 5 stars!!!!!

"The Introvert Advantage" is my go-to book on anything about introverts. I am an Introvert and because of this book, I finally was able to stop feeling like a round peg in a square hole. A key part of the book is the explanation of the science and physiology (the Introvert's longer neural pathway and damping down Acetylcholine effect on brain chemistry) behind the Introvert temperament, while also addressing the Dopamine-dominant Extrovert temperament. I'm not being willful, lazy, nor pathological that it takes me awhile to shift gears between events, come up with something to say, figure something out, often get easily pooped out by parties, prefer small groups with meaningful conversations (small talk, UGH!) outings with a few friends, and the need to re-charge my energy battery often by solitary pursuits. Really, I'm not lonely nor isolating! This book describes the true differences between Extroverts (outies) and Introverts (innies) and gives concrete suggestions for working with and making the most of the Introvert's longer neural pathway, plus how to more easily get along in the midst of the mostly Extroverted-dominant world around us Introverts, such as pacing energies, setting boundaries and priorities, learning to say more appropriately "yes" and "no" to requests (and demands), and that all-so-important "maybe"! There are many books out there on Introverts, even some very good ones. I found "The Introvert Advantage" to be one of the best of them all. If you're an Introvert, you won't be disappointed.

I learned a lot about myself, and many wrong ideas I had about my not fitting in many social situations. It is encouraging to know there is nothing wrong or broken in me. S a teacher, I would recommend it to others, so that we help these kids who are trying to thrive in a world that certainly privileges extroverts.

The separate pathways in the brain between introvert and extrovert and the corresponding neurotransmitters gave me an aha moment. Introvert dependence on acetylcholine and it's assistance from nicotine made me vow to keep with my nicotine vaporizer. All together an excellent book on living fully as an introvert.

I bought this book for my wife and daughter, both of whom are introverts. Both have stated they really appreciate the information and strategies laid out by the author. If you are an introvert, or lead an office with introverts and want to help them succeed. This book is for you!

Who knew that being introverted was a good thing? This book was recommended by a therapist and really helped me understand that we come in all different shapes (round pegs for square holes- ha). Too bad the world is in LOVE with extroverts- we "innies" have a lot to contribute. Definitely recommended- even to extroverts.

This book has enabled me to move from feeling damaged to feeling strong, knowing who I am, that I have much to offer, and where to go from here. It has taught me how getting time to myself recharges my energy level so that I can go out into the world with the energy I need to be an attribute, a contributor, and to enjoy the experiences I encounter. It teaches how to prepare for the workplace, socializing, and how to be an introvert in an extroverted world. The knowledge in this book is freeing. The author has done a wonderful job imparting all of this and more. Dr.Laney, thank you.

This is a great, affirming book for introverts. I use this with therapy clients. And, as an introvert, enjoyed reading it myself. It is easy to read, but also provides solid research in plain language. It is easily accessible to a wide audience. I have my own copy and plan to get another to loan out.

My 16 year old daughter purchased this book after an initial discussion on introverts (her) and extroverts (me). It was very insightful and helped us to understand and accept each other's "way of being." What killed me was the repeated book references about how many introverts arrive at adulthood with feelings of being inferior - put on them by their parents. THAT'S ME - AND I DID! At least now we are feeling good about each other and accepting of our earlier misunderstandings.

And my daughter is heartened to discover there are other people who can't talk on the phone, who don't have snappy replies, who don't always hear what other people say when someone is talking to them, and all those other typical introvert characteristics.

Easy reading and excellent material, along with plenty of examples to explain the subject matter. I also enjoyed each quote at the beginning of each section of the book. I've shared what I am learning with other innies. This book has enriched my life, boosted my self-confidence and assured me that I am okay.

This book is literally the most useful non-fiction book that I have ever read!
It describes clearly all personal traits of an introvert and address the actions to gain advantage from them. A must read for introverts or evweybody with introverts in their life.

Both these books explained things about myself, an introvert, that I thought few others experienced. More importantly, perhaps, they explained the way extroverts behave and how introverts react! I would have had a much different, much better marriage had I had this book 30 years ago! Since reading them I am able to laugh with my husband in ways I never could before. The struggle to make our marriage work well would have been much less hard had I known all this. My husband, a pastor, is now using them both for marriage counseling. Thank you Marti Laney!

Being 100% introverted myself, I really appreciated this book. (Just how introverted am I? She has a list of 30 common characteristics, and I fit every single one of them.)

It's encouraging and shed a lot of light on several areas of my somewhat gloomy existence. The author goes into detail about all the common personality quirks of introverts and provides possible solutions for surviving the breakneck pace of...well, this extroverted world we live in.

Only things I didn't like were a tendency to repeat a lot of information. Repetition makes it easier to remember, but after the fourth or fifth time, it just gets a bit annoying. Also thought she could have chosen better words in some cases. But then, I'm a writer, so I'm always nitpicky about that. All in all, it's a great book for any introvert who feels like they just can't fit in.

This is an excellent book for anyone who does not feel "part of the crowd" or "in with the in crowd". Wish I had learned about Introverted traits as I was growing up! I love this book easy to read and understand. I have recommended it to soooo many!

Great, easy to read book with simple real insights into the introverts mind. It helps us to know introversion is not bad and how to use it to our advantage and how to deal with others. Great for an introvert or the spouse of one to better understand and improve interactions.

lots of interesting information. slightly excessive protective instinct on introvert needs- but good reminders to not overdo it in an extrovert culture. Also- there are some hints on how to develop the extrovert side of me... i liked it so much i bought a copy for my daughter too.
