A Novel (Winternight Trilogy) - The Bear and the Nightingale
A Novel (Winternight Trilogy) - The Bear and the Nightingale

Review:I’m not a huge fan of fairytale retellings so this one was a gamble for me. Vasya was a relatable main character but by the end I found myself so distant from the story I didn’t care like I wanted too. Over all I enjoyed the story and finished it rather quickly but I don’t think I’ll pick up the sequel. The world is beautifully written but I hate the cold so I never would actually want to visit. Maybe I’d have enjoyed it more in spring... Read more

The Troop
The Troop

Review:There were some good graphic descriptions of horror in the book. Otherwise, I didn't care much for it or the language, which I'm sure would be more appealing to teenagers. There is also a small part about torturing an animal and I see no need in fiction to write details about that at all. I just didn't care much for the book, even though the story line had such promise. Had the characters been more average or and kind and innocent, I think it might have appealed to me. Read more

Detective Grant Abduction Mysteries - Snatched Super Boxset
Detective Grant Abduction Mysteries - Snatched Super Boxset

Review:I thoroughly enjoyed reading this box set by Mr. Hunt - Snatched. The transitioning between the different stories was smooth and done in an unusual way kinda backwards. The characters are interesting and seem to get along exceptionally well though they are completely different individuals. I look forward to reading additional stories by this author. Read more

The Crossing: Book 2 of The Border Trilogy
The Crossing: Book 2 of The Border Trilogy

Review:THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THE ENGROSSING ONES THAT I HAVE READ LATELY. I FELT LIKE I WAS LIVING THE HARDSHIPS WITH THE BOY AND THE WOLF. BUT WHEN THE WOLF WAS KILLED, I CRIED AND FELT LIKE THE BOOK WAS ENDED FOR ME. BUT WHEN I READ THE SECOND PART, IT STILL WAS A SAD BOOK. WHILE I WAS VERY SAD ABOUT THE BOOK, I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ANYONE WHO REALLY GETS REALLY INVOLVED IN WHAT THEY ARE READING. Read more

Do Not Become Alarmed
Do Not Become Alarmed

Review:This novel started out slowly and the writing seemed stilted---however, it picked up steam and told a long story of people connected by a tragedy. The ending leaves the reader wondering what happened to all these people. Read more

2666: A Novel
2666: A Novel

Review:finishing 2666 leaves you both glad its over and wanting more. Bolano's final work is a true capstone; worthy of the praise heaped on it and yet still imperfect, flawed in some ways that almost make the book better. But I get ahead of myself.

The book is divided into 5 sections; each one orbits around parts of the story. Santa Teresa, and to a lesser degree, the enigmatic author Archimboldi for the center of the mass.

The first book, "The Part About the Critics", is, by far, the "h... Read more

A Collection of Gripping Paranormal Mysteries - The Girl with The Gift

Review:I read 5 to 7 books a week- I am an addict, But I am a fussy addict- I will put down a book the second it bores me or insults my intedlligence or is "just like" some other writer (unless it has its own tone and makes its own promises AND THIS BOOK PROMISES AND DELIVERS: suspence, mysteries galore; the fine FINE arts of communicating in well chosen words, the kind of desire to KNOW that makes me read ALL night and interfers with my meals and, at the end makes my whisper "thank you" and think "mo... When We Were Orphans
When We Were Orphans

Review:I love Ishiguro's `The Remains Of the Day' and am fascinated by China and Chinese history, so this book should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, I just couldn't seem to get into it. This might have been because of my own inability to empathise with Christopher, the central character. Having said that, as you would expect from Ishiguro, the book is beautifully written. The attitudes and expressions of characters come across as historically accurate (contrary to the current trend where h... Read more

Dark Notes
Dark Notes

Review:When I heard Pam Godwin was writing a student/teacher book, I jumped for joy. I love forbidden love stories and I love this author so I was fairly certain this would be a win for me. Every Pam Godwin book I read, I’m shocked by the beauty in her words and the stunning stories she writes. I’ve come to the conclusion that by now I should just be used to it. This is the fifth book I’ve read by this author and all of them have been fantastic 5-star reads. Friends- if you haven’t read this author you... Read more

The Haunting of Rachel Harroway Boxset - A Gripping Paranormal Mystery
The Haunting of Rachel Harroway Boxset - A Gripping Paranormal Mystery

Review:Too many adjectives to describe mundane things, which detracts from story. Too many conflicting descriptions that made me want to edit the story i.e., Tires "screeching" on black ice, (not possible on ice), an abyss, but filled with snow capped trees...I really wanted to like the books, but maybe it is just me. Read a sample for yourself. Read more
