This is a great, hilarious, but also helpful book. Being a therapist myself, I found his approach particularly awesome. He uses aspects of CBT and DBT to get his message out about "kicking anxiety's ass" and dealing with having a "douchebag brain." I loved his "talking to a friend " language. I highly recommend this book for people dealing with anxiety but also depression, as well as fellow therapists. Quite enjoyed it!

I give it 3 stars for its good intentions.
I’ve dealt with real anxiety my whole life , and this book held nothing for me that a web search for anxiety might not turn up for free.
I found the ‘hardcore’ aspect pretty dumb, disappointing, and only hardcore in a high school sense . The ‘relatable’ language was relatable the way that a lot of advertising is ‘relatable’; it is more a contrivance of relatabilty, one that almost feels market tested ( that’s not to suggest that it was market tested, I believe the author is using his own thoughts here).
For me, strangely , what is obviously relatable to many other readers backfires on me , because I don’t feel included in the author’s audience. His way of writing, his ‘relatability’ just doesn’t feel authentic. Or at least , it doesn’t get too deep if real anxiety has been a lifelong , daily struggle .
All that said , I believe his intentions are good ones. That part of it seems true to me.

Loved this book from the start. Very informative, realistic and entertaining.... If anxiety can be entertaining. I personally found this book to be a great introductory book, yet, a great reminder to those who have had a long-term relationship with anxiety, such as myself. I could definitely read this again and use a lot of the techniques shared but more importantly I think this book could really help those who do not suffer with anxiety understand it in a less stressful way.

I was recovering from one of my episodes from the day before where I freaked out so badly over nothing that I had to stay in bed and ignore the world and responsibilities just to calm down. My heart was racing and I couldn't catch my breath. After having these episodes for years I decided to do something about them. If not rid them forever find away to control them. After researching my symptoms I found that they matched anxiety to the T. I wish I was surprised but I wasn't. My PCP told me I had it once before but I sort of brushed the idea out of my mind as soon as she said anything. Fast forward two days later I have never felt this in control of anything in a long time. It's going to be a journey but really getting down to the core of what the heck is going on with the help of this book was vital and the first huge step towards getting better. Highly recommend this book if you have anxiety.

Overall, the book may sound like a very generalized version about anxiety but I think that's what makes it the perfect short read, especially for those who have barely dipped their feet in the mental health Waters. Robert Duff speaks in a more younger audience time that makes you feel more comfortable and easier to understand the concepts about anxiety.

Easy read with simple language, spiced up with curse words and anecdotes. Perfect descriptions of what Anxiety feels like truly made me feel like I wasn’t crazy...others feel this way too! Reading this book felt like talking to a friend, and that friend understands what’s going on inside my head better than I do. Would definitely recommend.

Suffering from anxiety myself, I hoped this book would follow a different, kick-yourself-in-the-butt approach.
Just the way I like it.

Well- I listened through the whole audiobook and what I found, was a different approach indeed, but not as I hoped for. Using adult language and trying to humorous (and sometimes succeeding), Robert Duff gives a rather generalistic overview over anxiety issues and a few tactis to deal with them. Not too may though, there are like three I can remember from the top of my head.

For anyone who is not completely foreign to the topic, this book doesn't really offer anything new. Yes, anxiety once evolutionary served a purpose; and now it doesn't anymore. Yeah. Knew that.

While the language is different indeed, I really missed the kich-in-the-butt part I was hoping for. Let's just say this doesn't work for me; of my life zero aspects will change because of this book.

Robert did a great job of succinctly defining a difficult topic and putting it in words that the average lay-person can understand. Almost every self-help book repeats concepts over and over to try and make the point and they contain memorable catchphrases. And, almost every one was a waste of time and money. I highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from some form of anxiety. I will be using the knowledge in this book to help with my own anxiety.

I have GAD and when I am stressed the anxiety comes back even though I am on meds. This book is great and I loved reading it. Robert made me laugh and has given me tips on how to handle the anxiety when it does rear its ugly head. Love the way he writes, so down to earth and since he suffers from anxiety he knows all about it. Do read this book, you will not regret it believe me.

I have struggled with GAD for over 8 years now and have taken all types of medication (prescribed and "natural"), and have seen many counselors and psychiatrists/psychologists. Nothing ever seems to work. I've seen this book online and said to myself, it doesn't look like a serious book or something worth my time and money. This week I've had series of panic attacks and even went to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack. Today I heard a preview of the audiobook for this book and thought it was funny but it made sense. So I decided to read it. I read the book in one sitting. It seriously felt like the author was talking about me personally. He described all of my symptoms and how I'm feeling and how to deal with it (at least in my opinion). So many helpful tips and advise and is the ONLY book about anxiety that I finished from beginning to end. I'm sure I'll keep re-reading it. Will definitely suggest this book to my friends who deal with anxiety as well. So thankful for reading it.

