The Duchess: A Novel
The Duchess: A Novel

Review:I was disappointed in this book, Weiting simplistic and not fully deeloped. Charactersvwere 2 dimensional and jumped from 1 scene to another. The love interest of the main characterbseemed more like a brother sister relationship. Not worth the money. Wait till it comes down in price and then buy it if you want to read it. Read more

A Lexicon and Companion to the Complete Seafaring Tales of Patrick O'Brian
A Lexicon and Companion to the Complete Seafaring Tales of Patrick O'Brian

Review:This useful book is an indespensible compliment to the "Master & Commander" series. So many places like "Isle de France" are not found on modern maps, and details of 1805 Port Mahon in Minorca are necessary to understand the actions there which are thinly disguised accounts of actual events.

I also recommend "Harbors and High Seas" by this author and "Lobscouse and Spotted Dog" by Anne Chotzinoff Grossman and Lisa Grossman Thomas. Aubry eats as much as fights. Now you can imagine (an... Read more

Bianca: The Silk Merchant's Daughters
Bianca: The Silk Merchant's Daughters

Review:Even though the history was extensive and fascinating, I did not enjoy this book. It definitely doesn't fall into any of the traditional romance novel traps. However, I did not find it to be an endearing or charming love story. It wasn't to my personal taste. I found it difficult to become involved with the lead characters. I won't be purchasing another book by this author. Read more

I will start this review off by saying that I am a huge fan of Bertrice Small, albeit a recent one. I first read a Dangerous Love back in 2010 and have been stuck since. Bertrice's books are memorable to say the least.

Orianna Pietro D'Angelo carefully plotted each of her daughter's lives, especially their marriages. The wife a Milanese silk merchant only wanted the best of marriages for her beautiful of... Read more

Review:After reading the first in this series, I was highly doubtful about this next book. As a long time reader of Bertrice Small's, I poo pipes the reviews, and dove into it with great relish, only to feel the lack of that special spark that is unique to the author. I even went so far as to go to her website and ask if there were ghost writers using her name. Bertrice Small herself answered my query, and in a very polite, even kindly reply, she said no ghost writers were ever used, and invited me to ... Read more

I'm Judging You: The Do-Better Manual

Review:This book was an awesome journey. It made me think and it made me laugh. Reading this book was like hearing me and my friends talk when we're around each other. It flowed. There was never a point where I wanted to stop reading. Luvvie's side-eye is refreshing and necessary. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs to think and laugh at the same time. Well done. Read more

Modern Classics Orwell in Spain (Penguin Modern Classics)
Modern Classics Orwell in Spain (Penguin Modern Classics)

Review:Written based upon his real-life experience as a scullery worker in a Paris hotel and a tramp in London, George Orwell's recounting of the stories of the impecunious stands alone in its authenticity of the content and veritability of the experiences The substantiality of poverty was boredom and inconvenience, according to Orwell because poverty freed people from standard s of ordinary behaviors. Nevertheless, this book is not a book of socialist manifesto that urges the impecunious to revolt ag... Read more
