Short Stories & Anthologies
Review:I bought this as a gift for my husband, who has read and enjoyed some of Gaiman's other work (e.g., American Gods). This book of short stories was a departure from what he had previously read, but he liked it so much he read it all in an afternoon. If you are familiar with Gaiman and enjoy his writing style, this book will not disappoint. Recommended. Read more
Review:I haven't read this author's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, [book:The Sympathizer|23168277], so I was glad to have the opportunity to read this short volume of stories to get a feel for his writing and now I will for sure read it. The author immediately with captivating writing invites you to meet not just the characters in the present, but we learn about their pasts as well . We meet the ghosts, their families, the culture, the country of of their birth - Vietnam , and inevitably the undercurre... Read more
Review:Sherman Alexie fearlessly confronts the problems faced by the Native Americans of Spokane, Washington. With his sense of hilarity and deep berevity, Alexie points to such problems as alcoholism, broken families, drug abuse, poverty, loss of culture, loss of community, and loss of pride. While it may appear as though Alexies' musings are all "fun-and-games," it will not be difficult for the reader to discern that there is something deeply troubling about most of the characters in Alexies' writing... Review:The compilation of new and previously published short stories shows Sherman Alexie at his best: contemporary, traditional, and unique. Whether humorous or sorrowful, in the city or on the reservation, Alexie's narratives resonate with humanity, warmth and wit. Read more
Review:I bought this book after watching an episode of SourceFed. They compared it to many other great books that I enjoy, so I felt that I must read this one too.
The story itself is really great. It is a thought-provoking classic.
This book in particular is meant to be used by middle or high school students. It seemed to me to be very good at guiding its reader, if that was what you were looking for.
However, at almost 4 dollars, the 20 pages of story are not worth it. I would tr... Read more

Review:Stories were good for children, though a little graphic in parts. I expected Ali Baba and agencies, and was disappointed. The foreword explained how this was an original version and that older versions did not include these stories. However, I enjoyed most of them and got a small taste of old Arabic/Oriental culture. Do read if you're curious.... Read more

Review:As with all the Kevin Hearne novels, I downloaded this one from audible. However, this time I promptly returned it. I will have to find the actual book now because for whatever reason, Luke Daniels is not the narrator for this book. When your used to a specific narrator, it just doesn't work when they change the person readers are used to listening to. I love Kevin Hearne. He is an excellent story teller. While I am sure this story is on par with the others I don't understand why they didn't get... Read more
Review:This is a promising start to a new comtempory series. We have the requisite hot tattooed gentlemen but with lots of great twists. He is kind. He took care of his dying mother and his just returned from war brother. He is not a bad boy and while not a virgin by a long stretch he isn't a man ho and does not treat women like objects until he meets the one. Best of all, he puts his life on hold so the heroine can achieve her dreams. I give you, Jace, awesome hero.
The heroine is smart and fu... Read more