I really loved this book I'm personally going through some things and was able to relate too something's in the book. It kept me on my toes the entire time I read it in less than 2 hours, and I can loose interest very quickly! Robert was a realists so it was easier to apply the tools and advice on dealing with multiple anxieties. I recommend this book to anyone experiencing any type of Anxiety, whom would like to learn how to handle themselves and cope in a more healthy stress free way. I chose this particular book because I read the introduction and his style was different from all others I checked out and again the author was very much on point and I was able to laugh in the meanwhile!

Duff,
You've helped me. I'm going to be a physician's assistant soon, and I have been trying desperately to beat anxiety so I may become a stellar clinician. Along with CBT and your words of wisdom, I feel the upward trend of rehabilitation. I feel stronger. My panic attacks are unaccounted for, however, but I WILL conquer them. Fuque Carl (the anxiety guy in me)! I'm making you my bitch each and every day.

I rarely write book reviews, but I ordered this earlier in the week as a way of coping with an intense bout of anxiety. I have been through a bunch of therapy, meds, relaxation techniques, you name it, but right now I am really struggling. When the book arrived, I was a bit taken back by how slim the book was, but right now that is a plus as my concentration sucks big time. Duff is a psychologist, but he writes this book in non medical language, simple, direct, and at times blunt. He outlines not just different types of anxiety, but concrete tips to help think more mindfully (my expression, not his) and concisely provides readers with coping techniques to ease symptoms and help the reader kick anxiety's ass (his words.) He doesn't sugarcoat, and his language is quite blunt, but I like people who cut through the bulls***! I got this in paperback form so that I could highlight and make notes in it, and it is going to stay by my bed for the foreseeable future. If you are easily offended by raw language, choose another book------this one will likely make you more anxious, but for me, this is a winner.

I do not personally suffer from anxiety or depression, but my significant other has a majority for her life. I will admit I never thought it was a big deal or really comprehending what even the smallest tasks were like for her. Reading this has greatly helped me understand a little bit more of what she goes through each day. I find myself being much more patient and understanding. It has helped our relationship a ton, and I would recommend this for ANYONE.

I have pretty severe anxiety. I haven't been diagnosed with PTSD or OCD, but I'm pretty positive I have those as well.
With that being said, I laughed a few times reading this book, which is uplifting.. and I appreciated the behavioral therapy as well as the breathing exercises and such. I think this book is just more for someone with situational anxiety or anxiety that isn't as severe. I'm basically afraid of my own shadow so breathing exercises don't do much for that deep seeded irrational fear I encounter 24:7, but this is an awesome start. I do have frequent panic attacks so I think in that sense, the tools I picked up here will really help.
I'm sad it was so short. I expected it to be much longer. I read this entire book in less than 2 hours.

I really enjoyed this book, it was light hearted and an easy read. It was written in such a simple and to the point way that really helped me connect to what he was saying. Anxiety itself is a very intimidating thing so having this book be so realistic within 60 pages was very refreshing for me. I highly recommend putting this book in your library to keep coming back to when you need a reminder to breathe.

My FIVE star rating has been given due to the No nonsense approach in dealing with such an issue. I used this book to help understand some of the people I love and care about in their journey with anxiety.
This book explains so much without the jargon!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!!

So i had so much anxiety heading to the airport to go in vacation... did I get enough done? Will all my clients leave me? Will my dogs eat my kids? Or worse- vise versa? So I downloaded this book in the car... read half on plane and finished the rest sitting on the beach. Im still anxious but i am going to work on a few of these techniques when I get back. For now I am going to have Bloody Mary and a swim. Thanks for the fun read!

Ugh. Skip this if you have actual anxiety issues besides the occasional nervousness. The language also needs work. "Douchebrain" is used. Really? I have yet to find a truly helpful self help book and this one isn't it either.

I loved this book. It was empowering, uplifting, and positive. In a completely genuine (and not sickeningly cliche) way. Duff 's writing style and sense of humor is like nothing I've read before. Though I haven't read a lot of self help books, I get the feeling that others won't be like this one. The way this book is written makes it feel as though you're having a conversation with the author, and almost all of the questions I had pop up as I read along were answered within the next few sentences. I found myself laughing, learning, and thinking "Oh my god! He gets it!"

I would recommend this book for anyone dealing with anxiety disorders and anyone awesome enough to want to understand more about anxiety.

I was in a bit so great place when beginning this book. My husband suggested I get a hobbie or something I can escape to when feeling particularly anxious. So I chose reading. This was the first book I stumbled upon and it was f-ing great. Just my type of humor and it was exactly what I needed at the time.

