34;A Disgrace to the Profession34;

Review:Appalling that quack science is allowed to shape the economies of nations! The lack of integrity in top "peer-reviewed" journals is sobering.
Great that he could find 110 "real scientists" who "on the record" said what they really think about THE HOCKEY STICK. Read more

32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny - Life Lessons from Teaching

Review:I absolutely loved this book. I was actually pretty sad when I neared the end of it so soon. I took this book everywhere with me--to lunch, on the bus, everywhere. And where ever I was, I was laughing out loud. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys teaching. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys laughing, and appreciating the wonders that children provide.

When I read his book quoted in the last page of a magazine, I imm... Read more

Above Suspicion
Above Suspicion

Review:The author does an excellent job explaining the cultural history of Appalachian pioneers and coal-mining communities, which is critical for understanding how people's vulnerabilities collided with their circumstances to create this truly sad story. The story is well-crafted and the characters jump off the page. It was hard to put this book down, and harder still to shake the tragic ending. I can't wait for the movie! Read more

How Jay Z Went from Street Corner to Corner Office
How Jay Z Went from Street Corner to Corner Office

Review:This book was slow boring and almost painful to read. There were a few interesting points. But no real insight granted the fact that Jay-Z did not participate is a factor but fawor all the people the people the writer interviewed I just expected more. I would not suggest reading this unless your looking for a substitute for sleeping pills Read more

The CIA Conspiracy to Murder John F. Kennedy - and Their Vision for World Peace
The CIA Conspiracy to Murder John F. Kennedy - and Their Vision for World Peace

Review:I have always been intrigued by the assassination of Mary Pinchot Meyer and have followed the accounts of her assasination with great interest over the years, and find that this is the best yet. I also think that if Mr.Janney's findings are accurate we had all better keep and eye on him. Obviously Mr. Janney's motivation in writing this book was his friendship with Mary Meyer's son Michael. To think of the research that must have gone into this is mind boggling. Mary Meyer was also a philanderer... Read more

The Methods and Madness Inside Room 56 - Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire
The Methods and Madness Inside Room 56 - Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire

Review:This guy inspires fifth grade kids from immigrant families to read and perform Shakespeare. He teaches self-respect by example and actually gets kids to think responsibly.
For him, teaching is a vocation, not a job. And his public school children learn through non-traditional but effective methods.
I borrowed this book from a friend who let me keep it after I raved about it. I just bought three more copies to give to teachers I know who could use a little hope. Read more

The Snow Leopard
The Snow Leopard

Review:Read this, and read it again. The language is so precise and nuanced. It was a pleasure to read. Matthiessen recounts his journey, literally and figuratively, in the most captivating way. You will feel that you have been to Tibet, and you won't want the journey to end. So re-read it. Read more

The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History
The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History

Review:Found this almost by accident as I was looking for Sides's biography of Kit Carson. I had always wondered why it took so long to find King's killer and it is not until you read this account that you get a real idea. Sides writes in a flowing, almost novelistic style, which is a refreshing change from scholastic biographies. The research is there, it just reads better.
A chilling account, well worth the read. In a day when we are disgusted by Islamic slaughter, it is well to remember that it w... Read more

Sickened: The True Story of a Lost Childhood
Sickened: The True Story of a Lost Childhood

Review:"Sickened" is an autobiography about the victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MBP). MBP is a mental disorder in which a person (usually a mother) inflicts injury on another in order to gain attention and praise. In this case, the author's mother was the predator. It's hard to believe that anyone's childhood could be this awful. Ms. Gregory's childhood was not full of love, but of horrible abuse - such as being starved, given medicine to make her sick, subjected to rigorous and invasive me... Read more

Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life
Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life

Review:Loved this book! Loved the snippets of Italian language, the colorful descriptions of landscape and people, and the yummy-looking recipes sprinkled throughout. I've read most of it in one sitting--only had to stop to make dinner: fettuccini and pecorino. Thank you, Frances, for sharing your love, your life and your wonderful gift of writing and taking me back to Italy today. Read more
