Mystery
Review:This is my first Elizabeth George murder mystery and though it dates from 1989, it reads very here and now. She does an excellent job creating unique characters, each with a special quirk or two. The story has lots of twists without getting overly confusing and she didn't try and tie everything up in a perfect bow at the end. One still feels satisfied, however, with the conclusion. Read more
Review:This novel was very different from any other of Ms. George's Inspector Lynley novels. The first-person psychological writings of Gideon were most unusual and not at all the style normally found in her other novels. Read more
Review:Elizabeth George is highly regarded as a writer of the psychological crime fiction. This book, featuring the aristocratically proletarian Inspector Lynley certainly offers a lot of psychological insights into most of the characters. And while these insights are delightfully dexterous, it's not always clear how these contribute to the crime plot itself.
The crime itself is a fairly standard one in British crime writing: a weekend party at the family estate, invitation to a village play (to... Read more
Review:As usual, one of my all time favorite authors has come shining through. The ongoing development of the characters I know and love is very satisfying. Elizabeth, DON'T stop writing!

Review:I was eagerly anticipating finding out what happened to Inspector Lynley after the tragic death of his wife, Helen. Elizabeth George brings him back into police work with a plot that twists and turns and keeps the reader guessing "who done it" all the way. With her usual artistry, George draws each character with depth and consistency, allowing the reader a look into the psyche and motivations of the individual. So when Lynley finds the body of a cliff climber and is forced by the local detec... Read more
Review:An excellent book, and also TV movie. It's great reading the Lynley series after having watched them on PBS. And I have the entire Lynley Series on DVD. One of the best mysteries series that everyone should read and watch! Read more
Review:Fun to read, engaging, and I could almost taste the croissants! The story unfolded nicely, it wasn't obvious who the killer was and there were some twists and turns. It left me wanting to more about all of the townspeople and especially Molly and how her gite works out. I look forward to reading more of the series. Read more
Review:This is the second time reading this book & it is excellent. I love John Sandford's books & will continue to read the Prey books for the second time. Lucas got hurt a couple of times in this story & he doesn't take that well. He is so funny & brave & silly sometimes. Weather is usually a pain. She is much too bossy & dumb. I wish he wasn't married or was married to someone else. I guess it takes someone as hard & opinionated to handle him - I would believe that... Read more
Review:Typical Sandford action, by which I mean it is exciting, etc. However, this book revolved around a sadomasochistic killer and I personally found some of the descriptive passages hard to take. A decent representative of the genre nonetheless. Read more
Review:I am reading my way through the John Sandford Prey series and they are very good books. I would say that David Baldacci and others are better but Sandford is still a great writer, it is a great series and great writing. Read more
