268 Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution
268 Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution

Review:I know Ann Louise professionally, and I know that she is usually at the leading edge of health information. She sent me an advance copy of ZAPPED, and it's a book that I suspect some people would prefer to not know about. Is ignorance bliss? I don't think so.

Well-written and informative, ZAPPED focuses on the electronic pollution in our world and its health consequences. Before you scratch your head and wonder what I'm talking about, consider the fact that all sorts of microwaves and oth... Read more

The Natural History of Innovation - Where Good Ideas Come From
The Natural History of Innovation - Where Good Ideas Come From

Review:Both thought provoking and interesting. I think the ideas in this book are very well presented and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It provides perspective to how ideas evolve into things of greatness and how the environments that support these ideas are both a part of nature and also man-made environments. Being able to recognise these aspects of an environment, or lack of is an eye-opener.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend this book. I say, Thank you, to the author for his work in this ar... Read more

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology

Review:While Mr. Whitman and associates may be experts in the HVAC field, they obviously are not effective textbook authors for a beginning HVAC course. The book is cumbersome, somewhat confusing, and very hard to follow. The end of chapter questions are more than difficult to answer based on the information given in the chapter. Little emphasis is put on "important" points and ideas. In some cases, throughout the book, a subject is mentioned with little or no detail follow-up, and in other instanc... Read more

Six Innovations that Made the Modern World - How We Got to Now

Review:Another deep-thinking look at the world that, like "Freakonomics" and "Outliers," make you see familiar parts of your life from a new angle, with a new and (hopefully) improved perspective. My high school students have loved all three books. Read more

Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean
Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean

Review:Reading "Last Train to Paradise" was a delight. Well researched and well written, I found the book to be both informative and a pleasure to read. My wife also read it and agrees with this assessment.

Henry Flagler's Florida undertakings are reasonably well known, but they are all the more amazing when one considers that they were the product of second career. The reader will be surprised to learn of the man's first and also highly productive first career. Read more

Networking All-in-One For Dummies
Networking All-in-One For Dummies

Review:I purchased this book because I wanted to learn how to set up a VPN network on windows or Linux. I did not find this information. Instead, half of the book teaches very basic windows network features like connecting to a lan or to WiFi or sharing files over the Network and the other half is very elaborate stuff about TCP/IP which I found interesting but it wasn't explained thoroughly enough for me to understand, it was covering fundamentals too quickly such as subnets, zones etc.
Don't get me... Read more
