Review:Rooms: A Novel uses a death and a funeral to bring together a small family, full of of mistrust and disappointment, and a haunted house. The ghosts in the house are vague, tied to the house and each other for reasons that are not quite clear. The people--a mother, her adult daughter, adolescent son, and young granddaughter, are full of longing for things they can't have, things they are missing, and things they've unknowingly lost.
The four have come home to an isolated house that they ... Read more
Review:I personally avoided this book during my younger days, being strictly hetero sexual myself. However, at a much older age,I can appreciate the beauty of the writing. I found myself fully immersed and read it in one reading. I believe I gained understanding through my reading. I do regret not having read it at an earlier age. Sexual preferences aside, this is a jewel for one who can appreciate true literature and deeply emotional depiction of love and of self-discovery. Do yourself a treat a... Read more
Review:This was a very enjoyable short story. A young lady learned at few truths about her family's past that most of the living family members had forgotten or never knew. She learned the cold hard fact that life is not fair. Read more
Review:You all know what I thought of Kristin Harmel's The Life Intended (just in case you inadvertently missed it(!), you can go to my post from February 3 and read all about it). Now along comes Kristin's latest, The Room on Rue Amelie. She completely shifts gears from contemporary fiction to historical fiction. And, might I add, she does it seamlessly. I happen to be a big fan of historical fiction, especially that which centers on WWII. I have learned a bunch of history this way. And I would ... Read more
Review:I'm a bit confused. But let me start with I think this is definitely better than Ashley Bell, back to the" Koontz" I love reading. I was intrigued from the beginning, the storyline drawing me in... but..... the chapter beginnings were not always easy flowing. Some drag on sentences, although I'm not an English teacher.... but I can get past all of this to a 4 star review but then the book ended, without closure... I'm left completely perplexed, what happened after this? I'm left shaking my head... Read more
Review:Very dated material. If this story was based in China, might be more plausible. The population bomb is placed squarely at the feet of Christian Religion. China and India are not largely Christian, and the population in both places is overwhelming the systems. Kind of makes me wonder if the global warming folks should stop feeding the beast ( countries that have lax regulations ) and support American and European businesses that have been regulated to the point of extinction. If you buy TV's... Read more
Review:Boring and trite, this book was so full of cliches I could have used it as a teaching moment on what not to do when writing a novel. The females? Beautiful and spirited .... The males? Handsome, charming, kind .... It's hard to believe it took three women to write this. Read more
Review:I actually bought this book for my mom. I read this book in English and immediately fell in love. I honestly could not put it down and it got to the point where I was reading it at work and getting frustrated when customers would ask me for help and prevent me from reading more, haha! I thought my mom might enjoy the story as well but didn't want to make it 'homework' by giving her my English copy so I bought her the Spanish version so that she would read for pleasure. She loves it and finished ... Read more
Review:I gave it 5 stars because I loved the book, the people become real people and you want the story to go on. I read it in less than a day because I couldn't put it down. I love the authors way of bringing each character to life and making you feel like you know them. I've read all of her Nashville series and anxiously waiting for #9, she's a great author and will definitely read more of her books. Read more
Review:Such a good read. I loved Callum--the kind of man anyone would be lucky to have. Lilah's character was great. I appreciated that Kelly made her strong and independent--though I found her to be a bit stuck up (but still very well done.) The banter between the two characters was captivating--from their first meeting, I fell in love with their conversation and was hooked. The book is well-written and sweet, though some of the scenes went on a little longer than they should have--in my opinion. I de... Read more
