Short Stories & Anthologies
Review:Too much info for a short story....not enough opportunity to develop characters & I felt the ending was disconnected from the rest ok the story. I am a K S fan but will not read any more of her short stories. Read more
Review:The author did not disappoint me. The first volume was excellent and so was this one. She has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are in the story with the people she is writing about. I can't wait for volume 3. Read more
Review:This is a cautionary tale about that people often lose time in vain. Stephen King as always brilliantly managed to show the essence of the human soul. Each character portrayed individually, but a special place in this story takes Mr. Toomey. We can say that he did not have a childhood. He was raised by a tyrannical father, he later achieved considerable success in their careers, but always felt unhappy man. But he was afraid to go against the wishes of his father, even when his father died, Mr. ... Read more
Review:Close Range is a collection of eleven short stories from the short fiction master, Annie Proulx. As usual for Proulx, and as the title suggests, we get stories of people toughing it out in Wyoming, farming, bull riding, surviving. Proulx is adept at short fiction because she can paint characters and plot with quick brush strokes. But where she really shines is with her unique descriptions of landscape. I would recommend Lora Leigh, Shayla B... Read more
Review:A well written and interesting book. Many words I looked up as they are not used too often in todays books.
The South was not as easy place to grow-up and make something of ones self. TW brings a reality to the reader. Read more
Review:OVERALL REVIEW:
Excellent anthology, all of the stories - many of them admirably varied in their sense of horrors - have something to recommend them. This is one of my all-time favorite story anthologies.
STANDOUT STORIES:
1.) "Jerusalem's Lot": An evil, haunted town repeatedly draws members of a cursed family into its Lovecraftian clutches over centuries. This is a loosely linked prequel to the novel 'Salem's Lot.
2.) "Graveyard Shift": A Fourth of July cleaning... Read more
Review:I am generally speaking not a fan of short stories. But I am a big fan of C J Box and his writing. This hit on all cylinders. Thanks for your great skill with the written word. Bottom line I am a big admirer of your work and skill. Read more
Review:More for completists than someone just starting out reading Heyer. Every story had a familiar ring and was enjoyable but not up there with her best work. Still, to come across any of her Regency writing that I hadn't seen before was a real treat. Read more
