000 Awesome Facts (About Everything!) (National Geographic Kids)

Review:We bought this for our 7 year old granddaughter. She is a good reader and very smart but does not really like to sit and read whole stories. This beautifully illustrated book is just right--find a subject and turn to that page and all kinds of interesting facts are there to read and talk about. We learn something every time we read from the book. Read more

Stories of Ingenious Inventions by Women - Girls Think of Everything
Stories of Ingenious Inventions by Women - Girls Think of Everything

Review:Bought for a 9yr old niece who is very interested in science. I love how it has the potential to teach female children that science and math are not 'boy things' and help them stay interested in these subjects. Sometimes you just need to be reminded that science is cool for girls too. Read more

40 Familiar Inventions & How They Came to Be - Mistakes That Worked
40 Familiar Inventions & How They Came to Be - Mistakes That Worked

Review:I have used this book with third graders as they learn to hypothesize. Not wanting to make mistakes, they will change their hypothesis or make it "fuzzy" enough that it is safely generalized. This book shows great examples of people who made mistakes in their "hypothesis" and profited (chocolate chip cookies!). Read more

Minecraft Redstone Handbook - Updated Edition
Minecraft Redstone Handbook - Updated Edition

Review:I ordered this for my third grader after her school book fair sold out before she could get a copy. The reading is a bit challenging for her at times, but my understanding is the Redstone building/crafting is one of the more difficult elements to work with. She is able to follow the steps with a bit of help and has enjoyed perusing this book. The binding is of a library quality and the pages are printed on a heavy weight, semi-gloss paper. The overall quality is very good. Read more
