It's unfortunate that I just simply couldn't get into this book. After several goes at reading it I had to give in and move on to something else. Probably just me and others will enjoy it but I just couldn't get into it.

I very much enjoyed reading Seven Years to Sin. Jessica is a widow, looking to overcome her grief and move forward with her life. To start, she decides to travel to Jamaica to deal with her property there. Alistair has long been infatuated with Jessica and when Jessica boards one of his ships to travel to Jamaica, he decides it is the perfect opportunity to make his move. Neither could anticipate the depth of emotion in their attraction, which began seven years earlier, and neither wants to see the inevitable end of that attraction...
Part of why I really enjoyed Seven Years to Sin is the erotic nature of the romance. For a historical novel, the romance is pretty hot, heavy, and bold. On Jessica's wedding day, she witnesses an erotic sexual encounter that awakened her sexual appetite, and that appetite simmered for seven years until she met Alistair again, but this time she was free to act on the attraction. The society restrictions of the 1800's are still in place, but with the setting being primarily on a boat in the middle of the ocean, those restrictions are more relaxed, allowing the characters to be more bold in their actions. Once Jess and Alistair have to re-enter society, they find that nothing is easy, and their circumstances are not what they thought at all.
Each of the characters have their own issues to overcome. For Jess, this is overcoming her past abuse and this issue gives the story a great deal of depth. Violence against women is a very serious topic, and I imagine that in the 1800's women who were victims were often desperate and with out help at all. Just when Jess thinks she is doing better at putting her past abuse at the hands of her father behind her, she finds that her sister is dealing with abuse. Hester (Jessica's sister) has an entire story liner herself in this novel, and I really felt for her and her situation. While Jess is off having her hot romance, Hester is home living in terror and desperation. The way these stories combine creates for a very well rounded book, it is not a frivolous romance story, and has a sense of realism and believability.
Overall, I really liked Seven Years To Sin, it is a well written and developed story full of sensual romance and provoking plot twists. Alistair is a wonderful historical hero, the type of man who defy's expectations and succeeds in whatever he does. Jessica is a woman who must put aside her past to embrace her future. Together, their story is beautiful, romantic, and a very good read.

If you like romance with a heaping helping of various abuses, this book is for you. Ms. Day Is a terrific writer and I highly recommend everything else she's ever written, but not this one. I read romance to escape from everyday life, not to read about child abuse and spousal abuse. The alcoholism was minor, thank goodness, but then we top off this mess with a miscarriage.
Another major ICK factor was the prologue, in which our Innocent Heroine sees our future hero having sex with an older woman for money; he gestures for her to stay and watch to increase his enjoyment. She doesn't want to be caught, so she stays. Maybe I'm quirky, but I think that's disgusting, and I just couldn't stomach their later romance.
Instead of loving this book, like I have everything else she has written, I only skimmed it--couldn't wait for it to be over. Seriously, read any other book or story by Sylvia Day, but skip this one.

Oh, my goodness! Sylvia Day had done it again. These stories of ne'er-do-wells who finally make their place in the world always intrigue me. When I thought that there was no way possible for this book to end well, Sylvia Day worked her usual magic. This book I recommend to any one who likes plot twists that are carefully engineered. The time I spent reading this novel was pure enjoyment.

This is a delightful story of second chances. With a heroine that embraces her independence in a time of repression and a hero that isn't afraid to open up his heart to love.
Jessica was known as the Diamond of the Season, beautiful beyond measure but appearing cold and reserved, a perfect wife for a future Earl. One secretly witnessed deviant scene of inflagrente delicto later and her whole life is changed. Intrigued to discover the art of love making, she begins her life with her husband Viscount Tarley, fully grasping her womanly desires and passions.
Alistair Caulfield is the fourth born son to Duke Masterson. He is an infamous rake and risk taker. Circumstances have allowed him to live a life filled with adventure and minimal responsibility. After being caught in a very compromising position, he does his best to avoid Jessica. On that fateful day, he saw something in her that captivated him. The only thing he could do was to run away from the temptation of her. So Alistair ran fast and far.
Seven years have passed and tragedy has taken Viscount Tarley from Jessica, she is ready to move on. Her husband Benedict ensured his wife would want for nothing and bequeathed her a plantation in Jamaica. She has always desired the freedom to travel and now has the opportunity. Unknown to her, Alistair is also moving on and she just happens to be his target.
Seven Years to Sin was new and exciting for me. I found the writing clear and concise with no predictability. The plot was flawless and the characters were enchanting. Ms. Day's addition of the subplot of Jessica's sister, Hester, was included brilliantly and didn't distract from the story. Her future seems bright compared to her rather dismal past. I found myself grinning after the epilogue.
I enjoyed tagging alone on the sea voyage to Jamaica and the journey of their eventual lives together. It was wonderful to see Alistair falling head over heels in love, obsessed but still fighting it. Jessica was pure heaven. Her healing was well described and her self-discovery was believable and a joy to read.
Ms. Day wrote a well thought out book and then proceeded to add spice and adventure. She wrapped all the loose ends expertly and left me sated and satisfied. I was up until wee hours in the morning reading and I had to force myself to stop. After finishing the book I immediately checked out her website. If her backlist is half as good as Seven Years to Sin then she is a keeper.

THE WRITING
When I first realized my love of adult romance, I devoured any and all historical romance that I could get my hands on. I learned pretty early on that sex scenes in historical love stories could go really downhill, really fast. I’m one of those HR junkies that abhors purple prose and flowery love scenes and eventually hit a dry spell. But when I had seen that notorious erotic romance writer Sylvia Day had written a historical romance series, well, I was too curious to pass up the opportunity to get this book virtually free on Paperbackswap.
Months later, when I finally opened Seven Years to Sin to read the first couple of pages, I didn’t actually mean to sit down and read for two hours. I just meant to peek in and save it for in the morning, but Day caught me unaware in a web of sneakily addictive writing that I didn’t even realize she had a talent for. Before I knew what was going on, I was a hundred pages in and it was 1 am and I was supposed to be asleep hours ago. What I am trying to warn you romance junkies is to make sure you actually have the time to sit down and devour this book, because otherwise you’ll end up confused as to how the time had passed and completely forget what you were supposed to be doing!
THE STORY
Like many historical romances, Seven Years to Sin has a character driven plot but the realization didn’t deter from my love for this book. I enjoyed every character in this book, from the main characters, to the secondary characters – and yes, even the bad guys. A big theme in this story is overcoming abuse and betrayal from those who are supposed to put your safety first. This is a common theme in romance, but this is a common issue in modern times and historical, so I found Seven Years to Sin to be surprisingly heart-wrenching for all characters involved.
Another central theme of this story was overcoming upbringing. Jessica and her sister, Hester, were raised by their serious and often abusive father. They were both shaped into two very different, but caring women who dealt with the abuse in different ways. It was fascinating to see how different their lives were all throughout the novel, and how difficult it was for them to shed the past in growing as characters. They weren’t the only characters that had some growing to do – I noticed all the important characters did some growing as the novel progressed (well, most of them) and it was something I appreciated as a reader.
THE CHARACTERS
What impressed me the most about Seven Years to Sin was how seamlessly Day connected all the characters. It was believable and pretty realistic. Was the plot all that realistic? Not really (but historical romance hardly ever is), but I really enjoyed how everyone in the book had a role in adding dimension to each other. Everyone in my life has shaped me into who I am in one way or another, so I love how realistically the author wove them all together. I liked how big a role the parents had in making Jessica and Hester and even Michael, Allistair, and Lord Remington (even if he was a bast***) because let’s be honest, we wouldn’t be who we are – good or bad – with some help from who raised us.
Jessica was the strongest character of them all. She learned early that being herself wasn’t beneficial to surviving in her household, so she allowed her father to shape her into the perfect “genteel” woman, all the while knowing that no matter what society said about her, she was far from perfect. It was so awesome to watch her transform from this masked, frigid woman to a sensual beauty unafraid to acknowledge her less-than-proper desires for Alistair. Jessica is one of the hottest heroines I’ve ever read and can totally see myself re-reading this book just for Jessica and Alistair sexy times.
Gah, Alistair. He was sexy, heroic, heart-wrenching, and so damn wicked. I can totally see the appeal of this man. He doesn’t even realize quite how much of a catch he is. Selfless enough to set out on his own so his mother wouldn’t be torn between her jerk of a husband and her own son, wicked enough to find a way to use his looks for profit, moral enough to leave England for seven years so he wouldn’t tarnish her loving marriage. He’s incredibly self-confident (as well he should be) in the bedroom but also has the self-esteem issues of a chubby teenager. Basically a well-developed character that gives off an “awwwhhh” effect while also incinerating panties. Everything this romance junkie loves in her heroes!
THE END
If you hadn’t already guess, I’m a big fan of Seven Years to Sin. Once again, a newfound favorite that I regret waiting so long to read. Ah well, can’t change the past, but I correct the future so I’ve already purchased another book in this stand-alone series. I recommend fans of erotic romance to try out Seven Years to Sin. Even if you’re an erotic romance fan that doesn’t read historical romance, this book is well worth stepping out of your comfort zone. You will not regret it!

This isn't normally the type of book I go for and I've never read a Sylvia Day book before; I don't normally go for straight-up erotica like that. That's kind of what I was expecting here, but truth be told, this book DID have a story and it had quite interesting and compelling characters also. As much as I wanted to write it off and dislike it (don't really ask me why, I'm not sure), I couldn't.
When I read this, I was going to be moving in 3 days, almost none of my apartment was packed yet (and let me tell you, I have A LOT of things), however I started the book and then could not put it down and get things done until I was finished.
This book took me on an emotional journey, that's for sure; there were points where my heart literally hurt for the H/H and the only thing that allowed me to keep calm and keep reading was that it was a romance book, therefore I KNEW there would be a HEA.
The hero easily made it onto my "Best Heroes Ever" list. He was just so ... delicious. OMG was Alistair delicious. The way he adored Jessica; the feelings he had for her; his practical obsession with her - was enough to make me swoon, let me tell you.
I liked Jessica as well and thought their pairing was an interesting match; very unconventional, but Day made them fit. The premise of their relationship was really weak - one of those "something in her/him called to me" - but whatever, I don't care. Alistair made the whole thing worth it!!!
There is a secondary romance, which I know some people (including myself usually) don't like, however I thought it was quite a sweet one. It involves Jessica's sister and her brother-in-law, who is also Alistair's best friend.

