Babylon's Ashes (The Expanse)
Babylon's Ashes (The Expanse)

Review:Babylon's Ashes really grew on me. Like the rest of the Expanse (as individual books, and as a series, and as a TV series), Babylon's Ashes is slow to start but picks up a lot of momentum. It is, on the one hand, super dismal. For, like economics values of "dismal." The economic landscape of the solar system being what it is, people are motivated to do terrible things to each other.

That's part of the mastery of the writers. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franc ("James S.A. Corey") adeptly show us... Read more

The Churn: An Expanse Novella (The Expanse)

Review:Great short story that really added a lot of depth to Amos. If you've read any of the books in the Expanse series than this is a must. Explains a lot as to his personality and how he interprets the world around him. Read more

Abaddon's Gate (The Expanse)
Abaddon's Gate (The Expanse)

Review:Unlike other series, this third book kept the space opera stamina on the same level of the previous books. The continuing plot was the strong point, with characters new to the story not as deftly developed. The three books comprise a pretty good space opera, and a fourth installment for the series would be certainly welcome. Read more

Nemesis Games (The Expanse)
Nemesis Games (The Expanse)

Review:This is the last book in this series that I'm going to buy or read. If you didn't know, these are being turned in a TV series, a fact which is completely obvious to any reader, since every chapter ends on a shocking revelation or similar thing, perfect for a commercial break. Dear "Mr. Corey": I bought the book - I'm not about to change the channel! Most authors eventually learn how to move on from this cheesy writing style, but this series holds on to it for dear life like an old sitcom. You ge... Read more

The Butterfly Forest (Sean O'Brien Book 3)

Review:Great characters, fast paced and action packed. Fun to read a novel set in Florida with many places familiar to me. This is my first Tom Lowe's novel and I look forward to more (new ones and when his others come to ebooks!) Read more

Thieving Forest
Thieving Forest

Review:I didn't think I would like this book at all. Several times I put it down thinking I would just delete it, because it seemed dark and hopeless. The characters were in deep poverty and times were so hard; however, I soon discovered that I was becoming fascinated by this book. I've never read anything like "Thieving Forest" and I read everyday. I am interested in various stories, but this book covers a longer period of time than most. It is suspenseful in that you can't imagine how it will po... Read more

Source of Magic (Xanth)

Review:I have been reading the Xanth novels for only a short while, and though they are for young adults, I love them. There is a pun on every page and the adventure is non-stop. I was very happy to find the book at such a reasonable price. Read more

Split Infinity (Apprentice Adept Book 1)
Split Infinity (Apprentice Adept Book 1)

Review:This idea that Piers Anthony gives is great. Two worlds - one magic and one technological - is brilliant. The moment a friend told me about it, I went out and grabbed it. The book was also well written. I just couldn't stand the multiple-page long monologues Stile gives frequently. It seemed that every chapter Stile was giving some speech or another about morality or about how great he was at one thing or another. That's another thing that's not so great. I like having a hero who is r... Read more

Castle Roogna (The Magic of Xanth, No. 3)

Review:I started reading the Xanth series from Piers Anthony in seventh grade and frankly I hated reading but you know... if you want to pass you have to get major things done like BOOK REPORTS!!! yeah... I went to the library and this book caught my eye... i looked at the thing inside that tells what order the books go in but the first two books weren't there... so i got this one and i read till my eyes were about to burst. I STRONGLY recomend ANYTHING from this author especially the Xanth Series. gre... Read more
