Education Theory
Review:An amazing short read, but very powerful and full of insight to what is most missing in our society today. Kudos to George Saunders, I hope many people will have the opportunity to read and share their experience with this book. Read more

Review:Had to get this book for an ethnic studies class.... figured I'd learn something new, but didn't. While Beals' journal entries are the highlight of the book, she does little to shed new light on the civil rights experiences of her lifetime. While not a bad book by any means, it is also not a great book as it was really hard to finish this book. Had I bought it as a casual read, I might not have made it the whole way, but since it was required, it wasn't half bad, I have had to read a lot wors... Read more
Review:Odd Girl Out is an extremely thorough treatise on girls using relationship as a weapon against other girls and the lasting impact it can have on them. The author not only interviews numerous girls (3rd - 8th grade students), but also tells the stories of many women who experienced the painful situation of being a victim from a former best friend. The author is able to vividly capture the pain that resulted in many women stating years later that they trust men more than women because women can ... Read more

Review:This book describes over 100 elements of the periodic table from a first-person point of view, making the elements seem like they are people. Each element has a two-page spread, with one page containing information about the element and the other page showing a cartoon picture of the element. The information listed includes the element's symbol, atomic number, color, and date of discovery. Each element then describes its characteristics through a first-person narrative. A glossary and index ... Read more
Review:Anyone interested in the discussion about education gaps, school performance, etc. should read this book. Tough presents many ideas, supported by both research and practical environments, that show how to address many of the commonly perceived problems in K-12 education. Not only is it informative, it's a good read. I've purchased copies for a couple of friends. Read more
Review:Well researched content. Providing real life examples made a world of difference and made it closer to home since I have my own who will be entering middle and high in the next few years. Scares me at the same time helps me look at the right place for solution to this most important crises of our times in my opinion. Read more
Review:i really loved this book. I was especially glad of the Scriptural references to the things the author stated. I had lost my own dog 3 years ago to old age and sickness and was so happy to be reassured that I will be seeing him again. In reading this book, I felt like I really knew the author and could identify with the grief he felt at the loss of his pet. This is a great book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves dogs (or any other pets for that matter). Read more
Review:This book, Phonics Pathways started out with "acknowledgements". It then had a lengthy introduction. Then the reader journeys through "About Phonics Pathways". Then there was a discourse on "Getting Started". Then it had an article, "About Dewey". All of that before delivering anything informative about phonics. It did offer some good tools for teaching phonics after 12 pages of "stuff'. The tools it provided is the only reason my score for this book isn't lower. Read more