This is a well written, well edited historical romance. I enjoyed the storyline of a young man, Alistair, who has been in love with a slightly older lady since he met her just before her wedding to another man. Jessica also thought him interesting and attractive, but was happy with her husband until his death from consumption six years later. After her year of mourning, she decides to take a trip to clear her mind, and inspect the sugar plantation that her husband willed to her. The ship she books passage on is owned by Alistair, who jumps at the chance to be able to spend weeks on a ship with Jessica, finally getting to court her, but also help her if she needs it since he owns the neighboring plantation.
This author is known for the steaminess of her books and her historicals are no different. While the scenes are well written, I sometimes think that the characters' explorations of their sexuality within their relationships often overshadows any other plot devices. In this story, Jessica, Lady Tarley, is a widow who goes to see the sugar plantation that her husband left her in his will. Much is made of this being an unusual bequest and of her wanting to make independent decisions about the property, such as whether or not to use slaves or to free them and pay them a wage, whether to sell it altogether, etc... but once she arrives on the island, all we read about is her love affair with Alistair, and never again is the plantation or it's decisions mentioned. We are told that they can talk about anything and know all each other's secrets, but readers are privy to far fewer conversations than sexual encounters.
The other component of Jessica and Alistair's love story is a common history of poor self esteem and a belief that they are unworthy of love. Jessica grew up in a home, even as the daughter of a Marquess, where she was physically and emotionally abused; Alistair where he was emotionally abused. Their love for each other finally allows them to feel secure for the first time. Even though Jessica was relatively happy with her first husband, she always felt the need to behave in a very "proper" way or risk losing his approval. With Alistair, she can be herself and Alistair feels he's finally got someone who loves him despite his past mistakes. Jessica's sister, Hester has a secondary storyline and there are domestic and sexual abuse issues within it as well. (A heads up for those with trigger issues.)
Overall, I liked the characters and the story. I don't mind some steaminess in a book, but I prefer character development and plot over a multitude of sex scenes. 3 1/2 stars.
Heat factor hot.

I read this book as part of my RARE Event reading challenge. I think I am one of the few romance lovers that haven't read any Sylvia Day's books till the moment, but in my defense I have to say that I am always afraid to read authors that are very popular. Though in this case I am really happy I read Seven Years to Sin because it reconnected me with my love for Victorian romances.
The story is wonderfully written, Day's writng style reminded me of a mixture of Lisa Kleypas and Nora Roberts, two of my favourite authors. Seven Years to Sin is a book full of unexpected twists, the main plot hooks you from the very beginning but the subplots are the basis that make Jess and Alistair's story reliable. There is a lot of sexual tension in the whole book and it come from everywhere not just from the main couple. Thruth to be say, with such a hot man as Alistair I don't know how the book didn't combust from the sexual power. Seven Years to Sin is a historical romance with touches of contemporary romance since I missed more historical facts and dates to portray the whole setting of the novel.
I really liked that it is not the typical historical romance where the heroine is a helpless virgin and the hero is a flawless gentleman. I loved all the dark secrets around Alistair and the hidden desires Jess had without her realizing it. I would give a 10 out of 10 to the characters, even the secondary ones are perfectly described. There were even times when I wanted to read more about Michael and Hester than about Jess and Alistair. The sex scenes were hot but in the end I kind of was tired of them, half book is about sex, which I like reading about but in the end I was more interested in their feelings than in their sexual encounters.
Seven Years to Sin is the perfect mix of a historical novel and a contemporary romance story full of sex, mysteries and unexpected twists. It is the perfect book for romance addicts looking for a hot hero and a determined heroine fighting for their future in an England full of social constrains.

First off, I’m a huge fan of this author. I can’t believe I’ve left this sit on my TBR pile for over two years. Sylvia Day is well known for her Crossfire Erotic Series but this book has so much more than erotica. It delves deeply into the aftermath of child abuse and also marital physical abuse. It is very romantic and is one of those books where you want to underline and commit passages to memory. Alistair is very flawed but very heroic. Jessica is damaged by childhood abuse but very loving and adventurous. Hester, Jessica’s sister is married to an abusive husband and this side story is very moving. Yes, there is an abundance of sex in this story, but it is all relevant to the story. Accomplished writers can write good sex scenes and if you want to read a master then this is the book for you.
I really can’t rate this book high enough. I would give it a 10 if I had the chance.

I did not have high expectations for this book at all. Maybe because I have never read historical romance. Who knows? I was very mistaken. This book was sooooo good! I loved it! This will not be my last historical romance.
Let me just say I loved Bared To You, but I loved Seven Years To Sin even more. This is the book that inspired Bared To You and I can see some similarities. This book has the main story of Alistair and Jess, but also has a side story that involves her sister, Hester. While I loved the storyline and romance between Alistair and Jess. I was completely on edge and obsessed with Hester's storyline. She is in a abusive marriage and also pines for her good friend, Michael. Michael also harbors deep feelings for her. I felt their pain and heartache completely.
"I danced my first waltz with you,"
" My feet are still recovering, I fear."
"I followed your lead flawlessly!"
"Don't you remember?"
"As if I could ever forget any moment when you'd been in my arms,"
I LOVED THEM!!! So let me just say I wish they could have their own book because there is so much more to their story to tell. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has never read historical romance and wants to give it a go! I will be reading Sylvia's other books for sure!

I def should have read a sample before I bought it. I can't follow the language in the book. I was super excited to get it and I only read 3 chapters. I really wish I could return it. Such a waste of money.

-- A Romantic Book Affairs Review
Rating: A ... Heat: Sizzling
The night before Jessica Sheffield is to be married, her pug Temperance leads her on a merry journey through the woods to find the perfect spot to piddle. Said spot happens to be near a gazebo--one that is... quite occupied. When the moon reveals to her who exactly is fornicating in said gazebo, her startled gasp catches Alistair Caulfield's attention.
From the moment that their eyes lock, something within both of them changes. Jessica is awakened to desires and urges she never knew existed. Alistair is captivated and consumed by a woman he cannot have. And the memory of that moment will haunt them both for seven years.
Jessica Sheffield has been hidden away behind a mask of propriety and manners and expectations. The whole of her life has been dedicated to being a proper daughter and a dutiful wife. When she boards Alistair's ship to Jamaica, Jess is free to become the woman she has long hidden. And that woman is delightful. Fiery and strong. Wanton. Jessica really comes into her own after a lifetime of being who others expect her to be.
Alistair Caulfield stole my heart. And my panties. He pretty much oozes sex from his pores--the man is all things virile. I think he may even have carnality in his very bones. But even though his machismo is very potent stuff indeed, that is definitely not all there is to him. Alistair is compassionate and stoic and... patient. Jessica manages to stir up longings and desires in him that really squeezed at my heart. I loved watching a man who puts most of his self-worth on his prowess between the sheets simply... unravel... under the force of her love for him.
One of my favorite things about this couple is how there was never any indecisiveness on either Jessica or Alistair's sides. It was never a matter of if they want each other or if they'll give in to their passions. The lack of angst was refreshing and very, very welcome. I like that Jessica was no simpering miss, fretting over her attraction to Alistair. She wants him, he wants her, they just have to figure out how to make it work.
Which is not to say that their journey is easy. They both have obstacles, internally and externally, to overcome. Jessica and Alistair have both suffered at the hands of their parents. Jessica, physically. Alistair, emotionally. It was deeply gratifying to see them come together, to voice their demons, and to find acceptance for them in one another. It felt very honest and true. And added dimension and layers and meaning to their relationship.
Seven Years to Sin is as sensual as it is sexual. It manages to stir your heart as it heats your blood. Miz Day has written Jessica and Alistair's story so beautifully. It was filled with such deep emotion that you can't help but become invested in all the characters. I loved this book. Plain and simple. And I'm already eagerly anticipating a reread--I simply didn't want to leave these characters and their world.
Favorite Quote:
"If I could," he went on, "I would remain like this indefinitely--clasped by you, held inside you, a part of you--without moving at all. When we make love, I fight climax with everything I have. I don't want to come; I do not want it to end. No matter how long I make it last, it isn't nearly long enough. I am furious when I cannot hold back any longer. Why, Jess? If all I seek is the physical relief of natural lust, just as I would seek sleep or food, why would I deny myself?"
She turned her head and caught his mouth with hers, kissing him desperately.
"Tell me you understand," he demanded, his lips moving beneath hers. "Tell me you feel it, too."

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales
Quick & Dirty: A tantalizing tale of lovers who have been apart too long. Steamy scenes ahead!
Opening Sentence: There was something irresistibly exciting about watching athletic males engaged in physical combat.
The Review:
I've been a fan of Sylvia Day for several months now. When I had the opportunity to read Seven Years to Sin, I was beyond excited. I've only read Day's contemporary work, and to get the chance to read her historical work? Excitement! I was always a fan of how Day wrote about relationships and their attraction. In the large sea of romance writers, Day stands out for me. She has a way of writing about these relationships, and in Seven Years to Sin, it's another great example of that talent.
Seven Years to Sin follows the life of Lady Jessica Stanfield Tarley, who married into the Tarley family. With the recent passing of her husband, she has been granted her own property in Jamaica. Her husband's good friend Alistair Lucius Caufiel has sanctioned a journey aboard his ship, to properly escort and guide Jessica, as well as protect her. They have a history, and while on their oceanic voyage, the opportunity to rekindle unspoken tension arises. Alongside unspoken tension, there are also secrets from their past that they must overcome. But the question is will they be able to before their journey ends?
Jessica is someone who has had it all, or so we think. But her life comes to a halt with the passing of her husband. Jessica was happy, content, and living a life that many would have loved to have. In the present, she is overshadowed by a memory and feels the guilt of moving on. I found out so much about her, of who she secretly was, filled with lust and passion. She took control of the relationship between herself and Alistair, and allowed for her instinct to kick in. Jessica never wanted to be perfect, she just wanted love that was perfect for herself.
Alistair was running away from his problems. He has secrets of his own, never allowing his true self to be out in the open. In public, he was the perfect son for his mother, despite who she was married to. He kept his feet on the ground, and always, always embraced the unexpected. Alistair, for the most part, has held on to his integrity, but it wasn't until he was with Jessica that he let his true self shine. Alistair allowed Jessica to accept who he really was, his past, and hoped for a future.
The chemistry between Jessica and Alistair was hot and filled with sexuality. It was what I would expect from a historical romance. I felt that the beginning dragged a little, but sometimes I feel that way when there's a story to be set up. There was more than just steamy scenes, and I appreciated that. I enjoyed having a hero and a heroine at different times, and definitely enjoyed the fact that these characters were flawed.
Day knows how to write attraction and passion, as well as developing heartbroken and damaged characters. The characters in Seven Years to Sin have a broken past and a meek present, but Day knows how to bring the story towards a happy ending.
FTC Advisory: Kensington provided me with a copy of Seven Years to Sin. No goody bags, sponsorships, "material connections," or bribes were exchanged for my review.

