Spies & Politics
Review:Another Silva masterpiece. To use an overused expression, this book really was very hard to put down. I had to work some at keeping the Arab names straight but read the book so quickly that it never became a problem. Read more
Review:The greatest positive about this book is that it moves...and moves well. The greatest negative is its blood and gore. That is problem for me, and I understand that. Characters were well drawn, although I did get mixed a lot with the two Isrealis.
I also read "The English Girl" and liked it better. Think I will take a rest from Silva! Read more
Review:One of the best in the Gabriel Allon series. Highlights the problems the Jewish people had in several areas during and after WW2 along with a plot that is rivoting. For some reason this was the last of the series that I read. Perhaps saving the best for last!!! Read more
Review:I think an abridged version would be better as there were different events where it dragged because of too much detail. "She put her left foot down, then her right foot. She paused and looked around. Then she moved another step." Read more
Review:I’d received a copy of this book via Netgalley and promptly forgot about it due to school and other obligations. I started, and finished, it today. This is an amazing story with so many twists and turns. Faith is a fantastic character and the story is told at just the right pace. I recommend this book 110%, you will not be disappointed! Review:A bit more rough language than what I am comfortable with but the good story line and local flavor kept me reading. Reluctant however,to recommend to others. The Life We Bury is still my favorite from this author. Read more
Review:"Full Assault Mode" further develops the Kolt Raynor character, and provides more details on the life and job of a Delta operator. Also fleshed out is the character of Cindy Bird, and the concept of women in special operations units, something that is very interesting and not well know. I enjoy most the look inside the inner workings/tactics/personalities of the Tier 1 units. Fury also does a good job at displaying the mindset and ideology of the jihadist terrorist. Read more
Review:The Mars trilogy established Kim Stanley Robinson as one of the more thoughtful writers on the politics of the near future. Eschewing melodrama for rigorous detail that makes his tale all the more convincing, Robinson uses the everyday drama of science policy wonkery as the anchor against which to set the outrageous consequences of climate change. Although short on out-and-out action, it is long on sensitive characterization, making you care about what will happen in the next two instalments -- ... Read more
Review:A good deal of this relatively short book held my interest for the scenery and mood presented by the author. When looking at a couple of his other books, I see that presenting a realistic atmosphere of World War II Europe is this writer's gimmick. He is quite good at it, and there are certainly worse schemes in vogue by various popular writers.
I rate this book low, but not because it is so slow moving. I have enjoyed other books with a deliberate pace. My problem with the book is that the pl... Read more
Review:Brad Thor books for me are always interesting and easy read. Easy read is a compliment! I always look forward to reading the book and can't wait to see how it unfolds. Scot Harvath is a character that you are rooting for to succeed. You know that he will but you like seeing the process and his interactions with all the other characters.
Very enjoyable!!! Read more
