Usage errors horse/hoarse lay/lie, word choice (medieval feel is destroyed by modern colloquialisms), a plot with holes (the kingdom is in danger but you send warriors off to deadly training for months)--all of these are distracting. Review:Whilst I like this genre I sometimes have difficulty liking the characters. Unfortunately the main character still annoys me but I am finding qualities I like. It took time to " get into the novel" but found by the end that I was invested enough to go straight onto the next instalment. Author is imaginative and writes well.