What can I say? I didn't realise Sylvia Day had written so many books, but after reading the first two novels in the Crossfire series, I definitely wanted to read more! I wasn't disappointed with this book. This book captivated me from the very beginning. It was another intense male to swoon over!
At Bec's Book Blog, you can see my full review as well as pictures of who I think would be perfect to play Alistair if this book were ever made into a movie!
On Goodreads the author Sylvia Day says:
The idea for Bared to You came to me shortly after writing Seven Years to Sin, which also deals with a couple recovering from difficult pasts. In some ways, Bared to You feels like an extension of Seven Years to Sin to me, even though they're set 200 years apart...
I am not normally into reading historical fiction but this one kept me interested. It has that bad boy and the sweet female main characters who I enjoyed reading about.
After Jessica has an intense encounter with Alistair (she watches him sell his body for money) on the day before her wedding the two of them are bound together forever. Although she has a happy and fulfilling marriage her husband unfortunately passes away and this allows the real story to begin.
I read this story in two days and it had me hooked from the start. Most of the other books I've been reading lately are part of a series and this book also has some of the characters overlap with her other historical romance books according to Sylvia Day's website.
I'm giving this book Seven Years to Sin 4.5 stars because it's a great read and kept me interested. I'm definitely reading her other books

Jess spent many happy years married to her husband before she became a widower but she never forgot the night that she saw Alistair locked in a passionate embrace with a married woman. She has mourned her husband for a year and is finally ready to face the world again and what better way to start than by travelling to Jamaica to visit the plantation she inherited. Alistair has a reputation as a ladies man and a rake but the one woman who he ever cared for was the one who was beyond his reach. But now Jess is travelling on one of his ships he sees it as the perfect opportunity to finish what they started all those years ago. He will do whatever it takes to bring Jess's passionate side to the surface.
As a massive fan of Sylvia Day's Bared to You series and a lover of historical romances I couldn't resist reading Seven Years to Sin. This is supposed to be the story that inspired Bared to You but I have to admit I didn't find as many similarities as I expected to. Even so I am happy to say that I absolutely loved Seven Years to Sin and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves erotic romance novels.
Jess is a great character and I loved the fact that she isn't a shy virgin or someone who had an unhappy marriage. Her arranged marriage with Benedict may not have been the most passionate but they both loved each other deeply and had a good life together before his death. Devastated as she was by his loss Jess is slowly rebuilding her life on her own, thankfully Benedict left her financially secure which gives her the freedom to do as she chooses, something she intends to make the most of by travelling. Before her marriage Jess had a very unhappy childhood at the hands of an abusive and controlling father and she won't risk ending up in a similar situation by being forced to marry again. For years memories of Alistair have haunted her and when he makes his move she finds him impossible to resist.
As the fourth son of an Earl Alistair has been allowed to live his life as he pleases, he spent his time building a successful business but also seduced more than his fair share of women. In spite of the fact that he is so successful he has always felt like a disappointment to his father and they have a very strained relationship. Alistair has been half in love with Jess for seven years and there is no way he is going to miss this chance of proving to her that they belong together. Although Alistair has a naughty streak a mile wide he is also incredibly sweet and caring when it comes to Jess, he will do anything to make her happy and he always puts her needs above his own. The couple have scorching hot chemistry that burns up the pages but they also have a deep emotional connection and I loved watching the way they both helped to heal each other.
I couldn't get enough of Seven Years to Sin and was sad to reach the end - I loved Jess and Alistair both individually and as a couple but I also loved the side story with Jess's sister Hester. As soon as I finished I wanted to turn back to the first page and start reading it all over again and I don't think it will be too long before I end up re-reading it (if you had any idea how rarely I re-read books then you'd understand what a high compliment that is!). I became a fan of Sylvia Day when I read Bared to You but this has just proved to me how much I love her writing style, she is able to create characters I am emotionally connected to and I always feel invested in their stories. I am now planning on working my way through her back list and can't wait to see what else she has in store for me! If you're looking for a raunchy and erotic historical romance then Seven Years to Sin is one I would highly recommend. Even if you don't usually pick up historical romances I'd still recommend this book - especially to fans of Bared to You.

If you haven't read Seven Years to Sin you need to buy this book...like now! Seriously, it was amazing and ohmygoodness through the damn roof sexy! The characters were wonderful, the passion between them absolutely took my breath away and was incredible to watch and the secondary storyline grabbed my heart and had me near tears. All the way around this was just a damn fine read that'll have a permanent spot on my favorites list.
There's a lot more to Alistair and Jessica than meets the eye and they quickly became one of my favorite couples. The rhythm and flow between the two was beautifully written and just felt right. And these two seriously heat up the pages with a little tie me up action, some role playing and a whole lotta dirty talking that'll leave you panting for more. Lordy it was good!
I really just loved the characters and watching their journey with each other. They didn't play games which was really refreshing. Alistair definitely won me over. He's crude and honest in a bone meltingly delicious way that I just couldn't resist. Jessica was wonderful as well and other than briefly wanting to strangle her I really enjoyed her character.
The secondary storyline, involving Jessica's sister, was surprisingly dark but very well written. It's definitely one that'll pull at your emotions and that would have made a fantastic full length novel. [That's really my only complaint...that Seven Years to Sin is a stand-alone and not a series.]
I'm so glad I picked this book up. Day is an incredibly talented writer and put me through the wringer with all the emotions she pours into her characters and their lives. It was quite an experience and will have me reading more of her books in the very near future. I'd absolutely recommend this one to anyone who loves historicals with a lot of heat and that enjoys a story whose main focus is on the characters and their relationship.
***Aannnnd I'm gonna rant a little... Now, I'm not holding it against the book rating wise but I absolutely loath the new cover for Seven Years to Sin. I am so blasted tired of publishers (or whoever makes the decisions) trying to make everything look like Fifty Shades. It really drives this reader up a wall and is such a huge turn off. I much prefer the original cover where you can actually tell it's a historical. If I'd seen the new cover I would have kept right on going because of the attempt to draw the Fifty Shades crowd. A huge disservice to Day who is a fabulous writer on her own. Gah! Okay rant over***

Did I like this book?
Hmm... let's see if this answers your question.
I started it late Monday night and was finished by early Tuesday evening. It was that damn good!
I've known about Sylvia Day for awhile now, even before her novel Bared to You was published. However, like a lot of other authors her books got pushed to the side. Well her books got pushed aside until I saw that this one was available for review from NetGalley.
I love historical romance and when I read the blurb that this was the novel that inspired the author to write her afore mentioned book Bared to You I just had to request it and, as you can tell I really, really, really enjoyed it!
As soon as I started reading this book I noticed that Sylvia Day paid excellent attention to the tone and the speech patterns of her characters. Often times in historical romance novels the characters talk as you and I would. Anybody, who knows anything can tell you that the way we talk now is different than they talked 200 years ago. When I noticed her close attention to the details in the way her characters spoke to each other I knew I was in for a treat.
The story itself was a lot different than I thought it would be. Since I had never read anything by Sylvia Day before I thought that this may be your typical historical romance with the typical but still loveable plot lines, charcters and writing style. However, this book had none of those at least in my opinion it didn't and you know what? I absolutely loved that about it.
In this novel Sylvia Day presents us with a strong yet feminine character in the form of the widowed Lady Jessica. I loved Jessica's character because though she had her faults she was neither high and mighty nor extremely outlandish and uncaring as some heroines in popular historical romances are. She's had a hard time of it and while she has a really hard time letting people and most importantly Alistair in to her heart as well as her confidence. I really felt for her character due to the past abuse she suffered at the hands of her father and the untimely death of her husband. Yet, despite it all she has an inner strength that makes her an even more endearing character. Plus with her and Alistair had their battle of wills she was an apt oponent. Alistair, Jessica's love interest has also had a hard time of it in the past and his past is the one reason that Jessica has taken care not to get to close to him up until now. After witnessing Alistair in a compromising position years before she is determined to not let him under her skin...or her skirts.
I really loved the romance element to this novel because of the obvious chemistry there was between Alistair and Jessica. I mean talk about erotic! I'd have to say that this is probably the sexiest romance I've ever read. Sylvia Day certainly knows how to write her naughty bits in her novels. But, don't think that that is all the novel is about.
Since I got so attached to the characters the ups and downs that they experience through the novel actually made the story all the more real to me. The fact that this book didn't go straight from them getting freaky to living happily ever after was a nice change of pace. Plus the fact that they were willing to fight for each other and to be together just made the book even better.
So basically if you want a super sexy historical romance to read bordering on erotica but with an extremely well thought out cast of characters, and plot I highly suggest picking this one up. I devoured this one in just a day and thought it was wonderfully written and now I have a new favourite author. I recommend this one to all historical romances lovers and those who are new to the genre and are looking for a starting point to start reading. I for one can't wait to read another of her historical romances because her writing is addictive!
* I received a free copy of this book from the published via NetGalley in exchange for my free and honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own and I was not compensated in any way.

SEVEN YEARS TO SIN by Sylvia Day is an exciting Erotic Georgian Historical Romance. "The book that inspired Bared to You-Sylvia Day". What a wonderful story. The scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and the Lady Jessica Sheffield have sparks that fly,but Lady Jessica is a prim debutante. Seven years later however, she is a new widow and all bets are off. While, a young Alistair was forced to sale his body to make ends meet and help his family, a young Lady Jessica watched in awe as his passion sparked another. Seven years later....again they meet. Two souls tortured from their past, filled with passion that only takes a spark to ignite, soon find their place in life and their happiness as well as a unforgettable passion. Filled with a bit of intrigue, lots of passion, family, and love. Ms. Day has yet again written an Erotic romance that makes the pages sizzle, the characters come to life, and the chemistry unforgettable. She is truly a mistress in the erotic historical genre. Well written with vivid descriptions and engaging, charming characters. The sensual scenes are, what can I say...passionate,sizzling and down right hot. A must read for any historical romance reader. The story behind the story is awesome! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day
Seven Years to Sin penned by the prolific and famous author Sylvia Day is an high-spirited love story that will vibrate the depth of th readers heart and soul. Within the mesmerizing pages of Seven Years to Sin are an extremely touching and exorbitantly sensual story of several individuals who live a life of lies in order to avoid disgrace surrounding their pretentious relationships. The sorted affairs of elite members of society of the Dukes, Earls, Lady, and Lords only a few are privy to the details.
This novel is not like granny's romance novels.
The settings Ms Day utilizes for the environments of grace and disgrace are realistic and quite picturesque. Ms. Day's powerfully engages the five senses enabling the reader to transport themselves into the narrative and experience the joys and heartache of the finely honed personalities of her dynamically crafted characters. Lady Jessica Tarley, Lady Hester Regmount are sisters who are admired and respected along with their powerful husbands socially and professionally. The four of them have endured painful childhoods which one would not commonly associate with an elite family lifestyle amidst mansions, cruise ships and massive plantation homes in the West Indies. As I read Seven Years to Sin I was in awe of Ms. Day's dedication to details and research of the dialogue historical elements associated with living during this period in England and in the Caribbean. The multitude of details present throughout the book pulled me deeper into the sinful lives of the people living during this era.
Once again Ms. Day has converted me into being more open-minded and receptive to seeing love and devotion from another perspective. I read with my mouth agape at the interaction of Ms. Day's well defined characters and their innermost thoughts. When I think of historical romance I envision stuffy, unrealistic dialogue and behaviors. I did not find an ounce of my stereotypical biases as Ms. Day took me into the past and on an irresistible, erotic , exciting ride through the lives and events on the Pennington mansion with the aristocratic families of Sinclair, Masterson, Sheffield, Tarley and Alistar Caulfield.
Seven Years to Sin is a mind-blowing sexy read with plenty of outrageous twists and turns. In my opinion it was definitely worth the seven years Jessica and Hester waited for a sensual love of such magnitude. I enjoyed this novel more than I expected since this is not a genre I usually gravitate to when reading sensual romance novels.

