Of Human Bondage

Review:I have been an admirer of Mr. Maugham since my high school years. He influenced in me at that early age to better understand humanity. His easy prose made more enjoyable its reading discovering for me other parts of the world with its mysteries and crude realities. Read more

I Don't Know How She Does It
I Don't Know How She Does It

Review:When you are asked to name your favorite movies, do you fib and say, "Schindler's List," or "Sophie's Choice," because it makes you sound sophisticated and thoughtful? Are your TRUE favorite movies "Animal House" and "Airplane?" If so, even though you may not admit it to others, THIS will be one of your favorite books. I so loved the book and so saw myself and my friends in it that I gave a copy for the holidays to virtually EVERY professional woman/mother/friend I have. The book sucked me ... Read more

Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon

Review:I thought this book was amazing. The author gives you a lot of random information during the beginning half of the novel, but once

you have reached towards the end of the book all of this information falls into place. I loved the ending. It was terrific. The last sentence of the novel even somes up the whole book, and really connects to the very beginning of the novel. I loved this book so much that if I was introduced to it out of my english class

I would still have read it. Read more

Summer House with Swimming Pool
Summer House with Swimming Pool

Review:Compulsive reading, all the more praiseworthy because the narrator is such a creepy, nasty piece of work. But that realisation doesn't hit you immediately, it grows with an alarming sense of disquiet as his voice, seemingly so reasonable, becomes more and more poisonous. Of course, some of the other guests at the villa aren't people you'd want to spend any time with either. In real life, that is. But this is Literature Land, and things are different there! Read more

Review:I finally finished this book, but just couldn't ever really get into it! The female characters were too similar to keep straight. I like that it changed perspectives each chapter, but ultimately pretty predictable. Read more

Change of Heart: A Novel (Wsp Readers Club)
Change of Heart: A Novel (Wsp Readers Club)

Review:This is a very thought provoking story on many levels. The characters were interesting. I loved Maggie; Michael was complex as was June; Shay an enigma -- I just couldn't figure out who or what he really was even to the very end. Perhaps the author wanted to leave the reader guessing. I also found myself asking what I would have done were I in June's situation. I think in the end she made the right choice. All in all it was a good read. Read more

Joshua's Island (James Madison Series Book 1)
Joshua's Island (James Madison Series Book 1)

Review:Joshua's Island was a truly heartwarming story about the harsh realities of bullying and the young love that triumphed over it. The author does an incredible job of bringing the characters to life and you immediately sympathize with poor scrawny Joshua who has been tormented for years in middle school by the villainous bullies and the Dragon Queen. Thank goodness for the appearance of Eve into his life which little by little brings him out of his shell and back to the once happy kid he used to b... Read more
