My youngest was talking about Supernovas and asking a lot of questions. We Googled book titles about stars and his was one of the books recommend. He enjoyed the other topics this book covers. It's not like a traditional encyclopedia and not in alphabetical order so if there was something he was looking for he had to go to the table of contents. He is in 3rd grade.

I bought this book for my sons' home library. But I found myself reading it from beginning to end and marveling at the updates in information about space from when I was a child in the 80s. We've watched a lot of documentaries since then on space accomplishments and discovery of dark energy and the the speeding up of the expanding universe which initially I read about in this book. Pretty much this book covers a LOT of material but in a way that kids find it interesting and gain a deeper understand in a more concise format.

Honestly Photos are big bright and plentiful which was why i purchased. However it Scared my 8 year old with alien "photos" and fictitious world "photos"and scenarios. I wish we could've just stayed with facts. Sadly donating to good will. wish I knew before I purchased.

+ Very accessible, large amount of information that's well presented, incredibly detailed and colorful illustrations, wide variety of topics
My son, a 6-year-old Aspie, is a big fan of outer space. While this book is aimed more at 10-year-olds and above, he just LOVES this book. As a space nut myself, I enjoy reading it to him (when I can get it away from him). The language is very descriptive, and quite appropriate for its intended audience. While it doesn't get as technical as a book aimed at older audiences, Aguilar is able to cover some surprisingly interesting topics in an accessible manner. Not only just covering the solar system, this book also delves into the origins of the universe, the theory of dark matter, and manages to explain how, when looking at far away objects, we're basically looking backwards in time. The illustrations are vivid and detailed, and serve as perfect companions to the text.

This book states it is an encyclopedia for kids, but is an excellent resource for adults as well. It is filled with concise and interesting material, and colorful pictures and artistic drawings to accompany each subject. I highly recommend it.