Sylvia Day's Seven Years to Sin is a sizzling hot historical romance. Catching Alistair Caulfield In flagrante delicto stirs Lady Jessica Sheffield's desire. Unfortunately, she is the verge of marrying someone else. Seven years later, Jessica is now widowed and journeys to the West Indies to learn more about the inner workings of the plantation she now owns. Alistair seizes the opportunity to join her on the voyage and explore the attraction between them.
Lady Jessica Sheffield may have conformed to society's expectations, but a backbone of steel lies under her very proper facade. Abused by her father and forced into an arranged marriage, Jessica always does what is expected of her. She was lucky enough to find love and passion in her marriage and she genuinely grieves her husband's death. Jessica shares a close relationship with her sister Hester and she is greatly respected by society. With Alistair, she sheds her inhibitions and discovers who she really is.
Alistair Caulfield is the fourth son of a duke and he is a self-made man. He has an infamous reputation as a rake who will accept any wager. He carries the scars of emotional abuse from both his parents but most especially his father. There is a great deal of depth and substance that Alistair keeps hidden.
The gentle and tender lovemaking Jessica experienced with her husband in no way prepares her for the wild and all consuming sexual heat that she finds with Alistair. Their lovemaking is raw, uninhibited and so hot that I am pretty sure I saw wisps of smoke emanating from my eReader during their sex scenes ;) .
But what makes Seven Years to Sin such a magnificent romance is the emotional connection between Jessica and Alistair. These are not characters who give their trust easily or lightly. But the bond that forms between them demands complete and utter honesty. Jessica and Alistair bare their souls to one another and they share their deepest, darkest secrets with each other. They discuss their problems and work together to find solutions.
Interwoven with Jessica and Alistair's story is a secondary story arc involving Jessica's sister Hester. Hester's marriage is deeply troubled and she has few options open to her. It is a heartbreaking illustration of how few rights women in the time period had.
Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day is a highly erotic and absolutely delightful romance. The characters are marvelously depicted, fully developed and three dimensional. Very little conflict, no angst and a genuine, meaningful relationship make Seven Years to Sin one of the most enjoyable novels I have read. Definitely a recommended read for fans of historical romances.

this book was AWESOME!!! I was engaged and in love with the characters from the very start. Ms Day writes such well written and deeply enriched characters. I loved Alistair, who on the surface seemed to be the scrapegrace everyone named him but who had such depth and hidden needs, the very first scene with him and Jessica was so arousing just amazing. I was happy that Jessica was able to find love in her first marriage as most of her peers did not have that and she clearly needed it after her personal home life.
Alister did so much to prove himself worthy of love from his family, and yet still shunned society's demand that he be what they desired him to be by becoming more than they had set aside for him. Ohh how i loved his sharing with Jessica his deepest secrets holding nothing back as a way to test her and also as a way for her to know the real him, not just the facade. As for Jessica she had learned the hard way that Society's rules weren't to be flouted and yet perhaps because of the circumstances she was more willing to throw caution to the wind in this pursuit. She was at first reluctant to let go of what was comfortable yet when given the freedom to do so, did it with a flourish. And oh what a flourish!!!
I laughed with these characters, cried for these characters, was seriously turned on by the love scenes so much so that i would put the book down and whatever the partner was doing jump him!!! He sends his regards to Ms Day as well because he loved the story too.
The secondary story within this story is Hester and Michael, from their youths they were friends, and in love but Hester's head was turned by a more renowned peer and she married for love and as the saying goes married in haste, repent in leisure. Her story was the most heartbreaking as she had no recourse of way in which to better her situation. I felt for poor Michael who couldn't help the woman he loved as much as he wanted to because of society's views on marriage.
I loved this story and Sylvia managed to convey so much within it's pages, the deep love and lust that can be found, how some loves can be sweet and simple instead of raging yet still be as satisfying for those within the union. She touched on the systems of slavery and it's effects as well as the perceived necessity fo the times, yet the changes that were taking place of using indentured servitude instead of slaves. She balanced the concept of ideals with reality and what needed to be done for women, I personally loved this story for it. Of course the fact that they were sailing for Jamaica didn't hurt,as I love my home country more than words can convey.
Sylvia brought up salient points about women and their place in society, how abuse affects people even decades later, how women were treated. All of these deep concerns then and now, yet she made them noteworthy without making the story boring and downtrodden with her points. All of this wrapped in a deeply erotic tale of long held lust which bloomed into deep love. I have become a fan; it is my understanding that the book Bare to You is based on this book, and if it is, then boy oh boy it's going to be hot one. I'm making space on the TBR pile as we speak!!!
I hope you revel in this book as much as i did and enjoy it's deliciously sensual scenes. Happy Reading.

Quite simply one of the most romantic erotic romances I have read in a long time. I loved that Sylvia Day concentrated just as much effort into the romantic aspect of this wonderful story, Seven Years to Sin as she did for the erotic plot. I just loved it.
I was really drawn to just how romantic the story was. Most of the books I read are romance novels but Seven Years to Sin just stepped it up a notch and really had that extra touch of romance. The protagonists really truly loved each other throughout the book and I totally felt their chemistry. I'm not just referring to the off-the-charts heat factor alone but I really felt how much they loved each other. I was also deep into the story because the whole book was about their feelings toward one another and that they really weren't battling a forced conflict that kept them apart. Oh how I loved that! Jessica and Alistair were on a ship that was sailing from England to Jamaica and that alone time allowed for all of their emotions and lust to be front and center. There was no guessing with Jessica and Alistair. No misunderstanding nuisances. Just honesty and shared feelings. An amazing connection.
The timing was perfect for Jessica and Alistair. Jessica had been widowed a year and Alistair was finally able to let his long pent-up feelings regarding Jessica surface. Everything just seemed to fall into place.
The side story about about Jessica's sister Hester and her brother-in-law Michael really added to the story. Perhaps Hester and Michael were the conflict that was needed in the book but regardless it all worked. I wonder if Hester and Michael will get their own book in the future?
I don't mean to be spoilery but even though Seven Years to Sin was historical, I also LOVED that it didn't end with Jessica and Alistair having a baby!! Thank heavens a historical novel can have an amazing romantic ending (which it did) and have it without needing a baby to make it complete. Totally scored more points from me on that!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this novel, I had never read Sylvia Day. I saw it on NetGalley and knew it was by the same author that wrote Bared to You, which has come highly recommended to me by sources I trust. I hadn't yet gotten to Bared to You but thought this book would be a good step to get my feet wet from Sylvia Day. What I got was more than I ever thought.
Day did a great job building up the tension and the emotion. I knew this book was classified as erotica, but it was so much more. Both Jessica and Alistair had a depth to them that you don't often find in the erotica genre. They had huge emotional roadblocks that they had to overcome before they could find peace in each other's arms.
Jessica was heralded as an ice queen; she was a paragon of virtue and never did anything that was not socially acceptable. A hard childhood taught her, that anything less than perfection was not enough. When on the eve of her wedding, she witnessed something that changed her irrevocably. That night she realized something that she never knew about herself, that she had depths of passion and was not willing to let that go. Due to Alistair's indiscretion she had 7 years of an enjoyable marriage, but she never forgot that night. When she is on the ship with Alistair, rediscovers that passion, thinking this affair will help her get over the passing of her husband, but becomes so much more. She finds herself.
Alistair, has a well earned reputation of a rake, but seven years ago, he found that maybe being a rake is not all that it is cracked up to be. He finds that a willing body is not always enough. Knowing he wanted what he couldn't have as well as to get away from his "father" he left England and made his fortune. Seven years later there is little left of the young man Jessica once knew. His passion still raged hot, but there are depths to him that she never expected. He is loyal, intelligent, motivated, successful, sexy and incredibly open, all things she never thought she would find from him. Alistair is the fourth in line to the dukedom, a title he never wanted nor did he deserve. The lack of support from his family led him to make some decisions as a young man, which he couldn't quite regret because they brought him to where he is today, but knows these same decisions may cost him the thing he wants most in the world... Jessica.
The story will take you on a whirl wind of emotion as well as an incredibly steamy connection between Alistair and Jessica. I founds that once I picked this book up I had a really hard time putting it down, even when I found myself still reading at 4:00 am. And extra bonus is the story of Jessica's sister Hester and her husband as well as an admirer that finds himself in a similar situation as Alistair had once found himself. I enjoyed the subplot almost as much as I was enjoying the main plot line!

Lady Jessica Sheffield on the eve of her wedding sees the very delectable Alistair Caulfield in a very compromising position with a married woman. Both horrified and a little inspired this leads Jess to have a very interesting conversation with her husband to be and their marriage goes on to be a very happy one.
Seven years later Jess is a very wealthy widow and is now the owner of a large property in Jamaica which borders property owned by Alistair who is now a wealthy businessman. Alistair has never quite forgotten Jess and as they both set sail to Jamaica free from all the polite expectations of normal society Alistair goes all out to seduce Jess.
I think I'm on a roll with historical romances right now, I couldn't put Seven Years to Sin down. I just loved how Sylvia Day was able to weave the tale of the growing passion between Jess and Alistair in with both their difficult upbringings, as well as the secondary but no less gripping changing story of Jess's sister Hester and Alistair's friend Michael. The complete transformation in the circumstances of the main characters in the seven years had me absolutely engrossed, Jess has always had to hide her true feelings, with a violent father and then with a very public (but happy) marriage so seeing Alistair unleash the true Jess in their six week journey to Jamaica was toe curlingly good. Although Alistair initially comes across a real love them and leave them type when he opens up to Jess about the situation of his birth and how he had to basically be a gigolo to survive and get on in life, I was ready to forgive him for anything. In the end I think they both saved and changed each other. My favourite part was at the ball when Alistair practically devours Jess with his eyes when he sees her in her beautiful red dress, I could just imagine them both focusing on each other with heated longing whilst everything around them fades into insignificance. And their journey home was just phew!
Fantastic story, amazing characters and some very sensual and erotic love scenes I highly recommend Seven Years to Sin.

