Review:A great job of both reporting and storytelling. This was an absolutely horrible event but a thoughtful telling and analysis of it was important to do. Mr Morse did that in a completely engaging way. Couldn't put it down. Read more
Review:I have read Gary's good calories, bad calories, why we get fat, and now the case against sugar and this is my favorite so far, although I love all the ones I have read but this is a book that everyone should read, especially any nutritionists worth their salt. Read more
Review:In Trick or Treatment: The Undeniable Facts About Alternative Medicine, Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst, M.D., set out to analyze the scientific literature on acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, herbal medicine, and a host of other modalities of so-called alternative and complementary medicine. The book begins with a long, fascinating chapter about the history of medicine and the emergence of the modern, evidence-based approach to medicine--i.e., conventional, Western, or allopathic medicine. Th... Read more
Review:Thorough information on history, location, description, and uses, this book was what I had hoped to find as a resource for valuable stones. The pictures are vivid and clear, and make it relatively easy to identify a stone in hand. This book was recommended to me by a shopkeep, and I've recommended it to others. Read more
Review:In the words of one professional who rated this book with a poor rating: "Parents with a little knowledge do not compare to trained and licensed professionals who can understand all the nuances and complexities of a troubled child." As both a professional and a parent of a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder, I have to wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. No one can understand all the nuances and complexities of a troubled child better than those parents who have lived with them. Thi... Read more
Review:An average written history of the advancements in cosmology and the science behind it. To make it more accessible, there is little math so those who want a good narrative of what is going on are encouraged to read this. The author goes in depth with the personalities behind the science and the experiments and work being done.
My main gripe about this book is if you didn't understand much about dark matter and dark energy before you read this book, you won't understand much about it after ... Read more
Review:Professor Randall takes us on a journey from the outermost reaches of the universe to the unseen players of conventional and dark matter. It is a wonderfully layered work that peers into not only the elemental factors that make up our entire universe, but also the minds of the leading scientists covering a diversity of fields that helped to foster Professor Randall's work. Although we will continue to watch and see how the dark matter story plays out, this book certainly provides a very provoc... Read more
Review:What a refreshing book that poses compelling ideas about our civilization's origins and our history. Best of all, Mr. Coppens provides photo and illustrations in support of other possibilities in contrast to what most folks are taught as the official version of history and sold as the gospel truth in most every school and university.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind and would like to learn about other points of view regarding the possibilities of alternate historic... Read more
Review:The guy has such an important story, but his writing it in a novel style with characters having dialog lines detracts from the book's credibility. The interview I heard of him via Earthfiles.com was much more compelling. Read more
Review:Pretty silly book. Entertaining to those who enjoy actual taxidermy, or who think ugly things are hilarious.
Some of the so-called "crap" taxidermy showcased in this book, however, are actually expertly created works of art intentionally designed to look unusual. The cover of the book, for example, is an art piece created by the world renowned Geza Szollosi, a Hungarian artist who is also known for his inflatable, balloon-like cow faces. The difference between these and actually terrible ... Read more
