I really enjoyed "Hounded", the first book of the series. The character of Atticus was interesting, and I loved the dog! It seemed like most of this book concerned two violent battles. A little blood and guts might be ok, but I am not interested in seeing so much narrative on it.

Books like this one make my Kindle my favorite gadget. I carry it with me for those times when I have to wait in a store or Doctor's office, since it transforms boredom into enjoyment. Kevin Hearne has effected that transformation very efficiently for me. This second book in the series carries the story forward and increases the interest. I hope there will be many more of them.

Another great read! I love Kevin's sense of humor while still telling a good story. I'm not usually into vampires and demons much but they are so well written they really seem to come alive (oops, sorry about that). It seems Phoenix and Mesa haven't changed much in all these years. Thanks Kevin for a trip down memory lane and another wonderful book!

Hey, I like the telepathic dog with the Star Wars and Wizard of Oz quotes! Urban fantasy written by a guy in the 21st century, who would have known.
This is book 2 of a 5+ book series. Excellent character development with a good story. This story pays homage to ALL faiths, not just the Druid faith.
My rating is 4 out of 5 stars but I could be easily be persuaded to go 5 stars.

The second book in the series contains similar elements and plots of the first for continuity. We start to see deepening characters and relationships.
Thor is still universally despised.
The humor and effrontery of Atticus remains the core delight of this series.
I think I'll have to buy the third book now.

anyone that loves sci-fi mixed with just enough reality to make a story seem real will love this series. this is my second time through the series and I'm enjoying it as much this time as the first. if you love the Dresden series I think you'll love these, my only complaint would be they aren't longer stories but I LOVE THEM

Just love Kevin Hearne. He makes me laugh and think without much melancholy. He is a joy to read. Cannot wait for the next book in this series I will say that he is way out there mixing the religious parthenons. He takes you to other worlds while staying right here on earth. Great fun.

This series is a quick and often amusing break from some of the other books I often read.
The interactions between the differing mythological deities is amusing.
Anyone who reads the Dresden series series might find these a good change from their often predictable path.
I am currently reading book three of the series and it is going well.

A good storyteller. Love the twist of his relationship with Oberon. (Irish Wolfhound) Some pretty humorous stuff mixed with the dangers of the plot. Maybe a bit less interesting than the 1st book but still a good escape read.

Kevin Hearne is one of new, favorite authors. He writing is hilarious, fresh and informative. There is a lot of mythological and historical tidbits thrown in, which may or may not be entirely accurate - but that's why it's called fiction and not nonfiction.
I think if people try to base their own personality and perspective on Atticus (who is our main character in the series); they will be easily confused by what could be seen as contradictions, but really, we don't know him very well yet. My advice would be to let the character unfold as the series progresses because Atticus is not your typical "hero". He's got lots of flaws, he's a bit of an ass, he's kind and protective, his first loyalty is to the earth and second to humans and yet he's rash when defending them - but that just makes him interesting puzzle.
Oberon, the doggy sidekick, is fantastic and I want an Oberon of my own. If Mouse (and wouldn't that be awesome if we could hear his thought process too!), from Jim Butcher's, Dresden Files, had a slightly silly cousin - that would be Oberon.
I'm more than happy to keep reading and getting to know what makes Atticus tick. So keep writing, Kevin Hearne!

Smart, witty, fast paced, funny... it’s an easy read that goes by quickly, leaves you wishing for more. Highly recommended if you liked book 1. If you haven’t read book 1, what are you waiting for?

Great humor, light hearted and linear, well written, no bug surprises, it's like a good tv series. I worry I might get bored with the "Druid always wins" style ... But for now this series is a fun treat to read.

Based on other reviews, and on the recommendations in the blogs of another author I follow, I ordered this series.
One of my friends was visiting and picked up the series. I had the torment of her 1) refusing to put it down and 2) laughing throughout the evening, and 3) taking the series home with her so she could read the whole thing.
As I hadn't started it, I let her. I got it back the next weekend, started reading it, and also didn't want to put it down.
The main character is funny and believably intelligent, and his actions well-reasoned. It runs on the characterization. The interactions with other characters make him a real person in your head, one you care about. I can appreciate someone who throws in quotes from Shakespeare, because he memorized it all - in one book, there is even a quoting "duel."