I read this book because the cover caught my attention. The way Mr. Duff examines and explains anxiety in this book is hilarious and so very real. He made everything so easy to understand and kept my attention the entire time. I took lots of notes, but I plan on reading again to get more in-depth. I love this book and will be recommending it to other friends with anxiety and a sense of humor!

This book is pretty rad. Short but good. He writes as though he's talking to you like a long time friend that actually understands what you're going through. It's simple and easy to keep up with. Which, face it, is good for those of us who have anxiety.

I really liked it. I suffer from high anxiety and was looking for some insight. I found this book and was immediately drawn by the title. It is written like a friend who suffered from the same is giving me advice and a few helpful tips. Don't expect a full on therapy. Just something that will make you take a breather.

This is probably the BEST book I have read on the topic of anxiety. Robert knows his stuff and understands what those of us with an anxious brain live with. It's a quick read but packed full of great ideas that are easy to implement into your life, not only ideas for coping with anxiety but also suggestions on talking to people in your life to help them understand your experience as well. And probably the part I enjoy the most is that it's funny. I laugh out loud every time I read it. I can't say enough good things about this book and HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking for some help with anxiety.

Purchased this for someone who has anxiety that is crippling her life. I selected this book because I felt she had reached a point where she was mad enough about her anxiety to say, as the title states--"F-Anxiety"! This book is an honest and humorous take on anxiety that gives helpful techniques on coping. I didn't give it 5 stars because the book itself is too short. And although my recipient loved it, this book is not for everyone.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It's narrated by the author and he's pleasant enough to listen to and also offers great advice. It's short and sweet, and I've listened to it a few times as a way to relax a little and remember that anxiety is not going to consume me. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to have any part in that hippy dippy therapy sh*t because this is a whole other beast.

From the bottom of my heart I can only say thank you, I feel positive and ready for this since my visit to the hospital, hand on heart thought my number was up, having never had a panic attack before and shrugged off my anxiety until it literally wiped the floor with me I had no tools to deal with what was happening to me. It is early days but I feel like I can gain back some control and I've learnt about why I feel this way and what I can do to make positive changes and adapt my way of thinking rather than berating myself for being weak. I would recommend this many times over.

I am a disabled veteran with many PTSD and anxiety issues and I have read almost everything out there.... But this book was a bit different. I love the real talk and not all of the clinical jargon. This book is for the real person not some patient. It will not solve all of your problems but there is definitely some very sound advice and a few skills to add to your tool bag. Thanks doc a good read and I definitely will signup for your newsletter etc.. A solid 5 stars across the board!

An easy book to read with some good tips and explanations. But unfortunately it did not go as in depth as I would have hoped. There was hardly any new information, especially for someone whose life is so affected by anxiety. Perhaps this would be a better read for the average person to gain a better understanding of anxiety. Though, I appreciated the tone of the writing.

Grabbed up this as an audio book today while I was at work. Trying to be proactive about my anxiety. Definitely the only book on anxiety that speaks my language. Sounds like I have a friend talking to me. Not a doctor or some boring person. Lots of good info. Lots to take in. I'll be listening to this book a few times to gather more information. I will say that it took my mind off of my anxiety for a while. Can't wait until volume 2 of this series. Thanks doc duff! Cool s***!

I read this book in one sitting. It was a great read with a pleasant amount of realness and humor. i enjoyed Robert Duff broke down aspects of what anxiety does to a person and how that person can work to rise above it. I found myself nodding in agreement a lot; thinking to myself "Yes! that is totally me" and "that sounds simple enough, how have I missed that this whole time?". Finally, the letter to folks who may not understand the struggle, is like a breath of fresh air. Indeed, I got this and I will climb. Thanks.

I recently started listening to the Hardcore Self Help podcast, so I already knew I loved Duff's style but this book was more helpful than I anticipated. I have long been in a sort of denial about my need to tackle my anxiety issues, but I am trying to start fighting my douchey brain! The exercises in this book are simple and unintimidating - a really great way to ease into the anxiety battle. I've even booked my first therapy session! I'm really happy I learned about the Hardcore Self Help world.

This is great...As a 35 year experiencing anxiety again after so many years of control I felt pretty weak. This book made me remember how in control I really am. Ive read numerous self help books and this one caught my eye. It's a very short and to the point book. I think it's made more for a younger audience and people learning about anxiety. I have suffered from anxiety for the past several years and I have tried to read several self-help books and have been given books from many loved ones. I even purchased several sleep and breathing apps. I also worked with a therapist...and situation was not changing. In fact it was getting worse as each day passed. I was constantly in a state of panic. Purchasing this book was the best thing I could of done to put me on the right path to finding myself again. Duff is one of kind! So thankful for his frank and insightful book that allowed me to actually smile and laugh about what is otherwise not so pleasant issue. I truly believe I would still be where I was a month ago without this book.

