Management & Leadership
Review:PEAKS AND VALLEYS
by Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson, billed as "The king of parables" by USA TODAY, has
long been one of my favorite authors . . . his ONE MINUTE MANAGER,
co-authored with Ken Blanchard, helped revolutionize my thinking about
management, and his ONE MINUTE FATHER helped me become
a better parent.
His latest, PEAKS AND VALLEYS, is the story of a young man
who lives unhappily in a valley until he meets an old man
who lives on a peak . . . this en... Read more
Review:Although this book was required for my intro MBA class, I would highly recommend this as a casual read for those business people who want to improve their organizations. Senge's concepts change your way of thinking, and make you look at the world a little different. Plus it was extremely affordable at only $17. I will read this book again. And probably again. Review:Daniel Pink does a fantastic job describing the qualities needed to be successful in the conceptual age that we are currently in. Ironically, Pink uses many analytics to justify active exercise of right-brain senses to accompany typical left-brain dominance. Get ready to realize what you don't know! Read more
Review:Amy shares her vulnerability and the steps she took to overcome tremendous challenges in her life. As I read through many of the things on the list I find myself nodding my head over and over as I can identify so closely with much of what she says.
The book includes tips and ideas for overcoming habits that might be holding you back. I was honored to interview Amy on our podcast and find her very authentic and passionate about her work. Read more
Review:This book is exactly what a memoir should be. Solzhenitsyn puts you right in the center of the action, with scenes so vividly sketched that I had nightmares I was in the Gulag myself. This is a good book for any of your friends or loved ones who have recently become enamored with Marxism. It's definitely the "Scared Straight" of the prose world. Read more
Review:Disclosures: I do not know Mr. Kelly; I have no financial stake in this book; I did buy it from Amazon. The Inevitable is not really inevitable, but is a great discussion of 12 technology trends that Mr. Kelly has identified. Exactly how those will play out remains to be seen. I give the author credit for mentioning some of the downsides of these trends that have shown up in headlines recently. The book was published in 2016; probably written in 2015. So it's not too out of date. I gua... Read more
Review:Palmieri’s message is loud and clear. It’s time.
I watched Jennifer Palmieri on Rachel Maddow Show last night and decided I need to hear what she had to say. She was up close and personal and in a position to be perhaps a little more forward looking and perhaps less blame placing.
Her message is loud and clear. It’s time.
Women and children need to lead the way. Read more
Review:An easy and inspiring read. Jon's thoughtful humor throughout the book not only made the book enjoyable, but helped to drive home so many lessons along the way. If you've started...and started...and started, but struggle with actually finishing, then this book is exactly what you're needing. If nothing else, you'll finish this book which will only help to motivate you to finish your other goals you've been putting off. Honestly, this book is a MUST READ for anyone. Read more
Review:This book is just "OK" by me. Interesting but nothing of exceptional value if you use your head a bit. These thoughts in the book are only things that we don't think about so it is a good reminder. Read more
Review:This book provides good insight into how one can better their business education without going into lots of debt to get a MBA. It also has lots of sound business knowledge/concepts that can help you grow and learn. Yes, you won't get a certificate even if you finish all the books on the reading list (currently it's at 99) but you'll be more educated so this is something each of us has to consider. I enjoy the flexibility of reading at my own pace and not taking on more student loans. For me, it'... Read more
