This isn't a book for beginners. The authors style is to throw code at the reader and then try to explain it. Programming concepts are ignored. Object oriented programming and the python libraries are also ignored, and this is the heart of python. There are better books than this and better ways to learn the language; start with the free tutorial at the python web site. You can learn a little from this book but there are other, better ways to do it.

This book was profoundly disappointing. Although it lives up to its claim to being a true beginners book, I have found far better resources for free online. For example, this free online book/course - [...] - is far, far, far better than Cannon's book (I have no affiliation whatsoever with the interactivepython.org website). I felt that Cannon largely just spat out different facts about the Python language, but didn't make much of an attempt to teach his readers how to think like a computer scientist. The authors of the online book I mention do a much better job of this - of all the beginner resources I have read, the interactivepython.org is by far the best. It is designed for true beginners and allows you to practice what you are learning right from the web browser. Cannon's book was a very dry read, whereas the online book I mention is entertaining. Save yourself some money and skip this book. It's by no means awful ...just kind of blah. I'm utterly baffled by how many five star reviews it has.

I downloaded a version of python for my Kindle, and I already had another version on my MacBook, but I wasn't able to get either of them to actually 'work' ??? I could enter one line and it would execute immediately, but I couldn't figure out how to load more than that one line at a time ??? I tried several approaches and looked through all the menus and looked thorough the book, and two other books that I bought, and I still couldn't get past this totally crazy and bizarre bottle neck !!! What is even crazier, I have tried getting started on several other programming languages, and they all have this same weird problem, with the two exceptions of Scatch and Chipmunk BASIC, but both of these are internally limited to prevent me from actually writing the kinds of programs I'd like to write !!! What ever happened to all the genuinely easy to use languages that existed in the 1980s ??? ( !!! )

Although computer programming is not my cup of Tea, my recent work asks me to learn the Python!.
I am glad I came across this book from Jason Cannon. It gives me exactly what I needed for getting started with the language.
The fundamentals of Python is made easy, in which at first I thought was so difficult. The Author really did his best to illustrate
the step by step instructions and preparations for running the Program successfully. The Variables, Stages, Number, Math and Comments
triggered excitement in learning. Since each chapter is interestingly explained, it was irresistible to
read more and more Chapter after Chapter. All in one, I definitely would recommend this book for Beginners like me! Have Fun in learning!

This book is ABSOLUTELY for the novice or beginner. If you have programming experience, you may find the approach annoyingly simplistic. I have always tried to get into python programming but get fed up quickly with long, school-like textbooks that just end up frustrating me! “Jason Cannon” has created a fantastic book that explains the basics in an easy to read and understand way. I truly love this book because it gave me the opportunity to learn programming and introduce new concepts and with examples I can practice well.

There are a few things which I like to focus on in my reviews. Firstly, the quality of the product. This book is pretty good quality. It is well formatted, and I was able to find no clear grammatical or spelling errors. I found it a quick and easy guide for python programmers to learn python programming and include all the basic python, data structures, operators, control statements, functions, classes, and strings etc. which are used in python. The explanations of programming terms are clear and the examples are very good practical and help me in programming skill. It has tons of information for those who are new to Python, and I would recommend it before any of the free Python resources that are available online, which barely have any level of depth.

This is a very good introduction to the Python Programming Language. It's a straightforward, no nonsense, no frills instructional with good exercises to practice the points it teaches. I took this book through the store prime and I've quickly picked up the basics of Python and I've done so much faster than it took me to learn Perl. Whether you are new to coding or a seasoned programmer, this is a good book to get you started on the Python path.

I love this author Jason Cannon, he is an amazing author, always can bring us new things and let us learn more.

And for this book, it is about Python Programming Language. It is quite easy for us to understand the content, especially for the beginners who knew nothing about this. This bring the beginners more courage and confidence to learn the Python programming language well.

So I am always waiting for Jason Cannon's book, currently this is the 5th book I have purchased on programming in Python, I love Jason, and love this book.

I had no prior knowledge regarding Python, but after I read this book my understanding for Python has greatly improved.
This book gives a step by step approach regarding the program. You will surely understand the program more in no time. It is easy to read as well and very informative.

This is the 5th book I have purchased on programming in Python, so many books over complicate descriptions and rely allot on you just copying code from the book rather then learning what the code does.

This book is fantastic!, it truly does start from the ground up explaining every detail of Python, simple to understand and allot of coding for you right from the start.

I hope Jason continues to write his books because I am going to buy more.

Prior to reading this book, I knew nothing about Python Programming, and I mean nothing! But I had a job interview for a new position that required some web development and using the Python system. Which meant, I had to learn how to learn everything about the Python programming system as I possibly could, and as quickly as possible! Without this book, there is no way I could have learned the Python Programming, as quickly as I did. If you're needing to learn this program, then this book is a must have!

This book makes starting from scratch simple. It isn't daunting to sit down and work through the book. Actually, it's very rewarding! I'm very happy with this book and hope to see more from this author.

Python is one of the most popular languages on the programming world. As an all purpose language, it is used for a great variety of projects.

This books is a very comprehensive work with straightforward explanations of the basics of python. It helps a lot in learning Python at a good pace and by following an approach that is very intuitive and logical.

As someone who had programmed in other languages before, I believe any novice programme would benefit a lot from reading and understanding the contents of this book, as is has explanations for situations that are very common in programming, and that sometimes put the programmer in a position where he really doesn't have a clear view of the solution.
In essence, this a very good book for the novice python programmer.

I checked out maybe half a dozen library books on coding for beginners. Some of the titles are along the lines of Coding for Teenagers or “...for Kids”. I have absolutely no background in coding.

Of all the books I looked at in person and online, this one appears to be the best for coding idiots like myself. A couple of chapters in and I’ve not been frustrated yet by any assumptions on the author’s part.

Just finished the first chapter and I am finding this very helpful. The format is easy to follow and it is set up to remember what you learn by providing some practice problems at the end of the chapter, much appreciated.
