Review:This is the BEST book there is for learning about DB design from the ground up. It moves very quickly from theory to how to practically implement a robust DB design. It assumes no knowledge, but by the end of the book you WILL be able to sit in discussions with MIS and understand and contribute to the discussion. I don't want to leave the impression, however, that this skips the hard topics: far from it. It covers Business Rules and even has some excellent forms that you can copy from the bo... Read more
Review:[A review of the Second Edition 2007, the review being written on 27 Oct 2007.]
From the ground up, the authors teach SQL. Not just the syntax, but more broadly, how to design a set of tables that will describe your data, and then how create and populate these tables.
If you already know some SQL, you may be curious as to which version is described. The up to date nature of this 2007 Edition means that you're getting a good current description. Though in practise, given the slow p... Read more
Review:_The Cuckoo's Egg_ has everything most fictional detective novels wish that they had: a personable detective who does not mean to get involved as deeply as he does, federal agencies who cannot seem to take action, and a criminal mastermind who has everybody stumped until he encounters our detective. The best part of this whole book is that it really happened-- a feat that fictional mysteries can never match.
I knew Stoll's work through the more technical article "Stalking the Wily Hacker"... Read more
Review:This is indeed an excellent book. I would surely recommend this book to anybody needing insights into different hacking methods. I am a graduate student in computer science and I don't think there are too many books on this subject out there that are better than this one. Read more
Review:Why do they put directions for Windows first? Forgive me for not reading all the way through the tutorials before I start but my goodness. What a frustrating read. The tutorials are rather straightforward once you get through the directions for Windows 95-Windows 8, Linux and Commodore 64. Read more
Review:I downloaded this Kindle book but was unable to open. I was instructed to remove this item from my device... but no way to download again. I am very dissapointed that I can not get this book!!! How do I get this book downloaded? Read more
Review:As someone who has dabbled in many programming languages, I was looking more for a guided tour of the Python language than an intro to programming that happened to use Python, and Python Crash Course was just what I was looking for. I especially appreciated the section on code testing, which is almost never covered in beginner books and should be. The author has also taken the time to cover the two versions of Python you might find in the wild, and also provide instructions for Windows, Linux an... Read more
Review:I love this method of learning to code, because you feel that what you learn in small increments through reading the short chapters and then completing the exercises stays with you. I bought all his books and am having great fun exploring the beginner stages of coding. Read more
Review:Provides all tools, material, exercises for detailed and thorough understanding. Additional supplements like his video and slides are lengthy but worth the time. Very hard, to not complete exercise with his walkthrough and reference material. Read more
Review:Pretty good book. It is very complete and accurate. It explains all the details of how each feature of the language works at a sufficiently low level. But it reads more like a reference book than a book to learn the main features of python. It's a large book so it might not be worth reading it straight through, but a good book to have if you're learning python or need a reference book. Read more
