Review:Bone People is a deeply moving, difficult and disturbing book. Keri Hulme manages to find a langauge which does justice to it's subject matter, the New Zealand landscape and Maori culture from which it draws inspiration. Anyone expecting a literal politically correct narative is likely to be disapointed. However if your willing to immerse yourself in it, it is an immensely rewarding read.
Wouldn't normally comment on other reviews, but i couldn't let this one go.

Review:Fine, psihologic, very well documented. And it's not easy to justify a vampire in a sci-fi first contact. I also liked the way the author lists at the end all sources used and gives more background to it's characters. Read more
Review:Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat is a novel about a young Haitian girl who is summoned from her comfortable, if impoverished, life living with her aunt (Tante Atie) and grandmother Ife in Haiti to live with her mother in New York City. I found the book to be rather boring and told in a matter-of-fact style. I am sure it will appeal to people from Haiti or who have an interest in that country, qualities that I do not possess. The young girl, Sophie, is summoned by her mother, Martine, to ... Read more
Review:Romance Down Under: New Zealand Romance Starter Set is by Tracey Alvarez. The book is cute and easy to read. The characters and plot are realistic and is something you can see if you visit the islands.
Piper Harland was proud of the job she did. She was on the Police National Dive Squad and spent her time recovering bodies. This wasn’t her first one but it was the first who resembled Ryan Westlake, her first love. She knew she hadn’t done as well as expected; but she didn’t expect the di... Read more
Review:Again, another title most people who have seen the movie instead of reading the novel first. I must admit the Disney version is a classic in and of itself but the book is so much better as is the case with most books made into movies. It is great read and should be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Read more
Review:A unique plot twist at the beginning of this story keeps things moving. I enjoy the Rebekka Franck series and find them an easy but enjoyable read. They are dark and twisted at times and this one was no exception. Read more
Review:I am writing this review after rereading these books and the very first review. The author writes amazing characters that I can relate too and dreamy men I long for. She sucks you in on the first page and you can't put it down until the last page. Just read this book Read more
Review:St.-Exupery led a life full of adventure and danger, and he chronicles it in an engaging way. And all the adventures and descriptions of people and things give rise to philosophizing or musing on life and the human condition. Wonderfully well-written to judge by the translation. Very glad to have read this book.

Review:Like most of the other English speakers who've heard about this in recent years, I looked this up because it was said to be one of the inspirations behind George RR Martin's Game of Thrones series (yes I know the book series is officially called A Song of Ice and Fire, but seriously...) But the Accursed Kings series is really good and well worth reading in its own right if you like gory and sensational historical fiction. And if like me you aren't from Europe, you can learn a fair bit of Europea... Read more
Review:I guess you can at least say it unashamedly reveals where he is at : At the end of great career as a writer and running out of gas. I am very glad this man wrote the Alchemist and I am sure he has many more very good reads. There are glimpses of greatness here & there in this one but overall it feels forced. Read more
