Review:Donna Leon likes to raise your political consciousness and usually succeeds. This time she lets us know that in Italy, anything is for sale; except the Venetian police - unless you are looking to get promoted. Frankly, this one is a deep yawn: we never care about the victim, even though the hero [protagonist if you are an English major] does; we don't care about the victims family; and frankly, we don't even care about the hero's enchanted family.
As a subplot, Donna Leon appears to b... Read more
Review:I have a love/hate relationship with Cat Porter—I love her, but inevitably while reading one of her books she will gut me, and then I hate her for it. CP is the queen of conflicting emotions and she outdid herself in Fury with situations that were raw and painful, yet achingly beautiful, even a sex scene was scorchingly hot, yet painfully heartbreaking. Fury got to me even more than Random and Rare, but I loved every minute I spent reading it.

Along the way, new revelations about each other and their troubling backgrounds threaten to stop them from finding the evil person who plans to take their lives. And the countdown has begun, ticking off one day after another…until death.

Review:Great sequal. The author does a great job at twisting the plot. Just when you think you know who the killer is, she throws another curveball in. Loved it. Looking forward to reading the last book in the series. Read more

Review:"Sometimes the truth is better off buried." (Back Cover)
Her Last Day by T.R. Ragan is gripping suspense that at times I find quite disturbing. With me, when that's the case, it has more to do with the psychology of pathological killers than the writing itself. There's your typical suspense, and then there's the suspense thriller that not only have you clenching your teeth, but also watching your back.
In Her Last Day, the author interconnected several cases that on the surface do... Read more
Review:Disclaimer: I like Jo Nesbo; I don't mind gruesome crime scenes; I am a woman. Now that all that is clear, I am going to warn you not to waste your time or money on this truly awful book. I bought this based on reviews in the Wall Street Journal and I am thoroughly disgusted with them. The writing is poor, the characters are wooden and unbelievable. The plot is predictable. And someone needed an editor on this doorstop! There was a lot of noise in many of the reviews about how this book r... Read more
Review:Another great book by Jeff Menapace! Definitely a page turner, couldn't put the book down until I finished it. This is pretty much how all of Jeff's books go. Can't say that all readers would enjoy such a twisted, violent, mind-bending storyline, but if you love horror this is a book for you. The only downfall is that you will reach the end, then be left wanting more. So, hurry up Jeff, we need another! Read more
Review:Apologize for being brutal, but sixth grade vocabulary and choppy writing put me in a foul mood. I was expecting fully constructed sentences with decent command of the English language, but got something I guess an airhead teenager with no education beyond video games would like. Read more
Review:Ellmore Leonard can't be beat for character development and pacing, but he's asleep at the wheel on this one. Good to see Raylan Givens in action again. He's even more confident in this book. The bad guy, Chip Ganz, wasn't completely believable, but his no good sidekicks were. Lots of cross/double cross action. I'm ambiguous about the psychic character (which is probably how the author meant her to be). Read more