Take two people who where abused..one physically and the other emotionally. Put them together in a relationship and you wonder if or how said relationship will even last.
Seven Years To Sin starts of with Jessica Sheffield on the eve of her marriage to Lord Tarley. She's attracted to him, but there is also a strong attraction to the much younger Alistair Caulfield, which she dismisses.
Later that night before her wedding, Jessica spies Alistair "servicing" one of the Ladies in the forest. This one night starts the premise of a story that is beyond mesmerizing. While Jessica marries Lord Tarley and becomes the proper dutiful wife..Alistair takes to sailing to far lands to in part to escape from his families guilt of his bastard birth and his raging feelings for Jessica.
Seven years later with the passing of her husband, Jessica and Alistair cross paths again. Alistair Caulfield is now a self made man and when the opportunity arises for him to finally have Jessica as his, he eagerly takes it.
This story was so good and just as sad. Told from Jessica's and Alistair's POV, it made for a very enjoyable read.
Separated for seven years due to Jessica's marriage to Alistair's best friends older brother and also because Alistair was the youngest brother and so, he was a not suitable match for marriage.
The more I read, the more intrigued I became with these characters. For they both felt they weren't worthy of each others love. Jessica because she was now older and barren. And Alistair because of his sordid past.
I loved how Ms. Day gave these people real struggles, it gave the so much more depth. With Jessica being phyically abused and Alistair, emotionally abused..I had to wonder how this story was going to end. Was it going to have a HEA? well that my lovelies is for you to find out.
Just know that this story will have you riveted...at least it did for me. I also liked the fact that Jessica's sister Hester was also inputted into this tale. Hester & Michael need their own book *coughs* hint...hint...
Highly recommended read.

Lady Jessica watch's a liaison under the cover of trees the night before her marriage to an upstanding peer and longtime friend. The participants? One Alistair Caulfield known to be paid for his services and one of his clients; a Countess. So why is she panting as Alistair pounds into the lady with his impressive...strength? Why are her knees getting weak as Alistair holds out his hand to Jessica just as the lady screams her orgasm? Why? Because she is imagining herself pinned up against the wall instead of the Countess currently taking all of him inside of her.
It is no surprise when seven years later, after Jessica's beloved husband dies from smallpox that she sets sail for the West Indies to settle the plantation that was bequeathed to her upon his death, the ship that she steps upon is none other than Caulfield's ship. Alistair also is setting sail for the West Indies to see how his plantation is fairing.
Soon, the close quarters are too much for two people who have denied their passion for too long. Jessica, because she has been beaten into being the perfect hostess and Alistair because once he had set eyes on Jessica seven years ago, there was no other women for him. But when they get back to London, will Jessica refuse to acknowledge their love for one another in the eyes of society?
Seven Years to Sin was deeply moving for me in the sense that the sex or, excuse me, the lovemaking was scorching hot. I was afraid the pages were going to turn to fire in my hands.
No, but seriously Jessica and Alistair's love for one another was something to behold. The secondary plot between Jessica's sister Hester and her husband was not very exciting and ended predictably. The book ended much too abruptly for me, I was hoping to read just a little more about Hester's situation.
All in all though, I thoroughly enjoyed Seven Years to Sin and I was not disappointed in the least.

I loved EVERYTHING about this book, the way it was written, the story and I LOVED Alistair & Jessica! This book consumed me and I devoured it knowing it will stay with me forever!
The journey of Alistair and Jessica begins with chaste looks and comes to a head one evening when Jessica stumbles upon a "scene" in a gazebo involving Alistair, where what she witnesses, proceeds to spark a change in her and stays with her until 7 years later when this night becomes pivotal to her future.
Jessica thought Alistair "the handsomest man she'd ever seen. Exotically so. Blatantly seductive. More than slightly dangerous. Delicious." "He exuded raw sensuality that was nothing less than addictive. When she wasn't with him, she wished to be." - Yeah me too!
Seven years later Jessica who is now a grieving widow looks to overcome her grief and move on with her life. To do so she decides to travel to Jamaica to deal with property belonging to her late husband. Alistair, who has had strong feelings for Jessica since the night by the gazebo decides to travel with her and begins his "wooing" (lol)of her.
"Jessica - a woman he'd known was meant to be his from the moment he first saw her".."She'd snared him completely that long-ago night, bewitched him beyond redemption. There was no other choice for him. Somehow, he had to make himself the only choice for her."
"I have wanted you for so long now he said roughly, I've no memory of how it feels to be devoid of the craving. But you must know what you do. I need you to think of who you are and where you are and who I am. Think of how things will be once we've crossed this threshold..."
Neither Alistair nor Jessica could anticipate the depth of their emotion, their attraction or connection which began seven years earlier.
Both Alistair and Jessica have tragic pasts and are in need of fixing. They have to learn to open up and deal with the pasts that have marked them and learn to love and trust. They need to find their future, the key to their individual happiness and the happiness they can find together.
"You and I have always been inevitable. And I am not a man to take pieces of a whole. I must have everything. The good as well as the bad". - Alistair
"What there is between you and me has never been safe, nor will it ever be. You have to accept our attraction for what it is, with all it's faults and detriments, trusting that it will be worth whatever the costs may be" - Alistair.
"Do you truly want to delve into the unsavory aspects of my past? I confess, I would rather you think of me as a romantic figure than one who is flawed and damaged". - Alistair
Their journey is one amazing heart wrenching and SIZZLING HOT ride made more so by the language and the romance of the time in which it is set.
"There, he said, drawing her attention to a gazebo set in a clearing to the left of where they ascended. The structure was immediately recognizable - it was a miniature replica of the one on the Pennington estate..." - *SIGH*!!!!
This book has so many twists and turns and the drama, and other characters such as Michael and Hester, running alongside the beautiful story of Alistair and Jessica adds to the edge of your seat reading!!
I am in awe of Sylvia Day right now; the way in which she hooked me and taught me the appreciation of historical romance. This is a must read!
Sylvia Day is FAB-U-LUSH!!

On the day of her wedding Lady Jessica Sheffield watches as the decedent and indecent Alistair plays with his latest paramour in the gazebo; all the while keeping contact with her eyes, with her soul. Running into her betrotheds arms, Jessica all but throws herself to him, begging to be taken even before the vows are read. With her beloved Benedict gone a year now it is time for Jessica to take care of business, planning to head back to the island and the plantation her husband had left to her. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would meet up with Alistair again or the power he held over her after 7 long years. The power to make her weep with need and desire like he had done so briefly without a touch under the waning moon so long ago.
Alistair Caulfield had never gotten over the one woman who had captivated his heart so long ago despite their very brief yet intimate interlude and the connection made despite never touching each other. Now a successful merchant he had stayed away as much to be out of his father's reach as to stay away from Lady Jessica. When her brother in law asked his favor in keeping the widow safe on her journey he could neither say no nor submerge his desire to finally capture the woman of his dreams. No other had captured his heart and no other could come closer than the Lady Jessica herself.
Taking a return trip back to the islands was not what he intended but it would give him the chance to see Jessica as she is now and attempt to win her over especially when he not only had purchased a berth on the ship she intended to sail on but owned that ship and others thanks to his determination to prove himself. Jessica had never forgotten the passion that Alistair had stirred within her but the younger man had always been much too arrogant in his preening for her to admit her notice even with her betrothal to a man who had captured her heart. Tarley had once held her heart and admittedly a comfortable passion but it was nothing like the erotic intensity that Alistair ignited within her and a temptation that she could not deny.
Whew. This erotic historical delight was beyond what I was expecting when I opened the first pages. I was absolutely enthralled in their arousing and exciting adventure that led them to opening up themselves to both passion and love like they had never found before. A little danger, a lot of spice and a fantastically delicious helping of sexy sensual interludes combine to deliver one of the best historical reads I have read this year. I loved their interactions, their emotional bond and their intimate explorations as they give in to a connection that they had let simmer for 7 years before consummating it this exceptional read.

Fantastic! Alistair, Jessica, Michael and Hester are amazing characters and make it possible for this book to have an amazing lesson about love. Sylvia Day just wrote one of the best historical erotic romances of the year.
I had never read any books by Sylvia Day, and I'm pretty happy that I did! We follow the story of Alistair and Jessica since their very spicy moment before Jessica gets married and their re encounter after her husband's death.
At the same time we read about Hester, Jessica's sister, and Michael's relationship. These secondary characters are so lovable! We fall in love with Alistair's charisma and charm - he's a rake after all- and also Jessica's strength and courage.
The final twist was a surprise and what I liked most about Seven Years To Sin is that it's never late to love and overcome our past. The author also approaches physical abuse towers women, what's their role in the society, their financial independence and the married life. All of them treated with honesty and truth.
The problems the hero and heroine have to go through are very real and the story is full of burning hot scenes. I would love, love, love to read more about Hester, and we might get it. If you've read it and feels the same way, show it! Speak up!

Ok, first off I want to start with a disclaimer that I love, adore and devour naughty novels. There is nothing I like more than romance where the hero and heroine are wild for each other and one can read about their chemistry together and watch the sparks they shoot off each other. I don't have a problem whatsoever when the hero and heroine engage in scorching encounters.
That being said, when that is ALL they do it becomes quite boring. Too much of a good thing and all that. I liked the characters very much, they both were flawed but good people, there was none of those silly misunderstanding that could be fixed by simple talking that is so pervasive in most romantic novel plots, I also enjoyed the fact that the heroine wasn't a blushing virgin or some sexually frustrated widow who had been pining away all her life for the right man to awaken her sexually (a very common plot too in historical romance).
I wish the author had been a little bit less bent on writing about her main characters in all sexual positions known to mankind and more in an actual plot. There is really no plot, no secrets to discover (the whole abuse deal was so obvious) there was no conflict and no resolution. All there was was sex, lots of it, in boats, in meadows, in gazebos, on desks, in bathtubs, in bed, in carriages, etc. We got it, we got it, he was experienced and she was wanton really. They were sexually compatible, again we got it. Aside from their sexual compatibility (to which we were treated on every page of the book) I have no knowledge of what they had in common or what exactly was it that they found so fascinating about each other. I dare to venture that they weren't actually in love, they were just in lust. "Lucien" because he got the one woman he couldn't get and Jessica because she was a proper paragon of virtue in society and being with Lucien was so against her character.
I found much more interesting the story of Hester and Jessica's brother in law and skipped several pages of writhing and moaning and "more, more, more" to get to her plot who had so much more depth, emotions and twists.
In the end I wished I had been reading Hester's story instead. I wonder if the author knows about that trick of keeping people wishing for more instead of cramming everything down our throats.

