Teaching children to be kind to each other. - Harry The Happy Mouse
Teaching children to be kind to each other. - Harry The Happy Mouse

Review:Read this short beautifully done morality tale to our two and a half year old grandson and he loved it. He couldn't follow the story completely yet, but he understood the playful rhythm of the words, and the sensitive rendition of the small animals. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely ourselves. This is a book I believe our grandson will enjoy growing into, progressing from spotting small details in the images, to enjoying the story itself. This review is for the Kindle digital edition, which sho... Read more

Twelve (The Winnie Years)
Twelve (The Winnie Years)

Review:The book details inappropriate explicit sexual references that kids below 8th Grade should not read. Topics such as boys enjoying voyeurism, imagining a boy's erection, thongs, tampoons, etc. are definitely something that a parent should explain differently rather than graphic perspectives from a peer. These are not the values that we should impart to our youth. Read more

Book 2 - The Song of the Quarkbeast - The Chronicles of Kazam
Book 2 - The Song of the Quarkbeast - The Chronicles of Kazam

Review:Not long ago, Jennifer Strange brought magic back to the world... which apparently doesn't earn you a break from your job.

And after the bittersweet note of "The Last Dragonslayer," Jasper Fforde's second Chronicles of Kazam novel is a bit lighter on its feet. "The Song of the Quarkbeast" still has some darker edges, but it's a nimbler, slightly more frenetic fantasy story -- and the multiple subplots show Fforde off in an entertaining manner. It also makes you quite happy that there is n... Read more

The Eye of Zoltar (The Chronicles of Kazam)
The Eye of Zoltar (The Chronicles of Kazam)

Review:I have been listening to audio books during my daily commute. And I stumbled on Jasper Fforde‘s Chronicles of Kazam series at the local library. I started with The Last Dragonslayer and next came The Song of the Quarkbeast. The third book, The Eye of Zoltar, turned out to be another fun listen on the daily commute.

Once again, Jennifer Strange is a good central character and the crew at Kazam Mystical Arts Management returns as well (although mostly backstage with the prominent exceptio... Read more

Pout-Pout Fish (A Pout-Pout Fish Mini Adventure)
Pout-Pout Fish (A Pout-Pout Fish Mini Adventure)

Review:I absolutely love Deborah's first book, "The Pout Pout Fish" and my son and I read it together all the time. I was excited to expand our collection with another book but was disappointed in this one. The original book is so creative with it's rhyming but this one is short and very matter-of-fact. I don't think I would have purchased it if I had seen it in a bookstore. He does love fish so he will look at it occasionally. Read more

The Red Badge of Courage (Scribner Illustrated Classic Series)
The Red Badge of Courage (Scribner Illustrated Classic Series)

Review:Everyone should read this story. In fact, many of us are required to in school. It's a great, accessible story told by a narrator you really root for. This edition is nice, with a few of those typos common to scanned books. It isn't abridged, which is key. Read more

Kung-Fu Cavemen From the Future (Captain Underpants)
Kung-Fu Cavemen From the Future (Captain Underpants)

Review:I'm not surprised with the positive reviews—this is an entertaining book and my son read it five times in a row.

But when I read a few pages, I was dismayed to find intentional misspellings on nearly every page. The author apparently felt to approximate caveman spelling, he would switch phonetically similar sounding letters (like "s" and "c"), so you get evidense, theries, importent, forchenately, exampel, epalog, welcum, waterfal, villege, etc. For those of us who can distinguish between...
