Review:This book contained some fascinating insights into the art of writing fiction, but frankly, I thought it was written very poorly(!). I did not flow at all and read much like some of the worst textbooks I've seen. He obviously has read a wide variety of books, but he assumes the reader is familiar with them.
I think this may be a good book for English majors or experienced writers, but not for young writers. For us young and inexperienced writers, he talks above our heads.

Review:Laughing Without an Accent is every bit as good as Funny in Farsi, her first book, with insights into the cultural differences faced by Mrs. Dumas.
This book was also read by friends and family and all loved it! Read more
Review:Believe it was Andre Gide who said we shouldn’t dismiss the novel of ideas because no one does it well - implying that he did. Well, I admire both THE COUNTERFEITERS and LAFCADIO’S ADVENTURES but for their art not their ideas, whatever they may be. For me THE STRANGER works because it contains only one idea, which convincingly obliterates all other ideas. But beyond Camus the novel of ideas holds little interest for me. Especially since the shelf life for most ideas is so short. So I avoided thi... Read more
Review:Somewhat disappointed in the book as it is mostly fast foods, frozen foods instead of fresh or home prepared meals. However I can find most of what I need, just takes a lot of time weeding through all the fast food info. Probably a good book for some. Read more

Review:I was an evangelical Christian from age 15 to age 30. Just this year, my views and beliefs have been drastically changing, and though I've chosen to not label myself any longer, I would fit into the Deist category quite well. A Deist is essentially what Thomas Jefferson, and several of the most famous founders of the US, were (not Theists, as fundamentalist Christians would have everyone believe).
Jesus of Nazareth is the man who lived 2000 years ago, who taught revolutionary spiritual tr... Read more
Review:Our five-year-old daughter LOVES this book!!! It doesn't have SO much information that she feels overwhelmed...but has enough to keep her interested ~ and learn fun facts about some really awesome and awesomely-cute animals :) I think it's a nice jumping-off point to introducing a more serious, more reading-intensive animal book/encyclopedia when reading skills are more mature. You really can't beat National Geo for unique, in-your-face pics! Read more
Review:Anyone who has inquisitive kids knows how much they like to ask "Why" at a certain age. This book is a good tool to have for those kids or for anyone who wants to encourage healthy curiosity in kids. A good approximate age for kids who would like this book might be anywhere from age 4 on up, in my opinion. Read more
Review:This would be an excellent Spanish teaching book, except for one thing. It doesn't tell you exactly how to pronounce the words. If I wasn't already familiar with the Spanish language, having grown up in an Hispanic neighborhood, I'd probably be saying a lot of the words wrong. Other than that, it's a very good book. Just be sure you order some Spanish CDs and/or speak Spanish with native speakers as often as possible. Read more