Lady Jessica Sheffield has been in mourning for a year and she's finally ready to move on with her life. Her marriage resulted from an arrangement but she was happy. Jessica may not have felt passionate sparks for her husband like the ones she felt the night she spied Alistair Caulfield in a compromising position with another but she was content. Jessica's husband left her the place she loved the most and now she is going to return there.
Alistair Caulfield is no stranger to illicit affairs but there is only one woman that lights a fire within and she's finally available. Alistair is determined to not let Jessica get away from him this time. As a favor to his friend Michael, Lady Jessica's brother-in-law, he agrees to accompany her to the island estate left to her. Alistair plans to use his time with Jessica wisely. Weeks aboard a ship should give him the time he needs. Seven years of fantasies and burning desire are about to turn up the heat. Let the seduction begin...
Sylvia Day's Seven Years to Sin is fervent, fantastic, out of this world great! Ms. Day's pen is blessed with the irresistible ability to seduce the reader along with her characters. Jessica and Alistair have the kind of passion that if you get to close you may get burned. I found myself immediately enthralled by the explosive sexy sparks that these two throw off. Their trip across the sea is one sinfully sexy boat ride. I just loved the locations the reader is taken to in Seven Years to Sin. The stunning visuals Ms. Day provides are exotic and bring the sexual tension to new heightened levels.
I am in love with this couple! Not only do Jessica and Alistair float my boat but the excellent subplot that Ms. Day gives us involving Jessica's sister and her brother-in-law, Michael is outstanding as well. It is so easy to fall in love with Jessica's sister, Hester. A once bubbly outgoing girl becomes timid and fearful after her husband proves as abusive as her father. Michael who has always been in love with Hester has waited patiently; never marrying in hopes he could one day have the woman he desires. Their story is a beautiful one and I would love to read more about them.
Prepare to be seduced for Seven Years to Sin is riddled with sensuous cravings, a fiery couple and the kind of unforgettable love that will leave you with sweet dreams. Ms. Day is quickly becoming my go-to for historical romance. Ms. Day's ability to smoothly cross genre lines and create magical romances in every genre she pursues is what I call beautiful talent.

Purely Sinful! Sublime! Heart Wrenching! A must have on every aficionado's book shelves!
USA Today's bestselling author Silvia Day once again proves why readers are obsessed with her writing in her latest historical romance release, SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is an incredibly rich with a dynamic prose spearhead by to of the most intriguing and engaging protagonist that I have read. Released this month by Kensington Brava SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is on its way to be a romance classic.
It has been seven years since Lady Jessica Sheffield last saw Adrian Caulfield in a very compromising position, begging her to stay. She has never forgotten those penetrating eyes or is pleas and how her body responded...and how it still responds at just the slightest memory. Newly widowed, Jessica is making a transatlantic voyage to inspect some property left to her by her late husband in the West indies. Little does she know that she is about to come face to face with the one man that has haunted her dreams day and night.
Seven years ago Alistair Caulfield ran far away from the temptation of prim and proper Jessica Sheffield. Now she has stepped her dainty foot aboard his ship and seven years worth of denied pleasure are held in check with a few layers of clothing. The voyage is long and Alistair knows how to tempt and satisfy a woman more than any other man. He will use his skills to bring Jessica into his world. Finally having the one thing he desired most...her love.
Reader I need to get this out of the way. I am a kind of up-front-and-center kind of girl. I am a proud card caring member of the devoted fan club for USA Today's bestselling author Sylvia Day. Phew, I feel so much better that I got that off my chest. For now reader you will come to understand and fall in love with a writer who has concentrated magic at the end of her fingertips. SEVEN YEARSTO SIN is a must read on every romance junkies bookshelf for two very important reasons. Lady Jessica Sheffield is a stunning beauty who has been raised with a firm hand by her father. She is highly intelligent, firmly loyal to family and friends and will fight for the underdog. She had a rough upbringing with an abusive father but that in no way hinder her from reaching out to someone in need. If anything being abused directs her path in being of good service to others. Lady Jessica is a firmly grounded three dimensional character that gives this story its unique look into too hard-to-face situations. Even though Lady Jessica has a loving and compassionate nature this in no way defects the bold as brass constitution she issues forth when need be. Dealing with a dashingly devilish unique man the likes of one Alistair Caulfield is a case in point.
What is there to say about Mr. Alistair Caulfield? Only this. Readers are bound to be seduced by this rogue just as much as Lady Jessica Sheffield has been. This wonderfully written protagonist is a surprise all wrapped up in this a character that is broken down only to be built up again in one of the most emotionally charged prose that I have yet to read. My heart was Alistair Caulfield from the moment he begs Jessica to stay. These two daring protagonist are beyond engaging. Lady Jessica and Alistair Caulfield's pursuit for a happily ever after transcended off the pages and directly into my heart ingratiating them...in my opinion...as one of today's classic leading couples.
In every great book there needs to be terrific cast of character to help support our protagonist on their drama filled journey. SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is filled with quite a few but the two that stand out are Lady Jessica's younger sister Lady Hester Remington who happens to be in a dreadful marriage and hiding the truth about her husband from every one. Even the man who has faithfully loved her from a far the recently titled, Lord Michael Sheffield who is a wonderfully strong and compassionate character. Reader will be rooting for these to either individually or as a pair but it will be completely up to you, the reader to decide.
The underline theme in SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is that women are stronger and more capable of taking care and fighting for themselves. Let's face it women need to be their best advocate. After being everything to everyone, daughter, wife, lover, mother, financial adviser and family manager it would only seem right that women should stop every once and a while and take stock. This way woman are able see how truly brilliant they are. SEVEN YEARS OF SIN also shows us the more compassionate and loving nature of a man without making a man seem to delicate. In the end Lady Jessica had to let go of hidden fears and find the strength to move ford. In the same step, Alistair Caulfield had to drop his guard, face his fears and his ugly past to have enough faith in his love for Jessica and the strength in their love to share his true self.
I cannot say this enough, SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is a must read for every love of romance with it emotional gripping prose, two dynamic protagonist with intelligent and wonderfully written dialogue wrapped in a sensual cocoon of sexual desire that will have readers flipping back and forth through pages to make sure they did not miss one single solitary word.

I loved the entire plot concerning Jessica and Alistar undying love and there need to be open about their past sins and flaws. The long awaited love between them is very dramatic and adventurous. Regardless of the high class society they lived in and what others thought of them, they would have surrender all to be with each other because there happiness is so far beyond what anyone could comprehend.
I also would love to see another novel in the future concerning the love that was developing between Jessica sister, Hester and Micheal. They have been in love for such a long time and unable to do anything about but finally since Hester is moving past the grief in her life due to her husband death. Of course, Micheal is there with patience and waiting since they both know of the feeling each have for one other.

Seven Years to Sin is a story of two people who have been attracted to each other but never acted upon it. Jessica is recently widowed and is heading to Jamaica to take care of her husband's property. Alistair has always lusted after Jessica and thinks that it is fate that she is boarding his ship to Jamaica. Alistair wants to use this opportunity to finally have the woman he's longed for. Both Alistair and Jessica have issues from their past that they must overcame.
I didn't know what to expect when I started reading Seven Years to Sin. The beginning kind of turned me off. The book starts 7 years prior. On Jessica's wedding day, she is taking her pug, Temperance, for a walk and stumbles upon Alistair having sex with a married woman. Jessica is stunned speechless but is also turned on the longer she watches. Alistair eyes Jessica and instead of stopping, her presence fuels his arousal. He has lusted after Jessica and seeing her turned on by his actions excites him tremendously. I've read many historical romances where the heroine catches the hero having sex with another woman and getting turned on by it and then falling for said hero. I'm kinda over this plot trope and think there are better ways to introduce the sexual chemistry between the main characters.
With that being said, I enjoyed the romance between Alistair and Jessica. A lot of time was spent on developing their romance. They both have issues from their past that they must overcome in order to fully move forward with their relationship. The sexual chemistry between them is palpable. The sex scenes were steamy and hot. There was no fade to black in this book. The sex scenes were described in detailed but was not graphic. They were very sensual and erotic.
I also enjoyed the side plot involving Jessica's sister, Hester. Hester's story is heart-breaking and you see how growing up in an abusive household has affected both Jessica and Hester as adults. As the book came to an end, I wanted more of Hester's story. Even though there was a hopeful and promising resolution to her story, I wanted more.
Seven Years to Sin is what you expect from a historical romance. I loved Alistair and Jessica's romance. They overcome so much while in each other's arms. I found it refreshing that the hero, not the heroine, was more afraid of getting his heartbroken. Although for me, there was a little bump in the beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed this book once the romance started developing.

Having read a few other books by Ms. Day, I have liked this one the best. However, I have yet to read "Bared to You", which is getting a lot of press. I planning on reading it very soon.
Seven Years to Sin is about a couple who knew each other 7 years in the past, were attracted to each other, but she was marrying someone else. Jessica was in a satisfactory marriage for 6 years, but is now a widow. Alistair has never forgotten Jessica and when he finds out she is heading to her plantation in Jamaica on one of his ships, he changes his plans to accompany her.
Jessica and Alistair become closer on the ship, discussing their pasts and childhood difficulties. They both have faced abuse and scorn with their families. They soon are lovers. The love scenes are erotic, but it about more than just sex for both. Jessica is not sure she is the woman for Alistair because she fears she is barren and he may someday need an heir. However, I liked the fact she decided to fight for Alistair when things went astray.
Normally, I don't like a secondary love story in a book because it takes away time from the two main characters. However, the story with Michael and Hester kept my attention and I was pulling for them to have a happy ending as much as Jessica and Alistair.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing the book!