My friend gave me this book for Christmas and I was immediately thankful that she took the stigma out of mental illness. I have suffered with anixety for pretty much forever, I guess, but haven't really come to turn with it until the past few years. One of the most heartbreaking things about having anxiety is that most people don't understand what I'm going through and act like I'm being dramatic or that I can just brush it off but really, I wish I was dead. The letter included in this book was really helpful and I may use it to express myself when my own words fail. The humor and honestly in this book make it totally-not-boring and ends up being extremely helpful and worthwhile. My only semi-complaint is that Robert refers to anxiety as some kind of terrible evil that you must destroy and hate. Although anxiety sucks and is one of the worst parts of me, it is part of me and if I hate it then I hate myself. All of which I'm trying not to do. Overall, the book is great at describing anxiety and not just stress or nervousness which I find too often when trying to find ways to cope with my anxiety.

This book is great because it makes you relax. It makes you realize that you are not alone in your feelings or thoughts. There is some help for the future, but it mostly reassures you that what you're feeling is normal and it is in fact anxiety. Plus, it is super easy to read.

I have a bachelors in neuroscience and I suffer from moderate depression (kicked it's ass for the most part) as well as high anxiety. After about two therapy sessions and a bit of reading, I managed to work through most of my depression over the course of a year by using some of the strategies there... With anxiety things have been different. I moved out of the US & now live in the Caribbean where there is *no* access to therapy. I've been desperately searching for a useful, succinct guide that could help me manage anxiety and I found it with this book.

This book is funny and the author comes off as likable & not condescending... He really understands what you're going through and he's able to empathize and tap into your psychology without babying you. He gives great advice with immediately visible practical value.

So many self help books are so boring/patronizing but this book wasn't. I liked the brevity here too. Instead of droning on and on with scientific knowledge, the author delineates the important stuff clearly in a way anyone can understand with or without prior education in psychology.

Right now I'm also self employed so I thought it was great that the author touched on the anxieties that self employed people feel as well (so relatable).

I really hope this author writes more on the subject. I'm immediately going to recommend this book to my boyfriend and probably anyone who I talk to in the next 48 hours. Just wow!

A rare good find when it comes to indie self help books.

Brief overview of anxiety and some cognitive behavioral tools to use. I thought this book was great in that it normalizes and challenges our thoughts, behaviors and feelings. Definitely worth reading. Side note, the author should write textbooks in this style. I would read them

Nice motivational tactics through informality but too sparse to educate on CBT theories. Still an enjoyable read. Perhaps a good follow up to something more thorough like the anxiety and phobia handbook

As a younger person this book felt less like a psych textbook and more relatable to my age group! I felt like I could relate more to the examples in this, than in any other of the many books I've read.

Read the book in one sitting, by far the best "self help" book I've read. It embraces anxiety and gave solutions rather than make you feel irrational, we already know we think irrationally. Straightforward and informative but not overwhelming whatsoever!

I really appreciated the tone of this book and the suggestions within. Ironically, I actually found myself feeling a little anxious as the book wrapped up because I wasn't ready to be done reading it!

The tips and info are useful and helpful.it really serves the purpose of helping to learn more about anxiety and the steps you need to follow to conquer it.
I will follow this guy and continue to read his books.
Finally, I really enjoyed his appendix with instructions about relaxation.

This author is so annoying. As others have stated, same old stuff about anxiety but written in a very annoying way. "I'm so pumped up for you! Your life is going to be amazing!" As if you're going to actually jump out of your seat with joy. Sorry, nothing works like that, unless it's drugs! Which is what this author must be on. All joking aside, this book is garbage.

Another sign of the times we live in as even foul mouthed fools can write a book and if they making it "shocking" enough they'll get a following even if nothing they say is worthy of attracting anyone. I mean even the premise is for fools. Your in trouble with anxiety, and your life is awful, but God FORBID you have to put in so much energy that you must actually lay on the couch and trudge through READING a whole 250 page book!!! I mean that's simply way too much effort to expect from a person in return for peace and prosperity isn't it??
No...let's just do this 75 page F**** book that makes his mothers proud I'm sure and demonstrates his lack of class. But being outrageous is the real goal and making money so those things don't enter the equation.
Sorry, but the Jerry Springer approach to life isn't for me and could never finish the copy at my neighbors house. You know...the neighbor I don't let my kids over to his house because the last thing he is, is a roll model, nor do I loan him anything because I'll never get it back.
You get what you pay for, and thank goodness I paid nothing for this junk.
