And Five Short Stories (Vintage International) - Goodbye
And Five Short Stories (Vintage International) - Goodbye

Review:The great brilliance and talent of Philip Roth announce themselves to the world in this first book. Much of what Roth would be later admired for is present in this work. A remarkable capacity for creating memorable characters, a tremendous liveliness and humor in language, a somewhat sarcastic view of American reality mixed up with a deeply romantic and idealistic one, fervent sexual interest. There is also in these works the kind of criticism of his home- team, the American Jewish family which ... Read more

Sons of Encouragement
Sons of Encouragement

Review:Awesome, awesome, awesome! These books will give you insight on what these men of the Bible might have been feeling, thinking, struggling with during their lives. These are works of fiction, however, they are based heavily on accounts given in the Bible and can deepen your understanding of the Word of God! Thank you Francine Rivers for allowing God to use you to further His kingdom! Read more

The Testament of Mary: A Novel
The Testament of Mary: A Novel

Review:Although very well written with good flow once you got to page 11 and figured out what was going on, it really didn't provide me with enlightened info re her life as the mother of Jesus. It sort of painted a picture of Jesus as arrogant and not interested in family which is not the way I have come to know Him through various Bible studies over the years. This was a book club reading suggestion so I will be very interested in how the discussion goes when we meet later this month. Read more

The History of Love
The History of Love

Review:I am sincerely surprised by the amount of positive acclaim for this book. I love a book which has different chapters written from different character's view points but this was just too confusing until the very end when it finally begun to make sense but the ending definitely left something to be desired. And after it was all said and done, I felt like I had wasted my time. Just not an interesting story - pass on this one! Read more

We Were the Lucky Ones: A Novel
We Were the Lucky Ones: A Novel

Review:I am almost finished with this book. I'm reading it slow because I don't want it to end. I love books that incorporate family history into world history. I've never read anything by this author before but I wouldn't hesitate to read any other book she ever writes. Ms. Hunter is exceptional at bringing all of the characters to life. The reader can tell that Ms. Hunter put her heart and soul into pulling together her family's history. It is by far one of the very best books that I have ever ... Read more

Babylon Rising: The Edge of Darkness
Babylon Rising: The Edge of Darkness

Review:There was no explanation for how the last chapter came about and no resolution to the story. I really enjoyed the whole series but the ending was terrible. EX: Shari, the back pack, and HOW did Murphy come back to Isis(!)? Disjointed... Read more

Review:The basic story sounded interesting but unfortunately gets bogged down in excessive character development. Writing is excellent but story is very, very slow. Interesting and surprising ending. Not recommended if you like fast paced fiction. Read more

A Novel (Liam Taggart and Catherine Lockhart) - Saving Sophie

Review:The book was so interesting, explaining about the conflict between Israel & the Palestinian people. So many of the people would like peace, but are thwarted by the terrorist faction. And the intrigue with the main character finding Sopie was exciting. Read more

Private Justice (The Newpointe 911 Series)
Private Justice (The Newpointe 911 Series)

Review:Most of the main characters were either underdeveloped or unlikeable, especially the "holier than thou" wife. The author must have done very little research if this is the way she thinks police and fire departments work. Read more

The Sequel to The Dead Don't Dance (Awakening)

Review:Charles Martin is a wonderful southern writer who truly captures the heart of his readers. Sometimes a sequel disappoints, but Maggie is beautifully written and is every bit as good as The Dead Don't Dance. Read more
