Read more
Review:I cannot fully articulate how perfect this little book is. A wonderful story much larger and more important than its small binding implies. I will recommend this book for years to come. Don't let this pass you by. Read more

Review:Evocative and chilling, this novella looks at Lovecraftian horror through the lens of race relations. (Equally terrifying) It's an examination of Lovecraft's well known racism while still being a frightening horror story. One of the best things I've read in a while. Read more
Review:If you have not read Lovecraft before then it may be hard to get into the language. No one speaks in the manner of the narrators of his stories or books anymore and sometimes, that's a shame. Sometimes, though, the flowery language hinders the stories and makes what should be a scary descent into madness a tedious grind through language. Overall, though, Lovecraft is an important literary figure and pretty much created the super weird dear god I can't fathom what that thing was that went bump... Read more
Review:This book like the preceding books in the series is full of action, complex characters, and more questions. Hamilton avoids taking the easy way out of situations and provides a strong heroine filled with internal turmoil doing her best among the monsters as she questions her own humanity as well as what makes a monster. Review:Spend an hour in the bookstore with this book but don't buy it. Read the 1st 4 chapters and the last 4 chapters. The rest is bodice-ripper gothic romance. The entire book takes place in 24 hours. SYNOPSIS: Anita and Jean-Claude have ardeur sex with Augustine, Master of Chicago, and Anita *might* be pregnant by...? Everyone's powers are enhanced - some are clarified, most are not. There are a LOT of storylines left open at the end of almost 500 pages of sex: Samuel & Anita; Anita & ... Read more
Review:My next read will definitely be this author's first novel. I was so impressed with not only how well written this story is, but also with how Mr. Galacar brought his characters to life. He wove a frightening tale of unpredictable suspense which I had difficulty putting aside even for a moment until I reached the end. Read more
Review:Strange Weather, the latest offering from Joe Hill, is four books in one! Collected here are four novellas, united by the theme of weather (sometimes strongly, other times more subtly), with the stories running the gamut of apocalyptic rain to raging wildfires.
Hill hits the ground running with Snapshot, an eerie little coming-of-age tale revolving around a supernatural Polaroid camera. I was worried at first that this would be Hill riffing again on his father, Stephen King, who wrote his... Read more
Review:I was really impressed with this book. I thought the author did a great job conveying the anarchy that would take over shortly after an environmental crisis. It does seem like a plausible phenomenon but I felt that it was a little weird that everyone knew what was happening right away. In reality, I'd expect it to take a little longer to sink in. I really liked the characters. Maybe it's just the 'girl' in me but I would have liked a more descriptive transition from friendship to romance. I thin... Read more
