A disillusioned pastor questions his faith when Kansas is destroyed in a nuclear explosion cauased by the "superhero" Magog. He is summoned by the Spectre (DC's Angel of God's Wrath) to witness the unfolding of the events involving Superman's return after Magog killed the Joker, which led Superman into an self imposed exile.

THe story involves the return of the Justice League and a scheming Lex Luthur. It's a very good book and shows pastors in a good light. The main character, Pastor Norman McCay is very down to Earth and real. Mark Waid doesn't make him "Holier than Thou" and it's really great.

As for the artwork, it's top notch. Alex Ross is one of the best illustrators out there, he does for painting what Jim Lee does for illustrating. The pictures are so life like that you feel like you're looking at photographs and not actual paintings. All the characters look realistic and are painted wonderfully.

The story isn't a fast-paced, rock 'em sock 'em slugfest like other comics that focus on the fight scenes. This story focuses on the characters, mainly Superman and Batman. The story is grounded in character development and the fighting mainly takes place near the end of the story.

Kingdom Come is an excellent book for fans of Batman and Superman. A well told story, combined with fantastic artwork makes for an entertaining read.

With a story by the fabulous Mark Waid and incredible art by painter Alex Ross, "Kingdom Come" spins a version of the Book of Revelations as a war between metahumans. Set years in the future from today, Superman has become an exile of humanity. Batman no longer defends Gotham City himself; he uses an army of robots. Captain Marvel, Shazam, has disappeared. Green Lantern has built a huge city over the Earth, with a purpose akin to that of the Justice League's Watchtower. Wonder Woman still wanders the Earth, one of the only heroes aware of a war brewing between metahumans. Norman McCay is a priest, the P.O.V. of the story, and he is shielded to be invisible by the Spectre, who takes him on a journey to watch the war unfold. With breathtaking art and an entertaining story, Waid and Ross truly deliver with this incredible graphic novel.

Kingdom Come is a classic story of Superman's morality, in which Mark Waid tests The Last Son of Krypton's resolve time and time again. It is the type of story that bridges the gap between comic book fans old and new and provides an inner struggle worthy of such an amazing series. In addition to Waid's great storytelling, there is the unbelievable artwork of one Mr. Alex Ross. Some criticize Ross for his lifelike artwork, but this art is stunning. You still feel that it is a comic book, but at the same time, your breath is taken away by the crisp visuals. This is a great story for any comic book fan.

If you like alternative history, this is a great graphic novel for you. The artwork is wonderful and the story idea that superheroes' values have changed over time with those of society is very thought-provoking.

I'd highly recommend this one, especially for someone who maybe isn't normally into comix.

What can I say, this book is beautiful from beginning to end, every page is carefully painted to perfection. The color palate is amazing, the characters have weight behind them, and the story is fantastic, creative, and more importantly an arc that you don't see all too often done well. Pick it up, and soak in the visuals, enjoy the way the beautiful art helps to craft an unforgettable atmosphere. The story and artwork all work to create one of the best graphic novels I have ever read.

The story and artwork are fantastic as in the 'Justice' series. I do not like Superman being vulnerable to thunderclaps; doesn't he fly into nuclear explosions and whatnot without harm? I have therefore taken off a star, bringing the rating to 6 or 7 stars on a scale of five when compared to other storylines.

Still one of the greatest stories I have ever read. Seeing what could be the end of the world through the disenchanted eyes of Rev. Norman McKay fully reflects the state of comic books and the world in general. The focus is on the Trinity, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman with the rest of the JLA/JSA in support, but the part of the story I love is the bit parts played some of the C and D tier heroes. Deadman steals several ages and provides his perfect brand of comic relief during a pretty heavy scene. Mister Miracle logically becoming the model for hackers turned FBI/CIA consultants. The way former sidekicks and children of the heroes have carried the mantle makes sense, and the newly created characters leave you wanting more. It's full of iconic exchanges between the biggest heroes who are trying to make sense and restore faith in a world that has passed them by. A must read. Simply unpassable.
I own the original four issues and the collected edition. This digital version saves wear and tear on those and takes up no extra space in my bag. Alex Ross' art looks just as beautiful as in print, and with pinch-zoom I can spot some of those easter eggs a little better.

This book will be remembered as long as modern society endures. The themes are eternal, and the writing and art is solid. This is a story you will remember and share. This is what graphic novels should be.

The story is so immersive and captivating. My pop-culture professor had this book in the syllabus and for a good reason! Aside from the entertainment value of it, it also makes you think what would happen in a world where Meta humans ran rampant among us normal folk. I'm sorry but this book is just too amazing to summarize into a review, and it would defeat the purpose of digging your nose into Mark Waid's masterpiece. Please, if you're into comic books, superheroes, or alternate future stories, this book is a MUST-READ.

Alex Rosses' use of a photorealistic technique makes the illustrations look wonderful. Add to this a good storyline and you have a great read. One of the best graphic novels I've read. I would highly recommend.

Excellent. A futuristic look at the world of superheroes without limit. It has a great psicological aspect of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor and all of the DC Universe. Definitely a must have for all comic lovers.

Outstanding, art & story. I'm a old comic super heroes fan. I read all the great stories from early 60's to early 90's. (Comics went crazy then, quit, too many titles. Couldn't keep up). It ranks up with the best.