Lady Jessica Sheffield marries Benedict Sinclair, Viscount Tarley, escaping her abusive father by marrying the suitor he has chosen for her. Alistair Caufield has dealt with his own demons by becoming an excellent lover and flees from the siren who tempts him with her innocence. Seven years later, Jessica is a widow and Alistair is confident and successful enough to court and seduce her. Jessica's sister has also fled their abusive father but has landed in a marriage that is a living nightmare, unaware that Jessica's brother-in-law, Michael, has pined after her for years. Both women must shed their pasts in order to grasp their future but radical changes in their attitudes will be required before they can have any significant change in their situation. A sensual and enthralling tale of redemption and salvation.
Most romances set in this time period deal with the young debutante looking for her happy ever after. This tale addresses what happens when that idealism wears off and reality sets in. A wonderfully romantic tale of two older but wiser people in search of happiness who have to overcome past traumas and realize what they really want out of their lives.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot.
Seven Years To Sin is well written, and has great flow.
The characters are interesting, witty and fun, and the attraction between Alistair and Jessica is rough, ready and very hot.
I like that they each have a past that could potentially get in the way of a romance between the two. They definitely have to work at being together against the stumbling blocks of society and the roles that they are each expected to play in it.
If you are looking for a great read full of intense feelings and enjoyable sex, then Seven Years To Sin fits the bill quite nicely.
It does lack some story though, as its mostly about the sexual heat and subsequent affections of the two MC's as opposed to a detailed and moving novel. There is some interesting interaction with the secondary characters and I hope that they may get to have their own story told in a future book.
Overall a great read, full of interesting and playful banter, and a rough and ready love story.

This story began with a very unexpected blast of carnal heat. Jessica was running after her beloved pet dog and was stopped in her tracks by the sight of Alistair having a very hot romp in the woods. Instead of running from the scene Jessica stood there and stared, Alistair stared back at her as he continued on.Engaged to be married.... Did Jessica bring the passion she experienced while watching the affair in the woods or did she bring the passion she felt to her marriage bed? Mayhap she pined for the scintillating Alistair? You'll have to read this great book to find out! Talk about a sizzling book being hidden behind a mild mannered bookcover! To look at it it seems unassuming and pretty but behind that cover is a sinfully delicious read!Jessica is a refreshing character for the era, she's opinionated but a lady through and through. She's also passionate verging on wanton, LOVE IT! Alistair seems to be a magnificent specimen of a man. Merchant and Romeo all rolled into one great package. Mmmmmmm. The characters embark on an adventure you must read about!Passion, sensuality, thrilling... This book is truly worth reading!

You can read this five times or more and never get sick of it. Amazing. Either her best or in the top three for me. Wish this author would write more historicals. I dont read modern fiction or paranormal. Not sure what it is with this paranormal rage but I hope it dies out soon. This book had everything. Interesting and touching love story. All her hero's are just crafted in this amazing way. Totally hot and romantic. Actually liked the heroine too as I have in most of her books. There are only a couple of her historicals that I didnt care for but loved 90%. The Stranger I Married and Ask For It are her other two which are the best for me. Passion for the Game also excellent.

I cannot get enough of Sylvia Day.
Seven Years to Sin was phenomenal! It was probably one of the most intense books I have ever read. The storyline was without fault and so well written. Touching base with so many real and raw issues that society and people in general face every day.
I was touched by the characters. They are so full of depth and so realistic. And HELLO ALISTAIR!!! Where can I find me one of those??? He had my toes curling and core heating.
Sylvia sure knows how to deliver smoking hot and sensual scenes while still keeping the storyline on track and tasteful.

I found Jessica to pretty interesting. She and her younger sister, Hester, were physically abused by their father. She's now widowed and has developed a drinking problem over the years. She seems to do a pretty good job of staying away from it.
I liked Hester's story much more than Jessica's and Alistair's. Hester is twenty-three and in an abusive marriage to Edward. Edward has a drinking problem, which makes their marriage a nightmare. Hester is terribly unhappy and it shows in her appearance.
Alistair is very handsome and was a gigolo. He's always had an attraction to Jessica. What I like most about Jessica is that she's not afraid to let her feelings for Alistair be known. They're very straightforward with one another.
The sex was very explicit and there was plenty of it. I'm not sure what year this story took place or how old Jessica and Alistair are. That annoyed me.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Are you looking for a guide in a Historical Novel, will look no further then Sylvia Day.
I have never being a fan of historical novel, be hones I have never being a fan of historical anything (o though I like movies like Becoming Jane) So when I was giving the opportunity to read Seven Years of Sin I was not sure, but when I read who the author was I just had to try it.
So who best to guide me on a historical romance time then Sylvia Day and I most say guide me she did.
I was just in love by the book in part of the story I felt I was in the room with the character. The detailed make you imagine the whole story in your head for me it was just perfect.
Alistair, what can I say but where can I find one of him in this day in age. I challenge anybody not to fall in love with this man is impossible not to. The love he has for Jessica is just breathtaking the way he treats her is sexy and romantic.
I just adore Jessica I just found her to be so old fashion pretty even though she as gone trough a lot you can feel for her and her sister.
This book also follows Jessica sister Hester. Hester story is moving and at time for me it was heart broken I would love to read more on Hester and Michael I feel that it was just a touch up on them and I understand since the book is mainly about Jessica and Alistair but Hester just stole my heart.
If you are some that enjoys Historical o Regency Romance Novel truest me on this you will devour this book Sylvia Day knows how to write romance Period.
P.s And yes the love scenes are flaming smoking hot in this book turn the air on and were some blush because you will get hot.

"He had long known he was meant to have her; he hadn't realized until this afternoon he was meant to keep her". The inspiration behind the Crossfire series was a fiery adventure. Jessica was drawn to Alistair since that fateful night in the woods, Alistair long before that. Unfortunately she was promised to another man and wouldn't dream of standing up to her father or obligations to society. Seven years later, circumstances have changed and so have Jess and Alistair. Many obstacles try to come between them but nothing can deter Alistair, who never resists a challenge. The secondary characters were also well fleshed out and equally engaging. I would like to see a follow up of Hester and Michael. They are both equally complex and the story would be explosive.

Simply put- I fell in love with this book. While waiting for Reflected in You- I started reading more of her other books. This one I fell in love with- it melted my heart. I enjoy getting to start and finish with one book- instead of waiting for three. To address some of the bad reviews I have seen on this book: 1. ALL of Sylvia Day's books have ALOT of sex in them, this one was not an exception. I did get tired of EL James sex scenes but I do not tire from the ones Day writes. But something to think about before you read her books. 2. Because it is a historical period piece it was hard to understand somethings like "sennight" but I would just look them up- I thought it add to the book. I now enjoy her historical pieces over her modern ones.
enjoy.
enjoy.

Loved the book, Seven Years To Sin. I felt I really knew the characters. A few surprises were appreciated. A love a good sex scene or two in a good book but this book had too many scenes. Become boring and I just skimmed through the sex and stopped if I saw something new. .I got to the end, and wanted to find the title of Book 2. This must be a stand alone book. How sad. I was really invested in the storyline and characters and I wanted to keep reading about their continued journey., hopefully, about Heather and Michael.

I reviewed this book for Romance Reader At Heart website.
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
I can honestly state that this is one of the hottest prologues I've ever read!
Lady Jessica Sheffield grew up in an abusive home, so it is no wonder that to our hero, she always appeared `cool as a marble statue'. In trying to protect herself as well as her younger sister, this young woman learned early on that hiding her emotions and suppressing her passions was essential to her survival. On the evening before her wedding to a man of her father's choosing, she shares with our hero a moment that will haunt her for the next seven years.
Alistair Caulfield, on the other hand, was the youngest of four brothers, yet grew up craving affection. As a young man, he hid that need by behaving badly. He realizes that after their unique encounter, his life would never be the same.
I was really moved by these two characters as each slowly comes to the realization that their love for each other should be given a chance.
This story is one that features well-developed and very vivid characters with moving and poignant dialogue. As usual, Ms. Day gifts us with a secondary love story that is as much moving as the first--that of Hester, Jessica's younger sister, and Michael Sinclair, her brother-in-law.
The romance between Alistair and Jessica is truly not to be missed. SEVEN YEARS TO SIN is a definite keeper!

This was a wonderful story and I am not a prude, but really. A shorter book with about half the sex scenes would have been much more provocative than this. I got so tired of the repetitive sex scenes, but was so interested in the story line that I just skipped them to get to the story. This is the first book I have read by this author. I liked the writing style overall but if I look at anymore from her I will read the reviews and make sure the book isn't primarily connected sex scenes.

I love historical romances. Sylvia Day did a great job of showing a woman's position in aristocracy of the Regency period. The characters were well developed. The romance between Jessica and Alistair would have been forbidden but the pair breaks all the rules to be together. The secondary characters and their background stories were also developed. The sex was sizzling and was right for two very sensuous people discovering each other. I give it five stars all the way.

Lady Jessica Sheffield is marrying Viscount Benedict Sinclair. She looks forward to leaving behind her violent abusive father though she worries about her younger sister Hester. She is walking her dog when she sees Alistair Caulfield, an unwanted fourth son, having sex. He notices her and asks her to stay, which she does for awhile. She tells Benedict what she saw and seduces him into not waiting for the exchange of their vows.
Seven years later, Benedict has been dead for a year. His brother Michael arranges for Jessica to travel to the Caribbean so that she can look over the estate Benedict left her. Alistair meets his friend Michael and learns that Jessica is traveling on one of his ships. Excited, he tells Michael he will escort her across the ocean. Alistair explains to Jessica he owns the ship and made arrangements to escort her after talking to Michael. She enjoys the dinner discussion about business as women normally are not privy to such talk. Alastair offers to help her understand the plantation she owns in exchange for her assisting him in his adjustment to the Ton now that two of his older brothers are dead and he is the spare. He hides from her that he loves her and she is why he stayed away from England.
This is a delightful erotic Regency romance starring a unique lead. The heroine's late husband was a caring person and their relationship one of love that Alistair recognized and envied. Although the subplot involving her sister, her sibling's husband and her late spouse's brother is distracting, readers will enjoy this fresh historical as love blossoms on the high seas.

Sexy, sexy, sexy !!! Jessica and Alistair are very sizzling in this tale of love lost, and new love found. It is very sexual, in the stuffy period when no one was open and free. They were bound by society and rules. Jess and Alistair have a wild and free romance and exploration. There are other facets to the tale, with Hester, Jess's sister, and other characters. Deeply thought filled people, and interest to know where they end up, keeps you reading. Sylvia Day is a terrific writer. ENJOY !!!

I LOVE Sylvia Day!! She is on my favorite author lists! She writes some amazing historical romance novels and this one tops the list! The writing is perfect, the story line is amazing, the characters are wonderful, everything about this book is fabulous! I couldn't help but fall in love with all of them. And how I hurt for the sister, all I wanted to do was crawl through the book and hold the sister! But it has such a wonderful ending!

I loved this book and, having devoured it, look forward to reading more of Sylvia Day's historical novels! I have to admit that I did not finish her modern-day "Bared to You" series. Though I enjoyed the first book, I grew bored with the second one, and frustrated with the unlikeable heroine. Though I do sometimes enjoy reading contemporary romance, I find I enjoy historical romance much more. But, it is hard to find historical romance with complex, thoroughly developed heroes and heroines, a beautiful, moving love story AND steamy sex scenes! This book has it all.

