Review:This is a great book and of course I lived through the times this author covered so I really enjoyed the
interesting background he wrote. I also read Mr. Hill's book - Mrs. Kennedy and Me - excellent. Read more
Review:This sort of thing can only happen in the US. I wish there were more places like this in the world, where people put money into your vision of the future. The story told here is just that - how an eccentric man, Clark, imagines the future and creates it through the help of the best brains in software, the VCs in Silicon Valley and of course from the investing public. The book is good to give the reader an overview of how companies and their visionary owners are creating the future. Lewis is a wr... Read more
Review:Disappointed, like the others. Not as bad as "If you Were Here", but the recycled content really was irritating. I hope she's not past her prime, I continue to enjoy her blog, and re-read the first few books and still find them funny. Come back to us, Jen!!! Read more
Review:I've looked through some of the other reviews of this book here on this website before reading the book. I was surprised by the negative comments about the author (Dr. Howard Cutler)! But, as I read further into the book, I began to understand why.
I do feel that the author did us a service by collecting the words of the Dalai Lama. The author's pointed questions provided good launch points for responses. Also, the collection of the Dalai Lama's words from his seminars in Arizona were als... Read more
Review:The very title gives the reader a clue as to how the book is written: factual, clearly stated, and pretty boring. If the reader wants to learn a little about the subject, it's okay; but, if you'd like to be entertained, either by the subject matter or the writing, forget it. Read more
Review:Didn't fully understand the meaning behind it being an mp3, although the packaging said it played like a CD. Only, it doesn't. Stuck it in my player and I hear nothing. Not their fault I guess but I wish the packaging had been a little more clear. Read more
Review:Oliver Sacks has given us a wonderful book. Since there are already close to 50 high praising reviews, there is little which I can add to these. However, while keeping this a "5 Star" book in my estimation, I shall point out some areas that it could have been better.
Sacks describes a seminal incident in his life in which he informed his farther that he is gay, and asks for this not to be disclosed to Oliver's mother.Nonetheless, the father does inform "Ma" about this, and the next morn... Read more
Review:Knowing only that this book was a classic, I purchased it for my middle school son. I read it myself upon learning that it was about a boy who died of an aggressive brain tumor, since my family is struggling with the exact illness in one of our members. I was struck by the absolute tragedy of how this brilliant child was killed by a disease targeting the very source of what made him so unique. Being familiar with the current therapies, I was also somewhat amazed to learn that there has been al... Read more
Review:James Herriot's books are my favorite, his sensitivity, his love of nature, his intelligence, his simplicity, all make for a book of a life that you feel that you yourself are living, that his experiences are yours also. I hate when I've reached the end of his books. I want to live them over and over, and keep reading them forever. Read more
