Not everyone needs or wants a full-blown field guide to every North American bird, which can sometimes be overwhelming or too detailed. Birds of Indiana is an excellent primer in helping learn about and identify native birds. What could be easier--birds are arranged by color and then by size (small to big). One big picture of each bird (along with a smaller opposite sex insert) on one side of the page is accompanied by pertinent statistics on the other side. Helpful "compare" features pinpoint finer details within a species. I especially enjoy Stan's additional notes about each bird--they provide interesting little tidbits of information readers are likely to remember about every bird they look up. The book is a convenient 4 1/2" x 6" carry-along size.

This may not be a definitive bird guide, but it's a great starting point. As a nice gift for my Indiana friends, I paired this book up with other similar sized field guides like Trees of Indiana Field Guide (Field Guides),Fish of Indiana Field Guide and Birds of Prey of the Midwest Field Guide.

Great birding reference book. I live on a lake in Antioch, IL, and this book has come in quite handy when trying to identify all of the migrating birds that come thru the area. I like the guide is organized by color of the birds.

My friend and I are just learning about the birds in our backyard. Since our recent purchase of Stan Tekiela's Birds of Georgia, we've been able to ID 22 birds so far. We enjoy reading about their habits to make sure we've IDed them properly. We use this book every day and take it on our road trips too. Thank you Mr. Tekiela for enhancing our bird watching so much.

This book was recommended by a local state wildlife officer, in an effort to educate us on the birds we'd encounter, when we purchased our farm in SW Georgia. It's been a fabulous research resource. Photography and details are outstanding!

love the size of the book. very informative, great pictures. I already own this, I bought this new one for my son. He loves bird watching as much as I do. Best of all it is specific, just for Indiana.

An excellent resource for anyone who wants to identify and learn about those wonderful creatures. Excellent sharp photographs and very clear, concise verbiage. I'd recommend it to both beginning and experienced birders.

This book has served me well in identifying birds here in Central Indiana. The color coding helps to quickly find birds based on their plumage coloring. It is a field guide, so the information on each species is limited. You get one picture from each species unless the male and female look different. I would have liked more picture from more angles and in different seasons. For the price you can't complain.

I've purchased several beginner books and it seems only a couple birds end up being in the book. This book is color coded, and easy to follow, with just enough information to identify, no what they eat, what they are attracted to and what season you can spot them. I live on the Southeast side of Chicago along Wolf Lake which borders the Indiana/Illinois border so I decided to give this book a try! I can't tell you how happy I am that I did because just about every bird in this book I have seen in my backyard or in the surrounding wooded areas. For example: I always thought (because I googled It) House Finches were called red headed sparrows. Thank for creating this book I am really enjoying it!!

First, I have not personally used this guide. I ordered it for my daughter who lives in Newnan, GA and she loves it. Without my asking, she reported that it is easy to use: she finds the bird she is looking for easily and says the pictures and descriptions are clearly recognizable.

Super book to take in the field with you. Organized by color to make it very handy. The photos are beautiful and large. I know that Illinois is a big state but it was amazing how many native birds there are. If you love watching birds - this is a must buy.
