Job Hunting & Careers
Review:Thankful for the timeliness and kindness of the book. Timeliness, because I'm at a cross roads in my professional life, and its content brings about hope and alternative. Kindness because of the tone and thoughtful research behind its message. I'm in my 40's and recently quit my corporate job, feeling burnout and so tired. I know what I don't want, but can't define what I would like to invest my skills in. The process is less daunting and more thoughtful as I navigate the book. Very glad Jeff... Read more
Review:Todd Henry's first book was Accidental Creative: How to Be Brilliant at a Moment's Notice, which examined the creative process and provides strategies to maximize your creativity while maintaining healthy work habits.
In Die Empty, Todd helps individuals and companies stop deferring their most important work. The book provides a process and principles for tapping into your passion -- at first, that may sound like several other books on the market, but this incorporates Todd's uber-valuabl... Read more
Review:Taking the strengthsfinder inventory is fun. I learned some things about myself. You have to be honest when you answer the questions, so if you don't know yourself or have a false self-concept, the results are invalid though--that's a drawback for any self-report instrument. It would be better if you could take the test yourself and then have your spouse/partner and/or a close friend to complete it as well, responding to the questions with you in mind---then you could compare the results and ... Review:Ms. Sandberg is an accomplished person, do doubt. I read 40-50 books per year, and was attracted to this work because I have four daughters, three of which are out of school and working in professions. I very much want them to be successful. The first five CDs are verbatim to "Lean-in" which is largely a B-M-C manifesto on how the world is wrong for women . . . in other words, no "solutions orientation." I expected WAY more from someone with Sandberg's capabilities. Likewise, she cites Glor... Read more
Review:This book is truly amazing. It is filled with knowledge on the female brain. Not only does it encourage you that confidence is not a one size fits all, you either have it or you don't, it shows you small ways to slowly gain confidence. I recommend this book to anyone, especially if you're a woman. You will not regret it. Read more
Review:I bought this book after seeing Keith speak. This book made me look at things in different light. I have been able to tailor the model to fit an organization & the benefits have been amazing!!! I highly recommend it for both business and personal enlightenment. Read more
Review:If you are willing to put yourself out there, like this guy wants you to, I can see it working quite well. I think the real secret to success is work, regardless of how you go about it. I did find lots of his tips helpful, especially the chapter on health, wealth, and children.
The one annoying thing about Keith is that he regards himself in such high esteem. In one instance he calls himself a super-connector. I think we can come to that conclusion ourselves without being told! Read more
Review:It seems this book was written as a compilation from different sources. It is not coherent and very high level. Personally I found it useless and not worth the cost. After I bought it, I went through it in about half an hour and then put it aside.
The overall message is common wisdom that we have heard, practiced or read before. There is nothing new or intriguing.
It seems everyone is getting, these days, into the habit of putting together books that are superficial just to create... Read more
Review:This gentleman was simply amazing! Everything he exuded was pure intelligence and I've rarely ever found another self help success book that is hard to put down.
The power of the mind is so incredible that sometimes things seem impossible or improbable but if manifested of pure intent in the mind then the results are there! Changes and transformations have come about in my life, just because of a slight shift in thinking and then a disciplined effort to keep on with that new frame of thou... Read more
Review:In another of his amazing books, Godin implores folks to create "art." He defines art not as painting, etc, but in being unique, meaningful and indispensable in whatever industry you work in. A great read! Read more