Great mix of humor, action, intrigue, sex, romantic developments and philosophy. This installment sets up an interesting alliance with the "nice" witches, significantly deepens the bond with the Morrigan, and paves the way for an Asgard raid, or two...

Mr Hearne knows his mythology. He knows FA about WW II, it seems. Or cares. Worse. Boris III wasn't nice. At all. He did not give a f*** about the jews deported from Thrachia or Macedonia. Why should he? T&M were under Bulgarias heel, the fewer the better. He was a good friend of Mussolini AND Stalin. Soviet Union, not Russia then. The Polaks were happier the fewer jews there were. (And anyone who thinks Churchill starten WW II to help Poland OR the jews should check their facts. Yes he did; he declared war on September 3 1939. And he refused to help Finland when Stalin invaded whitout declaring war, on November 30, 1939.) The various resistance movements, largely communists, fought the Germans, but did not start helping others, until Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt made their pact. Saving the jews was not a first priority for anyone. And, Hey! Let us not forget that approximately 50 million other people died too. At a low count, and not counting the 30-50 million Soviet citizen Stalin polished off on his own. Before, during and after. The World deserved the Cold War.
I would have given 1 star, or 0, if not for Leif and Hallbjörn. And the facit that Mr Hearne does know the difference between an adjective and an adverb. I am not quite sure about the subject (nominative) and objects (accusative, dative or genitive), but then, very few people with English as their mother tunge seem to, the se days. I am giving this series one more chance, that is all.

This is the work of a master of storytelling. Light, earthy, humorous and extremely satisfying. The characters are engaging and you definitely need to start reading it on a day you can finish it. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Great book! Keeps you wanting to read until the end. And then you need to get the next book in the series because you need to know what happens next. Characters are amazing and although there are a lot of them, they are made to feel like you've known them forever.
A must read!

I couldn't stop thinking how this writer was able to bring all myths into one story both in the first book and this as well as show respect for all modes of faith in the preservation of the earth and humanity. Well done.

Thoroughly enjoyable, well-written and well-researched books with an interesting premise. I am more than happy to give Kevin Hearne a 5 star rating in addition to purchasing everything he has published. I hope many others discover the fun adventures of The Iron Druid and a very entertaining cast of characters. However, the reader must jump through a mandatory hoop if you choose to leave a rating. Star ratings are not acceptable on their own. No, any star rating is booby-trapped with the requirement of a written review, further weighted with a minimum word count, no less! Write a review or no stars from you. This is a tad bit bit onerous for the buyer who enjoyed reading the book and respects the author enough to pause and tap some stars. The demand for written review effectively prevented me from posting the 5 star rating that might encourage others to enjoy an excellent book. This is ultimately unfair to Mr. Hearn, undoubtedly depriving him of many well-deserved 5 star ratings. Guilt eventually caught up with me, so herein lies not only my enthusiastic support of this book, but a bonus review of a misguided policy: to the Kindle folks or whoever came up with this Either/Or toll: lighten up on the needy/greedy gate keeping, already.

Hearne has gotten my interest. This book has a bit of a new twist on the fantasy books. The main character is not always predictable, and he has an air that is humble and strong. I find myself getting caught up in the characters. I like the way the female apprentice has gone from another pretty face to a woman of substance.

Very enjoyable. The character development and their dialog throughout the story was enjoyable. The author really does a good job at balancing the "darker" plot moments with witty comments sprinkled in here and there.

Hounded was great - a surprise in every good way. Hexed is even better! I love the historical details and literary quotes. Hearne isn't just showing off his English degree with them, they add depth to Atticus's character and, pause for gasp, are completely relevent. Oberon's obession with each new bath story adds humor in a very clever and intelligent fashion. I'm really looking forward to Hammered. Keep going, Hearne!!
