Another great book by Jeff Menapace! Definitely a page turner, couldn't put the book down until I finished it. This is pretty much how all of Jeff's books go. Can't say that all readers would enjoy such a twisted, violent, mind-bending storyline, but if you love horror this is a book for you. The only downfall is that you will reach the end, then be left wanting more. So, hurry up Jeff, we need another!

I bought this book this morning and I finished it tonight! It was one of those "I need to put it down and do something else..,. but I cant..." type books! If you have never read Menapace then you're in for an absolute wild ride - if you have read him, then you know this book will be his usual writing, with a definite shocker at the end!!!!!

I first learned of Jeff Menapace by choosing "Bad Games" for my Prime selection. I loved the book and immediately downloaded the next 2 books in the series, then ordered the Omnibus for the bonus material and ordered HOTB on release day. If you enjoy the horror genre and are not squeamish you will love these books! I have stayed up far too late some nights not wanting to stop reading!
Die By the Drop: Shivers and Sins Volume 1 :: DARE :: Mother and Son: The Respect Effect :: Absolutely gripping crime fiction with unputdownable mystery and suspense (Detective Josie Quinn) (Volume 3) :: The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories

I've read everything Jeff has published up till now...and this one doesn't disappoint. Once you get hooked (and it won't take long) you'll be compelled to keep reading until the end. Five stars in my opinion. Can't wait for his next offering.

Manapace certainly can grab you by the throat & refuse to let go. Horror isn't really my thing but I'm glad I didn't pass this one by. The author's graphic descriptions of carnage & hopelessness were effective, I felt several times that I needed a shower after finishing a chapter. I gave this book 4 stars out of 5 simply because horror isn't my favorite genre but Mr. Manapace's writing ability is a force to be reckoned with.

I love to read psychological thrillers, but usually figure out the normal twists. Not the case with Hair of the Bitch. I did not see this ending coming, and I loved every minute of it! Great job Mr. Menapace, hope you are working on the sequel!

After reading this author's work called Wildlife, which was a great story, I thought I had found another Stephen King,,,hooray! So I decided to read this book....about a third of the way through, I almost quit, it was so boring and yet twisted....but since I almost always try to finish a novel, I plodded forward....wish I hadn't. Things only got more violent, sicker & more twisted. This is one of the darkest, most sickening tales I've ever read. The main character is a complete sicko alcoholic with very few redeeming qualities, so much so that this reader didn't even CARE what happened to him. After the ending, I was really angry at myself for wasting the time to finish the book...and even angrier for thinking this author was anything like my favorite, Stephen King. Shame on me....will not read anything else by this author....trust me, don't waste your time.

I downloaded this book without properly checking it out beforehand, as I was on my way out the door and needed a quick read to take along. Expected your basic serial killer type thriller, a bit low quality due to the price.
Oops.
The average ten year old has better writing skills than the author of this book. He's no writer.
The plot was as bad, or worse. I managed about 40 pages before I reached my capacity for garbage.. No thanks. Though I fully realize there's an audience for this kind of deviant gore snuff porno, it only left me feeling a need for a shower. My mistake.

Calvin Court is a massage therapist with a few secrets. He battles depression. He medicates with too much booze...and he's got the hots for one of his clients.

Good thing is, the feeling is mutual.

Bad thing is, in order to get the girl, Calvin will have to submerge himself into an underground industry of such depravity his already dark mind won't even know where to begin.

Maybe he's just better off at the bar.

From Jeff Menapace, author of the acclaimed Bad Games trilogy, comes Hair of the B*tch, a dark and disturbing new thriller with tongue firmly planted in cheek...until it's ripped out.

I really didn't know what to expect with this story, and it definitely didn't disappoint!! Very graphic violence, but there are also some funny points to the story.

I personally don't think if most people had been in Calvin's situation they would have done what he did, but it was an unexpected enjoyable read with a few twists.

Jeff manages to grab the reader and refuses to let go. This "Crazy Mouse" ride touches on just about every possible human emotion and leaves this reader shaking her head and saying "Oh no....that really sucks." This novel takes one from interest to disgust to fear to questioning to thinking...."Dude.. what the he'll are you doing"? Definite unexpected ending. BUT.....the fear in knowing the crux of this book actually exists is what keeps me shaking my head back and forth in astonishment. As usual, Jeff Menapace has succeeded in taking the reader on a Class Five River in a very small raft that goes to some of life's more unbelievable, distasteful and frightening places. If you begin reading this novel in the evening.....prepare to be up all night!!!

I just finished reading this book 30 seconds ago and I had to review it right away.

If you are not of "weak constitution" and your moral flexibility allows for you to be highly entertained by dark subject matter, I recommend this book highly. It's told from a first person point of view and in a writing style that I enjoyed because it feels like you're part of a conversation with the author...kind of a "You are NOT going to believe the effed up s&%t that happened, pull up a chair," way of telling a story. Maybe it's my narcissistic side that also writes in this manner that's giving you this review, but whatever the case, I purchased this and was optimistic that it would, at the very least, entertain me and it surpassed my expectations. I will be purchasing another one of his as soon as I hit submit on this review.

This writing by Jeff Menapace could rival Stephen King at his best. The protagonist od "Numb" has had the worst week you could poasibly imagine, now times that by 100. And the ending is brilliant. If you're a fan of the horror genre, you won't want to pass this one by.

Another GREAT book by Jeff Menapace! I am so glad I found his books, they are very dark and twisted, but what can I say I like to be creeped out!!! I am not going to say anything about the book, I hate it when people spoil the book for you. But I will say I might actual have a slight crush on Calvin...lol Now off to read, well actually listen to Side Effects.

Excellent thriller of a book. This reminded me a lot of Bryan Smith (Depraved, Slowly We Rot, etc.) and his crime stories. The main difference was the main character's introspective nature. We get a feeling for his thoughts and worries as the story progresses. Admittedly, this did slow down the story a bit for me, but it does work here. Of course, the story was topped off with a hell of an ending. Recommended.

it may seem a curious way to headline this review, "Oh my god…" , for such an "unholy" work of art, but it's the only convincing way I can come up with to convey how truly marvelous this book is.
This totally original work of art was a joy to read. I am hooked for life.
Bravo!

Several months ago I read my first Jeff Menapace book. I have been hooked ever since and Numb did not disappoint. Twisted characters, never quite being able to figure out what will happen next, and a steady need for more. Definitely dark, and I am on to the next!
