Review:This book describes over 100 elements of the periodic table from a first-person point of view, making the elements seem like they are people. Each element has a two-page spread, with one page containing information about the element and the other page showing a cartoon picture of the element. The information listed includes the element's symbol, atomic number, color, and date of discovery. Each element then describes its characteristics through a first-person narrative. A Tour of Our Solar System and Beyond (National Geographic Kids)

Review:My youngest was talking about Supernovas and asking a lot of questions. We Googled book titles about stars and his was one of the books recommend. He enjoyed the other topics this book covers. It's not like a traditional encyclopedia and not in alphabetical order so if there was something he was looking for he had to go to the table of contents. Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America
Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America

Review:My presents to my grandchildren usually involve items that have to be shared with one of their parents because I have this funny idea that interaction between them is to be encouraged. This book is going to be combined with a puzzle of the United States. By giving them to the six-year old granddaughter, then they can be passed down to the four-year old at a later date. Read more

Color & Learn Easy Spanish Phrases for Kids (Dover Little Activity Books)

Review:Just received this little book today and it is so awesome. I want to teach my little girl German phrases as she learns English phrases in hopes that she will be somewhat bilingual. I needed a refresh myself. This little book has all of the everyday phrases that I will need to start out. It does a great job at helping you pronounce the words. Great buy. Read more

How to Speak Cat: A Guide to Decoding Cat Language
How to Speak Cat: A Guide to Decoding Cat Language

Review:Good information about cat language. I surprised myself in how much I had already perceived, being a first time cat parent. I guess if you are sensitive to animals and have always had pets (dogs and very tame parakeets) then that skill just transfers over to all one's pets. It could have gone further into the communication with cats. I've already surpassed the knowledge in this book and wanted to learn more.

Great for someone that needs sensitivity training. Read more

The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets
The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets

Review:Taleb eplores of one of the least understood forces in all of our lives; mistaking luck for skill.

Here is a person with a single, but large topic, who spent his life exploring randomness vertically and horizontally, maturing it, getting into its most interesting wrinkles. The book is a feast to read and re-read. I laughed a lot while reading the book and had to think even more about Taleb's deep understanding of the philosophy of probability. He's amazingly articulated so you can see his... Read more

Lunch Money (Rise and Shine)
Lunch Money (Rise and Shine)

Review:Of all the Andrew Clements school books I've read, Lunch Money was by far the least engaging. The reason for this is that a large part of the book focuses on numbers instead of people, and where Clements has succeeded in the past is in his ability to make us really like his leading characters. Greg, the lead character in this book, is not very nice. He's largely driven by money and selfishness, and although Clements does try to make Greg more personable by depicting his change of attitude, th... Read more

Orphan Train Rider: One Boy's True Story
Orphan Train Rider: One Boy's True Story

Review:The amazing story of the Orphan Trains is usually a lost portion of American History. I've read several books about the Orphan Trains and found this man's story to be excellent. I have loaned it to several friends that were clueless about this endeavor, and they were shocked that this has remained something of a 'shameful' secret for so long. I highly recommend this book.