Sylvia Day is an author getting quite a bit of press in the wake of the erotica explosion, so I was glad of the opportunity to review one of her historical romance books via NetGalley.
In Seven Years to Sin , Lady Jessica is engaged to be married. She notices the bad boy Alistair Caufield, as does her younger sister, and on the eve before her wedding, catches him in flagrante delicto with a married woman. She finds herself sexually attracted to him, but marries her fiance anyway.
Seven years later, she finds herself widowed and the owner of a Jamaican plantation thanks to her late husband. Caufield arranges to be on the ship she sails on, and the two finally consummate an affair that's been seven years in the lusting.
I enjoyed the book, but couldn't bring myself to rate it higher than three stars, mainly because Day skimped on the story arc. A great deal of time is spent on the journey to Jamaica and the consummation of the affair (and the accompanying sex scenes). The real issues would only begin for these two once they had to re-enter the straight-laced society they were both part of, and that section of the book is so short and resolved so quickly and easily it seemed like it was written as an afterthought.
Had the story been more balanced between the "outside society" world of the ship and the return to society, I'd likely have given it a higher rating.

Thank you Ms. Day for this beautiful story. I loved every page. The success of a forbidden love is perhaps the sweetest triumph of all. The reader has no choice but to root for Alister and Jessica. They truly seemed to be made for each other. At least one review complained that there was too much sex, but to my mind it seemed real and I think it would to anyone who has experienced that kind of intense love affair.

There is lot to recommend this book...
...Hot sex. I'll get that right out of the way. Sylvia Day was the very first writer I'd ever read where I noticed that some historical romances were getting much more explicitly sexual. She always manages to write hot sexy scenes without them sounding, well, over the top crude.
...Great heroine back-story. Jessica, the heroine, was physically abused, is barren and likes to drink a little too much.
...Great hero back-story. Alistair the hero is the (bastard) fourth son of a Duke. His mother, the Duchess, had an affair that resulted in his birth. He was acknowledged publicly, yet privately his (non)father hates him and refused to support him. Alistair became a high class gigolo of sorts to support himself. With that comes a whole raft of self loathing.
...And yet they aren't all angsty and tortured. With all that, you'd think this would be some emotionally tortuous story about two damaged souls finding love. Not really. They are damaged but their romance is really quite sweet.
...Oh yeah, the romance was pretty awesome. They fall in love pretty early in the book. The conflict at first comes from each of them being pretty guarded until they admit they are hopelessly in love and then the conflict comes from a believable external source.
...More hot sex.
...Interesting supporting cast. Now, the secondary (non) romance between Jessica's sister and her dead husband's brother was a nice counterpoint. Now that romance is destined to be angsty and tortured.
Really good book.

I love Sylvia Day, but this was not my favorite. I liked Jessica and Alistair, but I was a little more interested in the secondary characters; Hester and Michael. Their story was very sad and I felt tensed for them every time they appeared on the page. I guess I just wasn't ready for a dark romance..

When I first started, I didn't know where this book would bring me. The language seemed a little tough in the beginning, as I don't read many period pieces, but shortly I realized that this was a minor set back. I have yet to be disappointed with a book Sylvia Day has published, and I am always excited when I remember that. Definitely would suggest this to any of my book friends.

Sylvia Day has done a very nice job within the restraints of the genre. She has managed to create two interesting and three-dimensional characters (for a romance -- in real life, even people who love each other fight!) The plot has enough weight to support the main point of the book, the sex scenes. And they are very well-done. Very well-done indeed...

this story starts off a little slow but once you get to erotic sex scenes it is all you can do to glue your eyeballs to your kindle. There is not a lot of angst in this historical romance that keeps it exciting as a thriller book but more of a simple romance with a hot heroine who could give Sylvia Day's famous character Gideon Cross run for his money.

I was referred to this book because of my debilitating CrossFire withdrawal. The story and characters are so familiar I found the connection comforting and fun. Thank you Sylvia, it helped. As a matter of fact, there is one scene at the end? He's playing the violin?....wonderful!. Thank you

I really liked this book. Perhaps it was because I am already a big Sylvia Day fan, but seeing her write historicals was seeing her in an entirely different light. It shows the breadth of her abilities as a writer, and I was impressed. I also really liked the characters of Lady Jessica and Alistair and the story. I will definitely look for THE STRANGER I MARRIED next!

This was a wonderful read! I enjoyed every minute of it and the story just gets better as it progresses. The passion Alistair and Jess have for each other is undeniably electrifying. Sylvia Day did an amazing job on this one. Gideon (Bared to You) is hot but I would take Alistair any day! If you want a love story that's not rushed but appeals to your "sinful" side I would absolutely recomnend this book!

Simply amazing. Love the style of writing. This is one smoking hot love affair. So steamy, and mesmerizing. It will makes your breath quicken, as you read it. Way to hot for the faint at heart. Thanks god, I'm not one of them. Great chemistry bw H&H. Great storyline. Really enjoyed.

Historical romance is not normally of interest to me, but this one was quite riveting. Proper decorum of the past is baffling and arranged marriages and societal expectations unfathomable. Still the Iove stories are timeless.

What a great story about second chances at love! I am a big fan of Sylvia's Crossfire novels so I wasn't sure I would like a historical romance. This story was soooo good. It had a little adventure and was very sexy! Love scenes were pretty steamy! I would recommend reading it.

The story of ravishing love so endearing, it survived the years, before the two could become one!
A wonderful romantic and loving historical roman. This is one of those books that cannot be put down until you have read the final page.
Well deserving 5-star.

If you're into hot sex, strong heroes and heroines, and love? THIS book offers that. There's no great mystery, no nagging, hesitation, or dragging out of the story. It gets to the point and brings home the romance. I'd read it again just to catch the HOT sex.

I've read most of Sylvia Day's other books and enjoyed them, but the plot of this one kind of put me off. Fortunately I was wrong about that, and Seven Years To Sin is an effective and memorable erotic and historical tale.
Okay, it's not up there with her best work. It's definitely not as good as Bared to You and the other books in that series, but Sylvia Day is a very good writer so even her lesser work is worth reading. The plot is fairly simple here, but this allows Day's gift for characterisation to shine through. Jess, in particular, was a very memorable character.

I love Sylvia's books but this one I found a bit slow and the interaction of the characters was not smooth and natural. The plot was OK. I did like the two romances going on at once and the passion the men had for their women. Not a bad read but not her best.

I heard this was the same style, or at any rate the inspiration for Bared to You: A Crossfire Novel and the book that followed, so I grabbed with both hands!
This book is set 200 years ago, which you may or may not like, but it doesn have A LOT of similarities with BTY, especially the copious and frequent steamy scenes. However I didn't find this as compelling and relatable in the characters. It's still a good read, and very well written, but it's back to Gideon and Eva for me. I am re-reading the first two books before Entwined comes out on May 4th.
Other excellent reads i have found in my search are Release Me: A Novel by J Kenner, and Never Understand Part One ( Johnthen Trent Adult Romance 1).
Happy reading!!!

I have to say that I really LOVED Seven Years TO Sin!! I was filled with emotion throughout the book! Alistar Caufield is a dream and I felt like he came alive throughout the book!! Sylvia Day has got to be my favorite author ever and boy can she write the 'Love" scenes!! Reading her stories make you feel what the characters are feeling and it gets pretty hot sometimes!! A true love story that I was honored to read!!

This was my second book to read by Sylvia Day. I enjoy her writing style and am looking for more books to read that she has written. One of the things that I enjoyed about this book is the setting of the book. The time period was one of genteel ladies and gentlemen. Jessica was groomed from childhood by a "dominating and abusive" father to be a lady. To follow the rules. I love the evolution of her feelings as she discover physical love, not just sex in this book, and as she becomes bold and even breaks the rules of society to meet her own needs sexually. I loved reading Fifty Shades of Grey and I loved this book equally.

This is an interesting story and very well written. I enjoyed the developing relationship between the H/h and found it very satisfying. The story does lag a bit in the middle, but the ending more than made up for that.

You can't put this book down. The story pulls you in.
You will need to see what happens to the characters as their lives take many different directions. The characters are well-developed and the book will hold your interest. Sylvia Day is a good writer that knows how to hold the reader's attention with her stories.

Aside from Bared To You ( which was inspired by this book) I loved this book more than any I have ready by Sylvia Day.
This story had Romance ( of course ) drama, and heart break.
Im not going to reiterate the entire story for you, but if you like period pieces with real life drama you will love this book.
Its a quick and easy read in the sense that there is no confusion of characters and no confusion of story lines. I loved all the characters and how they fell into place in this story. You will enjoy every bit of this book.

Alistair is a seriously devastating character. Jessica is a strong sensuous heroine. This is a raw and intense love affair. Swoon worthy reading. It is so well written. It feels immediate, intimate and truthful. Addictive unbridled passion. I LOVED it.

I am a definitely a Sylvia Day fan. I love her books. Each novel is better than the other. If you want to read about historical adventure, take a trip with Sylvia Day through the Victorian era in some of her sizzling novels.

First of all I read the reviews before I bought the book. I knew it was going to be back in the olden days. To my surprise, it was an interesting book. I like it, romance is the same if you compared it to this era. There were some steamy sex scenes. Author was very imaginative.

The story itself is fun and steamy. There were a few points that I skipped ahead a few paragraphs feeling like "ok, ok I get it." Overall this is a pretty good book. Just not something I would put on a "top" list.

Fabulous...loved this book. The only negative thing is that I want more. I would love to see more of Jess and Alastiar, as well as Michael and Hester!! I think this story should be continued. One of my favorites!

Five stars are easily accorded to this sexy well written historical romance. Never have I felt the need to review a book on my Kindle before now, I am, however, committed to after reading Seven Years To Sin. Amazingly written with sultry consistency this strictly adult romance sizzles the pages.

The Old English language is fantastic. I really enjoyed reading this book. The sex scenes were scorching hot. Jessica was a well rounded character as was Alistair (love the name). Hester was my favorite. I wish that the book was around Michael and Hester though. I think it would have been a much more interesting take on it. Overall if you're looking for lit-erotica, this book is for you!

I love Sylvia Day!! But for some reason I just could not get into this book. The characters border on boring throughout most of the book. The last few chapters were good. I wish she would have skipped a majority of the boat ride and focused more on what happens when they return.

Another great written book by Sylvia Day.
An exciting erotic, love story which at times pulls at the heart strings.
A lot of detail in the writing, but would like more emphasis on where the characters are, in the scene as some bits are quite vague. But a good read.
